ladies and gentlemen today we're gonna do a 12 bar blues variation with an exquisite blues turnaround i'm gonna first show it to you and then explain everything slowly and in close up here we go [Music] [Music] [Music] let's do that close up we start with our first finger on the d string second fret and with our picking hand we put our peg here on top of the a string and we hit both a and d strings simultaneously so you strum down two strings from the a and you hit a and d string and you do that two times like that okay what i also do is i mute i put my first finger on the d string second fret and i slightly press the underlying strings here the g b and a e high e string so you don't hear those strings so you want to press the d string second fret and mute those strings by slightly pressing that index finger onto those higher three strings okay so when you strum down and you accidentally strum all the other strings you don't hear those okay that's important because when they're open like that and you hit you go like that you don't want that you want neat and tight so hit those a and d string twice like that then you leave that first finger on there and then you put your third finger on the d string fourth fret and again you hit the a and d string put that pick on the a string on top of the a string strum down two strings a and d like that and you do that two times so we got second fret two times four frets two times and then we add the four finger that pinky on the fifth fret d string to do that you you really want to move that first finger as close to the fret as possible and again that third finger also as close to the fret as possible so you you can reach that fifth fret more easily so in the beginning it's a bit of a stretch but after some practice really you will get there don't worry so that fourth finger on the d string fifth fret and same thing here two times a and d string like that then you remove you take off that fourth finger and you go back to the fourth fret so we got if we talk frets we get two two four four five five four four two two four four five five four four [Music] and that's one whole bar or one whole measure we're gonna do a 12 bar blues here so we got here the first bar talking frets two two four four five five four four and you count like one and two and three and four and so that's counting four quarter notes one and two and three and four and we're playing eight notes here so it's one and two and three and four and okay that's one whole bar we play this four times so we got four bars playing in a call is playing in a one playing four bars here we go one two [Music] three [Music] four okay now moving to d so that means our first finger goes on the g string second fret we're doing exactly the same also now just everything a finger goes one string higher so first finger g string second fret and we place our pick on top of the d string and strum down two strings the d and g string like that again mute that the underlying string here the b in high e just press it slightly so press hard good a good press on the g string second fret and slightly lean on the b and high e string so you don't hear those strings two strum downs on dng then we're going to the fourth fret leave that first finger up up there don't take it off you want to practice the stretch you don't want to do this too and then take it off and then take the other one off you want to leave it up there you want to make your fingers as lazy as possible when they're lazy you can play faster you want to up do as as minimal movements as you can get you don't want to be your fingers all over the place just second fret and again fourth fret two times fifth fret two times and back to the fourth fret two times so that's one whole bar in d two two four four five five four four and again two times okay and now we go back to a so first finger d string second fret and we do this two bars [Music] okay so we've got four bars in a two bars in d then we go back two bars in a now we go to the turn around last four bars we go to e that means our first finger is on the a string second fret we hit the low e and the a string two times then fourth finger on the a string fourth fret two times fourth finger on the a string fifth fret two times take that fourth finger off fourth fret so we've got two two four four five five four four just exactly the same but now lower on the the a string so um we do that one bar again two i'm talking frets here two two four four five five four four then this this we're now playing an e so when you're playing the e n when you get your fingers on the a string and you play low e and a string playing an e we're going back now to d so the first finger on the g string [Music] also one bar we're now playing the 10th bar so we got e bar nine we're going to d so that is that is like a little bit challenging because you got to skip the a you're going playing e and then you're going to play in d so you got to skip that playing an a so that is you got to make that jump or from with your first finger from the a string all the way to the g string you really gotta practice that jump you know and then we'll go into the a again one bar in a and finally an e so repeat the last four bars the turn around first one bar e make that jump in d then back to a [Music] and finally finish in e okay this is like the basic variation we're now gonna add in a moment we're gonna add that exquisite turn around first i wanna play this basic so if you're on a roll and your repeat is in a loop you can play these these 12 bars so we've got four bars in a two bars in d two bars in a uh yes and then turn around one