the animal kingdom is a cutthroat world where every creature has to keep alert just in case a predator is hiding around the next corner attacks are just a part of daily life and while usually they'll only approach a target they think they'll have a good chance against sometimes they majorly underestimate what they're getting themselves in for here are the 15 times animals messed with the wrong opponent number 15 duck and opponent pelicans are funny animals and have massive beaks in comparison to the size of the rest of their bodies so they can swoop in over the ocean and scoop up water and fish to feed on when they return to their nests their stature means they can be somewhat overconfident with their abilities though which can lead to an unexpected outcome here a flock of pelicans has landed on someone's backyard and are so hungry that they decide to target some nearby pigeons the first sneaks up on the smaller birds and catches one in its mouth but instead of submitting like the pelican expects it to the pigeon fights for its life the pelican isn't able to keep its mouth closed around the meal strong enough and the pigeon keeps flapping its wings and struggling to escape and you can see it forcing the pelican's beak open eventually the pelican is able to swallow it but it still fights back even as it's passing down the throat it's not clear whether the pelican survived this but it definitely wouldn't have been a pleasant experience and it will probably think twice before trying to eat one of these again before we go on we have a cool challenge for y'all that will take five seconds to complete let's make a deal just leave a like on this video smash that subscribe button and hit the notification bell and you will get 10 years of amazing luck and fortune try it it actually works number 14 giraffe versus lion lions are without a doubt the apex predators of the savannah but this doesn't mean they can attack anything without fear of reprisal this incredible footage shows the dangers that they face when trying to take on large prey and in this example the lion didn't come out on top the pride had found an isolated and seemingly weary or injured giraffe which by all rights should have been easy picking for them the giraffe though still had some fight left in it and was able to leverage its larger weight against its attackers as two lines look on you can see the carcass of the first one that tried to attack and had been crushed beneath the giraffe's hoof the other lines look unstunned at what has just happened and while the one on the floor is still moving a little the giraffe finishes it off with a few well-timed stamps it is of course incredibly rare to see a herbivore kill a carnivore like this but the giraffe definitely made its point and ensured that the other lions would leave it alone number 13. zebras vs heartbeast this video was recorded at a wildlife sanctuary and while you may think that animals that are usually considered to be prey might work together to fend off the advances of predators here they are battling each other for some reason the zebras have taken a disliking to the newborn heartbeast and the clip begins with them stamping on it on the ground luckily the young heartbeast survives this initial attack and its parents have no choice but to go on the offensive against the group of zebras they first use their horns to fend them off and then circle the youngster as the three of them head to the bushes the zebras continue to try and return to continue the attack but they don't get a chance to get close after one more attack the heartbeast are able to get to the safety of the vegetation and the zebras are left to their own devices it's not entirely clear why they became so aggressive on this occasion but it's possible that they were defending their territory where they were just about to give birth to their own babies number 12 chimps versus raccoons normally in zoos animals are either kept only with their own species or at least with ones that they get on with but here a local raccoon has managed to sneak into the chimp enclosure and got more than it bargained for it probably went there to look for food but the chimps didn't take kindly to finding a thief in their territory so decided to teach it a lesson it's hiding in a bush but the chimps move in to pull it out and show it who's in charge they chase after it but with six chimps against one raccoon there's surely only one way that this is going to end the raccoon is hit and sent flying but amazingly it's still alive it makes a run for a pipe to escape but one of the chimps grabs it by the tail and pulls it back before another moves in to deliver punches to its body the raccoon did eventually manage to escape probably feeling very sore after the experience and it'll definitely think twice about entering this place again in search of food number 11 bear gets hit in the nuts bears are some of the most mischievous and cheekiest animals that there are and they seemingly can't resist the chance to mess with humans from stealing picnics and rummaging through bins they can be a real hazard for some communities but sometimes karma gets them back in the most glorious ways possible here a man had become annoyed because he suspected vandals had been vandalizing his water tank so he set up a camera to try and catch them in the act to his surprise though he found out that the culprit was a bear but even he couldn't have imagined what was about