hey what's up everybody just wanted to make a quick video about a blog post um that I wrote over on electricians library.com and I wrote I I'm making this video for those of you that haven't checked the the blog post out but uh it's gotten a lot of good response and traction just thought I'd get this out there on a video for all of you apprentices out there but also um to get the opinion of you journeyman and Masters out there and I scoured the web because I had the question what uh what is a journey electrician looking for an apprentice right out of school and I compiled this list and found uh found a lot of good resources and feedback and I just want to share this list with you real quick it's 15 short things I'm not going going to go into Quick a lot of depth on it but uh I just wanted to uh put it out there see what you guys thought so number one and these aren't in any specific order um these are basically just things that I found and uh I I put them down and it's it's not any specific order so number one be teachable number two be humble number three focus on your mechanical skills first and learn learn how to actually do things number four learn how to use the NEC as a reference and not as a how to book because it's not teaching you how to it's just teaching you the code um don't let me see you on your cell phone a lot of employers don't like that you're wasting their time so stay off the cell phone um clean up a mess without having to be told to do it take a little initiative even if it is just cleaning up get it get it done um come to work on time that's a huge one some I've heard it said the problem with employees is they come late leave early and steal while they're there don't do that simple as that be on time work a little extra if you need to uh ask questions if you're not 100% positive about what you're doing don't just assume that you can figure it out and know what you're doing ask questions it's okay everybody's been there dress like a professional don't come with the baggy pants with the the big earrings and and you know looking like a punk you know dress like a professional it's it's a profession okay not just a trade as profession it's career um always show up with the required tools that's a that's a big one if you're always having to ask for tools then uh it's going to cause a problem uh don't over complicate the simple stuff don't oversimplify the comp licated stuff and don't overthink the wellestablished um if you prove if you prove yourself responsible and reliable if you shut up and work and uh you accept your mistakes that's a big one accept the mistakes that you make and man up then you're already going to be 90% ahead of everybody else um two ears one mouth that's the ratio listen more than you than you speak okay uh keep working hard even when no one's around if everybody leaves the job site it's not time to take a break just just keep on keep on trucking and and then uh the last uh the last one is don't try to reinvent a whole bunch of Wonder Solutions an example that they gave was use a uh razor knife to take the Sona tube off the uh light pillar don't soak it in gasoline and burn it off so anyways those are those are 15 things that uh that I found that journeyman really wish the the apprentices would know for all you Journeymen and Masters out there let me know what you think and if there's anything to add leave it in the comments below so anyways thanks for checking out out guys and until next time stay [Music] grounded