bar e one bar d one bar a one bar e you can play that in a loop the whole time and when you finish your song i'm gonna do that again but then with that the exquisite turnaround first i'm gonna play this slowly for you this basic variation of the 12 bar blue shuffle here we go a count to four one two three four [Music] third bar fourth bar now we're moving to d two bars [Music] back to a two bars we're going to e we're in the turnaround [Music] jump to d [Music] to a and finally e that's where you finish your you end in a so you put the first finger on the d string second fret and you hit that a and d string it's the finish right there okay now instead of the basic turn around playing one bar e d a and e we're gonna replace the last four bars and we're gonna gonna do that exquisite turnaround now so the bar nine and ten remain the same so we got e sorry we jump to d and then you strum one you put your first finger on the d string second fret just one strum in a so take on the a and d string like that just one strum nothing more than that and then we do this okay here we go so the last strum was on a in a and then we pick just an open a string then we put our third finger on the to the uh on the a string third fret and we slide over from the third fret to the fourth fret so you it doesn't even matter if you're on the third fret but just it it's you want to slide to the fourth fret that's what you want to do you can also slide from the second fret but you want to slide directly to that fourth fret so like this you hit that you put your third finger on the a string third fret you hit that string in directly slide over you don't want to do this you don't want to hit it and then slide you when you hit it you're sliding directly to that fourth fret then put your second finger on the g string second fret leave that four finger up there so slide then second fret g string hit that g string then go back to the a string fourth fret so you get slide second g fourth fret a and with the pick i go down up down down up down then i put my second finger on the g string second fret play an open d string then g string second fret and again an open d string so d g d first second finger on the g string second fret again and now you play d g d and again with the picky go down up down so now we get that [Music] okay then you leave that second finger on the g string second fret put your first finger on the d string first fret and again you go d g d sounds a little bit weird now when you're playing it really slow when you're playing it in context you hear it's all okay so it's d g d again with the pick down up down so we got this [Music] and then you move that first finger slide it over to the second fret d string and you play that d string second fret so you get move it up there d string second fret and just hit that d string one more time this position [Music] then we hit the low e string and open e string put your first finger on the b string second fret second finger on the g string third fret fourth finger on the high e string third fret and you strum the higher three strings pick on top of the g string strum down and you slide it over a half step move it up a half step s strum those higher strings and slide up that chord one fret higher or you just do strung and again move it up and strum again like this [Music] you can do two strums like one strum there once from there or hit low open e string strum and slide up [Music] you can choose whatever you like okay so again this open a string slide [Music] [Applause] [Music] or [Music] [Music] and if you put that chord here on the b string eighth fret first finger b string eighth fret second finger on the g string ninth fret and third finger on the high e string ninth fret what i do is i put it on those high three strings but that second finger leans again against that d string so i mute it i press with the tip of my finger on the g string nine fret but lean it up there against the d string so you don't hear that and then i also play the a string [Music] like that and it will let off vibrato this is a bit of a challenge you can also just play the higher the highest three strings g b and e that's the easy way you get from here and then do it like that if you want to play the a string without hitting the d you gotta mute the d string with your with your second finger [Music] it's just a little bonus okay um let's do that whole take again from the start with that exquisite turnaround here we go slowly and in close up i'll count to four one two three four and one [Music] two [Music] three four we're going to d five r five bar six r seven we're going for plane a bar eight we go now to bar nine e part ten we're going to d and we hit one strum on a in [Music] so that is a nice little blues variation with that exquisite turnaround we can do a lot more variations and i will slowly uh step by step day by day week by week i'm gonna teach you more of this stuff and i got a lot of ideas and and i want to explain it all i got oh i can teach this and that and and but we're going to take it slowly because just step by step you know i don't want to make it i don't want to overwhelm you with everything you can do just try to do this like practice is really good and then we can move on to the next step um guys please tell me in the comments what do you think do you like this kind of things um do you want uh more other stuff um i'm like really more doing the blues i do songs uh help me out here uh if you have other suggestions do you like it okay great uh i love it too and subscribe if you wanna want more of this and i'll see you in the next lesson folks take care you
