water covers them vast majority of our planet's surface and there's so much that lies beneath the waves and the way yet to explore it's very difficult to see beyond the surface though and conventional imaging techniques just don't cut it but there are times when we get a helping hand from nature to get a peek during times of drought or due to human activity that changes water levels things that were once hidden are revealed and show just how mysterious the aquatic world is we've found some of the best examples that have ever been photographed so let's look at 15 of the most bizarre discoveries found in drained water before we begin make sure to hit the like button subscribe to our Channel and click the notification bill for more amazing videos every day with that being said let's begin number 15 underwater forest in the 1900s there was a massive drive for the creation of dams across America to supercharge the nation's energy production to enable the power grid to keep up with demand the results of this policy could be seen across the country and there's one in Washington state that has thrown up a few surprises by constructing the dam in 1911 a reservoir was created behind the wall and this of course provided water to pass through the turbines to generate electricity but also gave locals a place to fish collect drinking water and for recreational activities recently though the decision was made to fully drain the reservoir after the company that ran the dam stopped using it for power production and a crack was discovered that needed to be fixed what they found where the water once was surprised everyone slowly as the levels fell a forest began to emerge as well as a railway trestle and the thing is records from the time of the dams construction mentioned the parts of the rail word that was submerged but there's no mention of the forests nor are there any pictures of what it looked like before could this possibly mean that the trees only grew after the region was flooded or was this just the case of poor record-keeping either way it's an impressive sight seeing the trees re-emerge him from the water and it really emphasizes the environmental cost of such construction projects time for the rare topic there are all sorts of things that are hidden beneath water but this has to be one of the weirdest we've ever seen we found this picture that had been taken at a dam after an extended dry season and as you can see the water has receded quite significantly what's particularly strange though is this object that's stretched out across the barrier but what is it it looks to be some sort of animal maybe a giant snake or an eel and it's definitely not something you'd want to come face-to-face with if you were in the water with it do you know what it is and can you think of any reason why it's managed to get stuck in this position as always comment down below with the hashtag hashtag career topic and let us know your opinion in relation to what we just showed on screen let's move on to the next one number fourteen Bombay Beach town the largest lake in California Salton Sea didn't exist before the turn of the 20th century and was actually created completely by accident because of the type of soil that was there officials decided to build an extensive irrigation network that was fed by the Colorado River and encouraged farmers to move into the region with the hope that it would become an invaluable source of crops in 1905 though heavy rains caused the river to burst its banks and breached the irrigation canals and the entire region was flooded this became known as the Salton Sea and it went on to become a popular tourist resort by the 50s there were towns around the lake and factories that released their waste into the water and the problem was there because this was a man-made formation there was no natural drainage which meant that all of the hazardous materials remained in the lake eventually people moved away and the fluctuating water levels both consumed and revealed structures in its vicinity recently one of the towns that was once beneath the water has been uncovered known as Bombay beach town it was once a hive of activity where celebrities and tourists would come to enjoy the entertainment on the water but now as you can see it's a ghost town these images are a reminder of the power of nature and its ability to overwhelm communities that are built in vulnerable spots luckily no one was here when it happened but the water in land is so toxic that those that did once live here have gone on to develop some severe medical conditions number 13 guns and pistols tempt Town Lake opened in 1999 after authorities built a large canal as part of the central Arizona Project we saw water being redirected from the Colorado River towards communities that were in desperate need of it the project was a total success and the towns on the edge of this artificial reservoir began to thrive design though utilized rubber barriers to keep the water where it should be and just a few years later these began to fail it was no easy fix the entire reservoir had to be drained before works could begin but this itself threw up some unusual discoveries when workers were surveying the newly revealed land they found three guns one of them had been reported stolen and all of them were thought to have been recently involved in a crime it turns out that while a large reservoir was great for local businesses it also provided local criminals with the perfect way to dispose of evidence tests were of course carried out on the weapons but unfortunately because they'd spent so much time submerged there was no way to recover any useful proof of who was involved in the crimes number 12 75 meters shells from world war ii gold coins etc the canal saint-martin is a water route through paris connecting the river seine with the canal to look across just under three masts Construction was completed by 1825 thanks to funds raised by a new tax on wine and became a major part of the city a few decades later it was covered over to expand road space but these coverings were eventually removed to expose the canal once more and it seems that Parisians have seen it as a place to throw their trash ever since it has to be cleared each year but in 2016 an 11 million dollar project began that drained the entire stretch so it could be cleaned up they found an unbelievable amount