hey pastor steve waldron hope you're doing great in jesus we're going to look today at this is a replica of the king james 16 11 and this is the first edition of the whole bible replica obviously of the geneva bible which the king james was to take the place of the geneva if you go to the hampton court conference where the idea for a king james came from it was king james says i don't like the geneva basically because the geneva had notes in it that says to the effect that disobedience to tyrants is obedience to god it may not use that phrase but it is in there but today what i'm just going to take a look on the inside of both so you can kind of see how maybe lettering change from 15 60 to 16 11 and then i'm also going to make mention as well of the 1611 king james and this is not ideal what i'm doing here and i appreciate brother mallory zooming in on this that a lot of people especially like hendrickson or nelson will come out with a small size uh king james reproduction and people are like you can't even read that well first of all it's in gothic print not roman print so what you're having a problem reading is the gothic print gone way down from size secondly i've done a review it's actually believe it or not one of the most popular videos on the channel on what a real 1611 look like i've got a replica i got really inexpensively the thing is huge it weighs over 30 pounds it's much bigger than this bible and this bible is going to be close to a foot tall it is uh it's like 11 inch i've done a review on this replica as well but so the first thing i just want you to see kind of what the inside look like of both of them and then secondly we're going to compare five different scriptures and see how the translations differ as well of course the geneva bible done by people for the most part fleeing bloody mary fleeing bloody mary and um and so they were in geneva switzerland and you had people like john fox of fox's book of martyrs it just uh and many others there doing that so we're first of all we're going to go to psalm 23. i did want to make mention that you know like a lot of times the f will look like an s and all this or the s will look like an f more accurately and like the j will be in the form of an i and a lot of people will say c the j sound did not exist before six you know whenever it is and that's just not true they would say the j sound it just doesn't look like a modern j like judges to us looks like ayages and so then they would say well jesus is the name of a false god it's hey zeus it's the name of zeus the the pig and all this and it's like no you really don't understand english too well and anyhow so psalm 23 we'll just read a little bit of it the lord is my shepherd i shall not want he maketh me to rest in green pasture and leadeth me by the still waters he restoreth my soul he leadeth me on the paths of righteousness for his namesake always like you know name is capitalized as it is in the king james a lot too yea though i should walk through the valley of the shadow of death i will fear no evil thou art with me thy rod and thy staff they come from me very similar to the king james very just a couple words difference the lord is my shepherd i shall not walk this gothic print is difficult to read and when you shrink it way down it's nearly impossible but don't let anybody fool you saying see the king james ancient english not no it's just god because the next year or two 16 12 16 13 when they begin to come out with an enrollment type print it's very readable uh he maketh me to lie down in green pastures he leadeth me beside the still waters he restoreth my soul he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his namesake name is not capitalized here yea though i walk through the valley of the shadow of death i will fear no evil for thou art with me thy rod and i staff that cover me now one advantage the king james had as you had and in starting with tyndale an incredible history of the english bible by the greatest linguist ever and you had them overall and you had them in the you know almost 100 years perfecting and winnowing this and so their goal was a perfect bible according to themselves a bible not to be justly accepted against which is their way of saying a perfect bible because the catholics obviously were taking every english bible which was the bishops bible which is what the king james is based on and supposed to be a revision of but then they they gave a lot of leeway to say but you can use whatever whatever the truth is that's what we want so matthew and that's another misrepresentation of people who don't believe the king james is a really good translation um matthew 28 we're going to start at verse 18 and go forward matthew 28 18 and just see how they compare and see i know this is just a very small uh look but it's really all we can do on a video without just taking a series and just doing a lot there okay so and jesus came this is the geneva bible and spake unto them saying all power is given unto me in heaven and in earth go therefore and teach teach as an e on the ends kind of all nations baptizing them in the name name capitalized of the father and of the son and of the holy ghost holy is not capitalized so it really lets you see that name is referring to jesus they didn't consider the holy ghost maybe a separate person teaching them to observe all things whatsoever i've commanded you and lo i am with you alway until uh the end of the world amen all right so and jesus came and spake unto them saying all powers given unto me in heaven and in earth go ye therefore and teach all nations baptizing them in the name capitalized of the father and of the son and the holy ghost teaching them to observe all things whatsoever i have commanded you along with you alway even unto the end of the world amen so you know one thing you can say about the king james is a very good economy of language economy of language so let's go to acts 238 of course in calvin's geneva just about three years before they had markered michael servidus that oneness believer and so that has always been a stain on john calvin so we'll start with the king james in this one then peter sent to them repent be baptized every one of you in the name of jesus christ for their mission of sins and you shall receive the gift of the holy ghost holy is not capitalized okay let's see acts 2 38 in the geneva bible then peter said in them amend your lives notice instead of repent amend your lives that is a dramatic interpretation of repent amend your lives but it may it's extremely accurate believe it or not because people today repent to most people just like yeah i think jesus is god that's right okay amend your lives and be baptized every one of you in the name of jesus christ for the remission of sins and you shall receive the gift of the holy ghost all right let's go to colossians 2 9 colossians 2 9 and see what the differences are there we may go to some around that as well colossians 2 9 the geneva bible what an incredible thing i mean people still use the geneva bible today as their bible and it used to be said that was the bible of the pilgrims but then they realized the captain i think it was of the mayflower brought his king james bible over and so the last i had read there was five bibles on the mayflower three were genevas two or king james i think that's what it was maybe it was 4 and 1. but anyhow colossians 2 and 9 will start in the geneva bible colossians 2 9 for in him dwelleth all the fullness of the godhead bodily for in him dwelleth all the fullness of the godhead bodily so they got that right they caught that let's see what first john 5 7 says let's see if it's even included in the geneva bible let's see if they thought textually critically it should be included first john 5 7. i do want to make mention to both of them have the apocrypha for various reasons in there as well for there are three which bear record in heaven the father the word and the holy ghost and these three are one i'm gonna guess yes the king james is gonna read very similar to that this is gonna be the fifth scripture something's telling me i probably should do more but let's go here first uh john 5 7 i used to wonder my mom licked her fingers now i know for there are three which bear record in heaven the father word the holy ghost and these three are one all right so what i'm going to do now is i'm going to just let you take a quick look again i've done video on both these as far as reviews i'm in the apocrypha we'll just let you see what it looks like and then i will do the same for the geneva bible i find it fascinating on the geneva bible at the top when it's kind of giving its commentary it says three witnesses and then on the other side christ is very god because when it says jesus christ the same is very god and eternal life babes keep your sells from idols amen very difficult to read by the way it really is it's uh but christ very god i love that in the geneva in his son jesus christ the same is very god this is the true god eternal life that's just wonderful so this is what the inside of a king james 16 11 looked like even though a much bigger bible much bigger print and we'll let you take a look in here we'll turn it to a page and it was annotations you'll notice one of the things the king james translators were told to do is don't do much in the sides don't do much in the margins don't you dare because it was in the margins and the notes the geneva bible would get into trouble at least in the king's eyes and so you know the scots man they you know i'm thinking of knocks and some of these just the covenant tears you know they they made a covenant with god dedicating scotland to jesus and if you've never studied the history of that it's pretty intense because like they still hold scotland under that and say god hold scotland after that so just a little examination of a geneva 1560 and a kjv 1611 the actual wording i've got a wiggles octopus someday somewhere down here i tend maybe i'm doing some more comparisons there's wiggles octopus i just found it so uh you just keep living for jesus let everybody make heaven we're in the home stretch it seems let's make it in jesus name god bless you
