ladies and gentlemen welcome into 12 MLB stadiums that I'm happy never got built beginning with new Fenway Park what a proposal to start with my goodness yes I'm sure many people have heard of the idea to build a brand new Fenway right next to the pre-existing Fenway fun fact about this new stadium because it technically was designed before they did the renovation to Fenway Park because in the 1990s the Red Sox were thinking you know our current Stadium only seats around 34 35,000 we always sell it out why don't we build a stadium with about 10,000 more in terms of capacity we'll get so much more gate Revenue rather than renovating Fenway Park so this new Fenway Park was designed with no monster seating because at the time there was no renovation where they added the monster seating to the original Fenway Park and you look at this proposal and the first thing I always see is just the giant wall of seats out Beyond right center field oh imagine if that got built and then you also do have a completely different upper deck that kind of reminds me of the Petco Park Model Upper Deck overall this Stadium while not being a complete disaster cuz you would still have the monster and I'm sure at some point they would add on Monster seats the capacity of this being around 45k nowadays it's just too much the old Fenway and its limited capacity suits modern times more with it being under 40,000 the Yankee Stadium retractable roof proposal in the early 2000s the New York Yankees needed a new stadium and they turned potentially to a retractable roof it was all the rage it was the newest technology it's the New York Yankees of course they're going to consider a retractable roof Stadium but if you look at the interior design of this Stadium very standard very generic nothing special about it I think think new Yankee stadium is underrated too many people hate on it I know it kind of seems corporate but this one that they potentially would have planned and built I just think the idea of the Yankees having a roof it's just not right it's not tradition this would have cost them probably over $3 billion when you consider the new Yankee stadium without any type of roof structure cost over two billion another potential Stadium involving the New York Yankees this is actually the original Yankee Stadium potentially getting another renovation so in the early 2000s not only were the Yankees thinking of building a new stadium there was also this design to renovate the existing Yankee Stadium and while the drawings are not in HD you really can't see much you can see a beyond the left field wall there does seem to be some type of renovation where they've taken out some lower bow seating you also do have almost like a big restaurant with Windows surrounding you know right below the upper deck interesting idea this never would have worked Yankee Stadium was far too old at this point it had already received a ridiculously huge renovation in the early' 7s and with how big its upper deck design was it was completely obsolete they also probably would have had to change out the seating as well this is an original design for a Denver Stadium connected to a World Trade Center when the Rockies became a thing in Colorado we know they played at Mile High Stadium but this was a proposal to potentially have a World Trade Center office complex connected to a stadium with a helicopter pad on top The Stadium built into the building surrounded on three sides very strange and the stadium itself looks horrible you're talking about just two different decks going around I'm sure these were just preliminary plans but if you're designing a stadium within like an office building it's very hard to do this design design it would have been unique for sure but comparison to co field it's not even close the Delta Dome was a multi-purpose Stadium pitched to bring Portland Oregon an MLB team with a capacity above 45,000 for baseball at this point I am 100% sure if the Delta Dome did happen in the mid1 1960s it would already be demolished it's just a complete concrete shell it looks really ugly on the exterior it's one of those old stadiums kind of reminds me of the Kingdom there's just no real reason to build it I will say when you zoom it in it does look like maybe that is the upper area is a translucent roof a little bit I don't know interesting this was an original design pitched for the new Dodger Stadium in the late 1950s at Chavez Ravine at this point I think if the Dodgers would have built this instead of Dodger Stadium they already would have gotten a new stadium probably in the 90s or the early 2000s when you look at this thing it would at least need a massive renovation you've got seeding going all the way around almost like a giant lower bow SE section going all the way around the Outfield these are really early drawings so it's hard to get a you know a real Vibe for this ballpark but also you have that huge overhang I guess it was kind of understandable with it being LA and how hot it gets but yeah this model pales in comparison to Dodger Stadium in the 19 1960s Boston wanted to get rid of Fenway Park kind of you can see this design for a new multi-purpose this reminds me of Olympic stadium so it technically is retractable you can see the weird configuration of the different sections that come down the problem with stadiums like this there's such a huge overhang that you're not getting a ton of natural light anyways and it just comes off like as this weird concrete shell around the stadium it looks very ugly I'm extremely confident that this Stadium already would be demolished right now and they probably would have like imagine if they actually built this they probably would just rebuild a new Fenway in the early 2000s to get rid of this or even the 1990s at that point this is probably one of the funniest Stadium renderings proposals whatever you want to say of the 1990s you can see when the Giants were at Candlestick they hated it they wanted to move out this was a potential plan stadium and what a beautiful location it is right along the bay the only issue is you've got this concrete Olympic Stadium style facility that's blocking the entire view like like it's the dumbest thing ever you've got such a great location what are you building there imagine if they actually built that the Tropicana Field retractable roof concept was pitched in the early 2000s the reason I'm happy this never got built is because it probably would extend Tropicana Field's life I will say it would be interesting to see the sun shining into the trop but you're just extending an already dead Stadium there's no reason to add this for half a billion dollars and that's part of the reason with stadiums like Tropicana Field and the Oakland Coliseum you don't want to invest money into prolonging their life when the stadium is already so bad you would rather save that money for a brand new stadium and then that kind of puts you in a little bit of a bind of trying to get enough money for a new stadium while also not wanting to renovate your current terrible Stadium which inevitably leaves your Stadium more dilapidated each year that you don't renovate it this was one of multiple different retractable roof designs pitched for the Roger Center or the BL blue jay Stadium what became of the Roger Center so you look at this one it does remind me a little bit of Roger Center you can see like the hotel area would be out in left Center not directly in center field kind of off angle there the the big issue with this one look at the gargantuan right Field Upper Deck oh my goodness they would have had to renovate that they would had to to take a bunch of sections out and turn them into bar areas you could actually put like an entire little city up there in the right Field Upper Deck with how gigantic that is the New York Mets needed a new stadium around the same time as the Yankees and with the Olympics possibly coming to New York there was a major pitch made in the early 2000s to do exact ly what the Atlanta Braves did with Turner Field where they would build a stadium kind of outlined with an MLB facade the interior of it would be the main Olympic stadium and they would take out some seating and you can see the exterior of this Olympic stadium does look like an MLB stadium after plans for a Westside Stadium stalled this was Michael Bloomberg's proposal for an Olympic Stadium combined with what would be the new met Stadium the new stadium would be situated in the parking lot just east of the existing sha Stadium a temporary expansion of the stadium to accommodate Olympic sides crowds would be built and removed at the cost of a quarter of a billion dollars so I'm sure the Mets are very happy that didn't happen Mets fans what tends to happen with something like that where you kind of build an Olympic stadium with the idea that you're going to turn it into an MLB stadium it never lasts I mean look at Turner Field and its short shelf life and what ends up happening is they say well this was originally built with the Olympics in mind now you know the stadium is obsolete there's too many seats it would just be a bad situation all around and then this final one is not an MLB stadium but I had to throw it in here this is just ridiculous it's a reskin of Soldier Field pitched in the year 2015 to be the potential home of both the LA Chargers and the idea was the Raiders would move to LA it was the Chargers and Raiders home and they just completely this is like a West Coast version of Soldier Field Soldier Field is not a good Stadium why would you take it and redo it a decade later on the west coast it makes no sense I'm shocked this ever got pitched but it did