of junk once the water levels dropped with estimates suggesting there are at least 40 tons of debris but there were also several curious discoveries Shell's that remain from world war ii were the most dangerous objects with some still active that had to be detonated under controlled conditions as well as the bombs there were a large number of gold coins a safe a car and countless bikes Cheers and super market rallies they do this every 15 years or so and it's a unique insight into the history of the city it'll be at least another 10 years until it's done again and you have to wonder what they'll find next time number 11 Nazi nuke in Norway the end of the Second World War in the 1940s is well documented things could have gone very differently if it wasn't for a little-known mission on a lake in Norway the Nazis had built a facility at a hydroelectric dam where they were developing their own version of the nuclear bomb and by all accounts I'm very close to success and the Allies got wind of an important project taking place there they sank a ferry that was seen heading in its direction no one ever knew for sure what was being carried on the boats but in 2005 when the lake was being drained it was finally discovered on investigating its contents it was discovered to be carrying a small amount of heavy water a vital ingredient for the production of nuclear weaponry and a sign that had this ferry reached its destination the Nazis all they needed to complete their plans it's an important discovery that sheds light on how close the war was before the development of the most powerful weapon in history and had the Nazis succeeded in their version the war would have likely lasted for far longer number 10 ghost town in Bluffton the original town of Bluffton Texas was founded in 1850 in a valley near Colorado River by the 1900s though the demand for electricity in the region was rapidly increasing and it was decided that this would be the ideal location for a hydroelectric dam with a reservoir behind it two towns including Bluffton were therefore relocated to a nearby site beyond the reach of the waters in a huge project that involved moving 300 deceased community members that were buried there and by 1937 the valley was full of water and the former town was lost for good at least that's what everyone thought but there was a major drought in 2011 that meant very little water fed into the reservoir levels began to rapidly fallen for the first time in 80 years the long-forgotten town began to resurface was a ghostly site and visitors found tombstones old buildings the remains of animals and possessions such as cars the residents weren't able to take with them it was a unique snapshot into the America of the past and was an invaluable historical source for a time that it remained uncovered the rains eventually returned however and the reservoir filled and the town was submerged once more perhaps one day it'll be revealed again and is yet another example of the massive sacrifices that often have to be made for these giant construction projects number nine network of secret rooms the Grand bridge in Oxfordshire England is a famous local landmark in the grounds of Blenheim Palace but it had been there for so long that it was beginning to crumble in 2018 the decision was made to drain the lakes on the estate of the palace where Winston Churchill was born a than 400,000 tons of silt had to be removed during the process their work has found something unbelievable a network of more than 30 rooms within the bridge were uncovered which had been submerged since the lakes were created in the 1760s the bridge itself had originally been built as a habitable aqueduct in 1708 and contained rooms with fireplaces and chimneys and even a large room which is thought to have been a theatre graffiti dating back to the 18th century was found on the walls and so were more recent objects such as boats that have fallen into the water or sunk in the past few decades surprisingly the owners of the estate weren't wildly impressed with the rooms inside the bridge after it had been built and even wrote sarcastic comments about it there's no evidence to suggest that they were ever used by anyone and they couldn't wait to create the legs that flooded the structure and covered up what they saw as a blight on the landscape what do you think would you want to live in rooms like this under a bridge or where the owners right to do what they did number 8 real-life statues British sculptor Jason Taylor was the creator of the world's first ever underwater sculpture park and museum called the Cancun and the water museum which is just off the coast of Cancun Mexico on the seabed there are more than 500 different statues most of which were created by Taylor himself but all of which are based upon real people they're all between 10 and 20 feet deep and all sorts of different shapes and sizes it's a surreal thing to see and draws visitors from around the world who want to dive into the depths and see the statues for themselves what's possibly the most interesting thing about the place though is what might happen in the future while we know now what it is things like this are often forgotten about through the passage of time and may one day be rediscovered what will people of the future think of these and what will they think of the people that live today based on what they learn from the mysterious statues number seven town of old Detroit Detroit lake in Oregon was formed by the construction of a 463 foot tall dam in 1952 and declared a 3,000 acres needed for this work to happen several communities were forcibly relocated as with many others that have been abandoned in this way the towns were soon forgotten but with recent weather events they've begun to emerge from beneath the waters once more in 2015 the rainwater that usually comes to refill the lake failed to do so after an extended period of drought by October of that year the water levels had fallen to their lowest point since the dams construction more than 60 years earlier as sheriff's deputy who was looking around the area first discovered the remains of the 19th century wagon that was sticking out from above the water and this itself was an incredible find according to a metal plate on the wagon it was built in 1875 by the Millburn wagon company from Ohio and the low oxygen levels in the lower parts of the