to happen it's wrestling with the piece's offense trying to clear it out of the way to get to where it wants to be as it wrangles with a length of rope though things go wrong and it whips around and hits the bear directly in its delicates clearly in agony the bear moves off to the side and rolls around trying to cope with the pain that'll surely teach it for causing damage and might make it reconsider its actions next time it thinks about trying to steal from people number 10 dublin zoo wake-up call this next clip was recorded by visitors to dublin zoo who were enthralled by the majesty of the big cats in the tiger enclosure normally you'd expect to see them lounging about in the sun but this group was in for a real treat and an insight into how the social dynamics of tigers truly work the male tiger walks down the hill and across the ground to a female who's half asleep and minding her own business this approach however is clearly not welcome and it seems that she's had enough of him bothering her she leaps up turns towards the mail and starts swiping him gesturing that she's not interested in his advances and that he should leave her well alone the male looks glum as she continues to snarl at him and there's not much he can do apart from retreat back to his side of the enclosure it's a lesson that all animals learn at some point in their lives but is amazing to see unfold in a species like this and you really get a sense of their personalities number nine dog vs pelicanos if you found yourself surrounded by more than a hundred large pelicans what would you do in this next clip that's exactly the situation that a small dog has found itself in while feeding on some scraps of fish that have been left on the beachfront and the birds have begun to move in to take the food for themselves if the pelicans worked together they could easily overpower the dog but they aren't that smart instead the dog goes on the offensive and when the birds get too close it runs towards them and bares its teeth the pelicans back off into the water and clearly don't want to get in a fight but still every time the dog turns its back to eat some more another group of the birds begins to approach to see what they can snatch too amazingly the dog doesn't flinch at all and every time it looks around the pelicans retreat again in the end though the dog has had enough of them and runs towards the biggest group to send them flying away for good number eight helicono vs paloma as the saying goes a wonderful bird is the pelican its beak can hold more than its belly can and never is this more true than when they're in a sunny park with hundreds of other birds around them this video was recorded in st james park in london and shows just how greedy the birds can be with such a huge beak they can fit virtually anything inside and this pelican has no problems catching a pigeon what can you do once it has it in its mouth though the pigeon keeps fighting to escape and the pelican struggles to contain it with feathers flying out of the beak and the pelican trying its best to swallow its victim the fight is finally over and it manages to swallow the pigeon hole it certainly wasn't easy though and makes you wonder why pelicans even bother trying to eat other birds surely it would be much easier to focus on fish which their beaks are designed to help them efficiently catch and they wouldn't have so much fight back to contend with number 7 turtle vs snake we often think of snakes as being vicious predators that can take on almost anything and turtles as peaceful serene creatures that float through the ocean but this next video will make you rethink all of that a snake has approached a snapping turtle but gets far more than it bargained for the turtle starts roaring at the snake telling it to back off but the snake doesn't listen it strikes several times at the turtle apparently still thinking that it will be able to overpower it but on some attempts it instead gets caught inside the turtle's mouth and has to quickly back off finally the turtle manages to catch the snake and bites down tightly to prevent it from escaping it crunches down with its powerful jaws and squeezes all of the life out of the serpent after a few more bites to make sure it has finally killed its enemy the turtle holds the snake's body in its mouth and drags it off back to its home where it can fully its prize in peace number six turtle vs pigeon it can be tough when you find that your home is being invaded by pigeons especially when they're trying to take your food and in this clip the turtle who lives in the pond has clearly had enough of being pestered by the birds it swims up to the edge and walks onto the land and in a flash it snaps at one of the pigeons that walks towards it it keeps the bird held tightly in its grip and drags it into the depths of the water the pigeon had absolutely no chance of avoiding the attack or escaping and it's almost unbelievable to see a turtle behaving in this way unsurprisingly all of the other birds left the area quickly after seeing what happened to their friend and a few moments later the turtle returned to the surface still with the pigeon in its mouth and proceeded to eat it as omnivorous animals this happens a lot in the wild it's just very rare to see it in action and even more rare for someone to catch events unfolding on camera simply because of the speed at which it happens number five mouse rat vs bird in this clip a