15 Months of Misadventures - Our Strawbale House

it all laid out Run's all the way up to there so it was pretty tricky down through here getting it all to work with uh going out there you see here's the gray water but we did it father and son at Veterans Day as you can see it's not exactly a holiday for owner Builders the walls every bail is up all nine courses let's go up the ladder and take a look there we go a little different perspective now up here 12 ft off the ground 400 and plus Bales 400 Le pieces of rebar to pin them all together nine courses 12 ft High who knows how many custom Bales the goal is to take all of these and these little ones down here and lift them up there to the roof and we're going to have a crane come out a bunch of folks should be an interesting afternoon whoa where can we go [Applause] there's Isabelle the youngest and uh there's Grandpa and Grandma mild the oldest [Music] well it's December 10th it's about 35 degrees out here it's really cold remember what I used to be out here sweating to death and now it's I'm all bundled up to keep from freezing we have the roof on you see there it is there [Music] hey there it is [Music] big smile stuff and [Music] straw yes what are you looking Clippers we still need to work if anyone forgets my name it's like hey you I respond to that too let's see it's getting better there's our bathroom yep see that string see that string right there I did that string there's Mr federov working on his house see it actually does happen hardly working on his house well I'm the up guy hardly working or working hard yeah one of the J working hard in the house you guys have a nice view oh isn't that great data data telephone and and video M we put a plug right here so you know right over the breakfast bar and you can either have a laptop and you have a phone if you want to put a little TV up here got that going on and uh I'll pull back and tightened in here's Mr Morris I'm walking off the job here in about a minute tired of this thing panel fighting with you we have the curved wall in at least the foundation thereof which means we can start filling in the floor we have most of the straw out of here the windows the electricals in and and today I'm going to be installing these additional braces to make the county happy 5 Weeks Later here is our future truth window well here's the curved wall now all filled with cement and curing nicely [Music] what are we trying to do here Nick level your floor oh why is it difficult cuz you live on a rock I have Windows well some windows see here's the front is that a great view yeah that's what I wanted here we are Sunrise was on today bringing their scaffolding getting ready to plaster here's where I spend a great deal of time down here at the county development services going in to talk about plans again spend a lot of time down here it's March 16th yesterday was a bad day today's a pretty good day wow it's Plastering time big pile of sand there house all scaffolded and left outside tucko has been delivered the windows are all detailed here it is the last day that it will look like a straw Bell House at least on the outside forever here's the plastering crew too hard next coat the next coat real happy it's right you got decide what to do with the inside here's the house all done the plaster is taking it down taking down the [Music] scaffolding pictures I'm not taking pictures of the crap I'm taking pictures of youday we put you in the floor [Music] n [Music] it's May 9th and we have a ceiling yay a [Music] going to put that there like those are attach see them [Music] [Music] cooler cooler that's right and this is Carlos Rodriguez who helped me to build it we have a phone the cooling guys are here all this stuff is going to go up there on the roof there's some more cooling stuff next coat of plaster goes on this [Music] week pretty pretty impressive man what's his name 11 days still painting see our still need our fireplace and still need our kitchen 11 days there's Matt working hard on the master bathroom sink smile Eric no smile really there you go smile really that's better then getting the last corner then your turn smile there we go what the hell am my cabinets doing out here on the side of the road there's nobody in sight we've been out here sweating for how many days so why are my cabinets on the side of the road what happened truck got stopped I don't you know I don't know what to do about that you know Mor hey there's two of you he we young but your blocking Dale CL himself and he's getting work done there's the beginnings of the cabinets you can see they're to come from 12: to 88: and work and what they got done was that so much for being here for eight hours [Music] yeah so it's Saturday and uh we have till Tuesday Happy House St pie