lake had meant that it was remarkably well preserved nearby the remains of the lost town of old Detroit were also found they included buildings wells other vehicles and even railroad tracks in another somber reminder of how easily a thriving town like this can be lost and forgotten and how many others do you think might be around the United States and the rest of the world how many towns and how many towns can cities that are now home to thousands or millions of people will one day suffer from the same fate number six unsolved mystery sometimes receding waters can reveal tragic discoveries that can finally provide answers to unsolved mysteries and provide some form of closure to the families involved in the 1970s three teenagers from Oklahoma went missing without a trace and there was no sign even or what had happened to their vehicles their close friends and family were left mystified but what had happened to them and for decades kept hope that their missing children was still alive somewhere recently though they got the answers they feared they may one day receive a drought in Oklahoma meant that the water levels of fossil egg began to fall and immediately locals noticed the rusted remains of two cars in the center of it authorities went authorities went to investigate what these were and inside the vehicles they found the remains of all of the missing teenagers DNA evidence proves that it was them but it wasn't clear what had happened to them and how their cars and bodies managed to make it all the way to the center of the lake what do you think happened to them and why did the remains end up where they were finally found number five hand grenades and poison bottles countries around the world have benefited from the construction of canal networks that connect their natural waterways and provide an alternative method of transportation which was particularly useful before the invention of the car one problem arises with artificial roots though and that's that there isn't a natural means of clearance people to tend to use canals to dispose of their trash they often have to be dredged to clear them out and allow the water to flow as intended Great Britain has a vast canal network and with this comes a huge amount of junk that's removed from them they have there been some really interesting finds some of the more unusual objects include a Second World War Hand Grenade from 1942 a discarded pizza delivery bike and ominously an empty antique bottle of poison plenty of other items have been found - such as the remains of a 16 foot long Python countless cars tires and a huge number of knives and other weapons that are suspected to have been used in unsolved murders and attacks interestingly these are just the things that have been found and the process of dredging is by no means a comprehensive clearance who knows what else might be stuck in the mud beneath the water and what might one day be recovered number four the first submarine nowadays submarines are well tested and developed but the idea of an underwater vehicle wasn't always such an easy prospect numerous different designs were tried but one of the first successful prototypes was built by an inventor called James Delgado and it was thought to have long been lost though as are many old inventions but it's now thought to have been discovered albeit in an unexpected place a group of friends were exploring some deserted islands in the Pacific Ocean and they found this metallic object washed up on the coast it's believed by many to be what remains of the first-ever submarine but the real question is how did such a primitive machine manage to make it all the way here number three secret trapdoor during routine draining and maintenance in a canal in Manchester England workers discovered something very unusual and it's still not entirely clear how it got there or who was responsible for it when the canal network was built it was an engineering marvel a system of locks was used to enable them to traverse the differ in height of the landscape and all the routes were constructed in similar ways when this canal was emptied though a trapdoor was found in it it certainly wasn't a part of the original designs and it's very unlikely that it was put there when the canal was originally built so who did build it and wine and perhaps more mysteriously how was it possible to build it in the middle of a canal without anyone else noticing number 2 live bomb with the number of wars that have been ways throughout history it's frightening to think of the number of live ordinates and it may still be out there without anyone knowing about it in Europe former world war ii bombs and floating mines are often found and in a lot of ways it's just a regular part of life but would you have expected a similar thing to happen near to seattle in the US well that's exactly what happened in 1988 when a hundred pound bomb from world war ii was found at the bottom of lake washington worryingly it was still live and could have been detonated by any recreational users above and this was a popular lake for boaters swimmers and other visitors but how could a bomb from a war that was mostly fought on the other side of the world be found here the answer is that it was on the flight path of u.s. planes that were making their way to the war and it's thought that one of them was forced to jettison its payload because of an in air emergency when faced with where to drop the deadly cargo it makes sense that the pilot chose a lake where he thought it would sink and become inert where he risked hitting civilians or damaging vital infrastructure number one crashed airplane this video shows what happened when a youtuber went exploring in a quarry that had recently been drained of a lot of water they found lots of discarded junk as they looked across the recently exposed land including tweezers scissors a power drill and a few other unidentifiable objects it had only just recently snowed so was more difficult to spot any object that wasn't meant to be there but soon they came across a stunning find after sifting through small items they discovered the remains of a crashed plane there was luckily no sign of a pilot but she have to wonder how it managed to get here and what happened to the people on board have you ever seen anything as bizarre as all of these which one was the most surprising to you see you next time