man had fallen asleep on a bench in madrid but was awoken by the strange sound of something happening in front of him when he realized what was happening he immediately reached for his camera to record it because it's very rare that you'll see a bird fighting with a mouse the rodent was scavenging for food by the statue when the bird flies in and pulls it back by its tail there's then a standoff with both of them looking at each other trying to work out what the best next move is but the bird has the upper hand it continually pecks at the mouse and its victim has no choice but to try and run away still the bird won't relent though and despite trying to fend it off the mouse keeps being attacked just as you think it might escape it's grabbed by the tail and dragged back to where it started surprisingly though it almost seems as if the two are playing because after a while the bird simply loses interest and flies away the mouse is left to lick its wounds and learned the lesson that next time it sees a bird it should run away as quickly as possible because in the future it might not be so lucky number four strong gazelle versus cheetah cheetahs are not only the fastest land animals on the earth but are also fierce predators that will attack virtually anything they come across to feed their families but occasionally they pick a fight with the wrong opponent and things go catastrophically wrong this clip shows just how bad things can get when a cheetah approaches and attacks a gazelle this is something that's extremely common in the wild and 99 times out of the 100 the cheetah would undoubtedly emerge victorious sometimes though the cheetah can find itself way out of its depth as happens here in a flurry of dust the cheetah holds on to the back of the gazelle and tries to get a better position to make a deadly blow but the gazelle is far too strong and keeps running and kicking at its attacker the cheetah's cubs join in to help her try and take down the prey but still it's no use even with three of them holding onto the gazelle by their teeth it continues to fight and manages to plunge its horns into the largest cheetah once this happens the cats decide it's far too risky to continue and back off leaving their prey the chance to live another day number three families are powerful crocodiles are some of the deadliest creatures on earth because of their muscly frames and incredibly powerful bite but they still have to be careful about which prey they target because there's only so many large animals that one can take on by themselves here a croc is trying to catch its afternoon meal of baby boar but no matter how often it tries it's fended off by the parents they have a powerful stamp that's enough to make the croc back off but it doesn't give up trying each attempt though results in a powerful kick and the croc eventually realizes that it's outnumbered instead of continuing to chase after the boar it simply lies still with its mouth open and waits for them to leave it's amazing to see that while we often think animals like boar have no way to fend off the advances of a vicious predator they seem perfectly equipped to deal with any threat that comes towards them it's from videos like this that you realize that maybe the circle of life isn't so circular number two fights back lions rule the roost when it comes to the wilds of africa you'll have seen countless documentaries that show their stealthy hunting methods that help them to catch even the largest prey what they don't show you though is that quite often things don't entirely go to plan and if they happen to attack something that is ready to fight for its life they're in for a fight heroline has found a herd of wildebeests and goes in for the kill it's almost invisible at first while it's hiding in the grass but suddenly leaps out and sets chase as it's just about to bite at the victim's tail it turns around and faces the lion head on which leaves the big cat unsure what to do next the will the beast keeps moving forward towards the lion who has no way to defend itself it is charged at so is left with no choice but to retreat and results in the unusual sight of the predator being chased away by its prey number one the little guy doesn't always go as planned if a large cow and a small goat were to face off against one another who do you think would win if your answer was quite sensibly the cow then you're in for a surprise with this next video which shows the smaller animals standing up for itself quite impressively in the face of a more powerful opponent they are locked by the horns and pushing against each other but every time the cow seems to have the upper hand the goat is able to push back it's something about the confidence of the goat that has confused the cow because if it was simply a test of strength then of course the larger of the two would win it's a bizarre sight seeing such a smaller animal control and dominate something that's so much bigger and obviously isn't in a scenario where either of their lives were on the line instead the two spend a lot of time on the farm together and are friends so this was just a case of them playing about without meaning to cause any harm to each other whatsoever which of these did you find to be the most surprising and what's the biggest or most dangerous animal that you think that you yourself could take on make sure to let us know in the comments section also check out our other cool stuff showing
