hello my sewing bees and welcome to suki sews and in today's video i'm going to share with you my 15 must-have tools for machine embroidery if this is the first time we're meeting hi my name is sue i also go by suki and on this channel i provide expert guidance for sewing machine embroidery and notion reviews machine embroidery is such fun but definitely having the right tools can give you the professional results that we all desire so in today's video in no particular order i'm going to list my 15 must-have tools for machine embroidery let's get started the first step would be duckbill applique scissors now i do prefer a smaller pair like the four inch that you see here with the purple or the larger ones that are four and a half inch they work really nice with getting into the hoop of your embroidery project the idea of a duckbill applique scissor is that one side is nice and sharp like a traditional pair of scissors whereas the other side is scooped preventing you from accidentally cutting a side of material you don't want the second would be the all-purpose craft scissors they're about five and a half inches long and the idea is that even though they're short they're super strong and sharp so just like your fabric shears they work the same as in the the amount of materials that they can cut through however your hand is closer to the blade which means that you're able to have a little bit more control when cutting thick layers in small areas the third are the easy stitch snips with hook these are fantastic especially with those tiny little jump threads that machine embroidery does produce you're able to use the hook to get underneath that jump thread and then you can go back and clip it all in one swoop or you can use that little hook to pull the threads up and get into a tiny area that would otherwise be really difficult number four are the angled precision tweezers the reason i like these for machine embroidery is because of the obvious it's because of that angle i can see exactly what i'm working for on an angle versus as kind of tilting my head to the side and seeing where the tip of those tweezers would be these are great for ripping out threads placing things i mean as soon as you get them you're going to realize that you can't live without them especially for machine embroidery when you have tiny little places that you need to get into these are fantastic number five is the by annie stiletto and pressing tool now even though i use the stiletto for sewing projects for machine embroidery i tend to only use the pressing tool end and every single in the hoop zipper bag i create i use the pressing tool and it is amazing and makes pressing inside your hoop a cinch number six is a traditional point turner the kind that has a point on one side and a rounded end on the other when you're working within the hoop zipper bags and you're wanting to get nice crisp corners that's when the pointed end will come in real handy and when you're working on in the hoop projects like mug mats or coasters or pot holders you can use the rounded end to get the curve nice and smooth and flat number seven is the easy point and turner in fact i designed this the idea of this is that when you're working with a project that needs to be turned right side out usually within the hoop projects the opening is quite small and it's hard to get your fingers inside of it but with the easy point and turner you just take one end in clamp it down and then turn the project right side out it is so easy and fast and speaking of products i've created i must share with you the pocket guide to stabilizers now even though this is not a tool this is an essential addition to your machine embroidery kit this pocket size reference guide has 56 pages of clear and concise instruction on which stabilizer you need for every material every single time number eight is matte clear tape yep that's right just regular tape i do prefer the matte type because the needle perforates it which it makes it easier to remove later on and it's low residue so it won't gum up your needle i find it works wonderful with in the hoop projects number nine is needles and just like any sewing application there are needles designed especially for machine embroidery the two that i prefer the most one is the top stitch needle it has an extra sharp tip an enlarged groove and is designed to work with dense fabric which is ideal for embroidering on cork and vinyl and then of course there's the machine embroidery needles they are designed to work with rayon polyester and specialty embroidery thread have a widened groove and enlarged eye and are designed to protect fragile thread at high speeds number 10 is fabric glue this glue is designed to work with your materials and it doesn't gum up your needle there really is only two types there's one that refills and that you can use in like a pen like this and then those little refillable ones are really small in diameter which is great for in the hoop projects and the other is a one-time use so when you're done with the glue you would just toss the entire container but it's larger which is nice because it covers more surface space this is a really nice alternative when you're adhering materials to stabilizer number 11 is spray adhesive which is also a way to adhere your materials to your stabilizers the thing with spray adhesive is that you want to make sure that you spray it away from your embroidery machine you don't want the adhesive to gum up any of the surfaces or get inside the mechanics of the machine number 12 are sew tights these handy little gadgets were originally designed for english paper piecing but once i got my hands on them i decided i was going to use them for machine embroidery they're designed with one side as a thin piece of metal and the other is a magnet with plastic coating they come in all different shapes and sizes which is great depending on what kind of embroidery project you're working on and i use them to hold the stabilizer to the materials just make sure that your needle and your presser foot always clear the so tights that way you don't break anything but you're going to find that these are a wonderful handy invention and a must-have for machine embroidery number 13 is thread stands there are singular ones like this that telescope up tall and are ideal for larger embroidery threads or also metallic threads it gives the thread a chance to straighten up and get all the kinks out before it gets to the eye of the needle and then there are multi-thread stamps now these are unique to the brand and sometimes even specific to the machine you have now mine is a bernina 790 plus and it is designed for my machine the idea is that you can put all your threads for the design on this thread stand and then just change them out as needed i love my thread stand it's a wonderful addition that i am so thankful i have number 14 is the perfect placement kit from dime now if you do a lot of embroidering on blank goods like t-shirts and linens and towels this might be a wonderful solution for you the idea is it comes with a set of clear plastic templates that have the centering for your embroidery design perfectly placed for example this handkerchief i just take the corner i place it in the corner of the handkerchief and then i use a crosshair sticker so that i know exactly where the needle is going to sink in for the center of the design and once you have this kit you'll see there's all kinds of tricks around getting that perfect placement every single time there's so many different templates that come with this particular kit but you know what there's other kits available too so be sure to check the links in the description so that you can see all the ones available and number 15 on my must-have tools for machine embroidery is the hoop mat by dime the thin blue silicon mat is printed with thick grid lines and makes placement a cinch the non-skid surface forces the hoop to stay put while inserting your embroidered items well i hope you enjoyed this video and if there's a tool that i left off the list let me know in the comments below and that way everybody can see and if you enjoyed this video do me a favor and give me a thumbs up and be sure to subscribe to my youtube channel and now if you're ready to
