After six long weeks of anguish. Finally, there's some small comfort for the family of 17 year old Kaitlin Hernandez. The scene was found murdered in a drainage culvert near her northeast side home. As a 15 year old suspect appeared before a judge, she joins us live from the do crime scene with an exclusive look from inside the courtroom. Yes. So today in a court hearing that lasted a total of about two minutes, there were a few small steps toward justice for this devastated family. 15 years old, the slight framed, 15 year old appeared before juvenile judge Cruz Shaw representatives for the state said the teen has been troubled and could remain a danger to himself or others. He hit high school behavior just deteriorated. He is not to be a, the defense attorney asked for the teen to be released on a GPS monitor. He does have the ability to behave. And if he is restrained to his home and a curfew, Judge Shaw gave the teen a chance to speak but he remained silent and the judge said in the name of community safety, the teen should remain in custody. Now, no facts were revealed in open court but just a few minutes after that hearing ended, police did release a statement and these are the things that they said knew today. First of all, the male friend who has been charged was interviewed initially and at the time, they didn't have enough evidence to hold him. However, over time, DNA evidence was developed that linked the suspect and the victim. And they said to the possibility of a sexual assault and of course the murder. And finally, they said when they went to make the arrest last night, it was made without incident. Now, juveniles are not eligible for bond. They go back to court every 10 days for a detention hearing. So on May 15th, he will be back in court for his next proceeding.
