when teams draft young players some turn out to beat instant stars and live up to their potential right away but that's not always the case because others take a couple years to develop and unfortunately for these 10 teams they were too impatient and chose not to wait for their young stars so instead they traded them away only after a couple of seasons and then these 10 guys were going to live up to their potentials shortly after which left a lot of teams was a lot of regrets most of these teams were bad anyways and didn't need to make a trade right away but since they did that's on them which is why there's no reason to feel bad for them and real quick I got mentioned that of course is easier to say these were terrible decisions in hindsight but that's the point we're looking back at how bad these decisions were based on how that players turned out but with that all said let's get into it number one the Houston Rockets with montrezl Harrel montrezl was drafted by the Rockets in the second round in 2015 and for most of his time there he was being taken in that of a d-league when he did actually play for Houston though he put up these numbers in his rookie season and improved to these as a sophomore he made a lot of progress after his first offseason and that should have maybe been an indicator of how much work he'd continue to put in and the player that he'd become but for the Rockets it wasn't and they weren't in a position to develop young players because they had been trying to make moves for a championship and that's exactly what they did when they treated Harrell Pat Beverley role-players Lou Williams in a first-round pick for Chris Paul who really wanted to leave the Clippers anyways ignoring the rest of how horrible this tre turned out to be for them like I said at the time they didn't have time to develop montrezl harrell so they gave up on him but with how good he's turned out to be putting up sixteen and six off the bench just two years later I'm sure they've been having huge regrets especially since they were already exploring trading cp3 and what we're speaking of second overall picks we got another one with number two the Pistons and Chris Middleton there's not often too much hope for second-round picks which would explain why the Pistons traded Middleton after only his rookie season where he only played 27 games for them where he also bounced back and forth from the d-league but I mean they didn't even give Chris a chance before they treated him alongside Brandon Knight for Brandon Jennings I mean it's not like they were in a position to win anytime soon but they wanted a proven guard and instead Milwaukee may have seen the potential and Chris I mean he came out and from that point on he's been a starter and has gotten better every year and now as we've seen last year he averaged over 28 game and this year became an all-star and is a huge piece on a potential future championship team the Pistons haven't made very many great decisions over the past few years with their roster and trading Chris Middleton was just another example or speaking of a team that doesn't have a history of making good decisions that brings up number three with the New York Knicks and Tim Hardaway jr. I mean the Knicks drives Adam 24th overall and even while he was playing behind Iman Shumpert at first he was looking like a solid player in his first two seasons with the minutes he was getting but they wanted someone with more defense so they traded him for Jerry and grant on draft night to the Hawks grants gone on to average six points a game in his first four seasons while Hardaway jr. went on to the Hawks and even though he still got limited minutes when he did play he was able to prove himself as a top scorer with multiple twenty and the occasional 30 point games to the point where he averaged 14 a game off the bench for them in 2016 and 17 and proving the fact that the Knicks knew they gave up on him too early they then offered him a four-year seventy 1 million dollar offer sheet that Atlanta turned down so he was back on the next and averaged 18 a game in his second stint there as their starting shooting guard so we know for a fact that they know that they gave up on him too soon but it doesn't matter because they still traded him again this season to the Mavs to clear cap space number four the Pistons with Spencer Dinwiddie Spencer Dinwiddie today has quickly become one of the league's top bench players putting up nearly sixteen points four assists and two rebounds a game this season and heavenly being on that second unit played a huge part in than making the playoffs and if the Detroit Pistons didn't trade him after only his second year in the league maybe he could still be giving them that help they desperately need right now and this makes the second second round pick in two years that this team traded away where the players turned into near stars soon after and it's the same story didn't when he spent most of his time in the d-league with Detroit and never really got the chance to prove himself averaging four points and playing 46 games in his first two seasons in the league before getting traded for Cameron Barstow who the Pistons waived right after so they basically just got rid of Dinwiddie after never giving him a real chance and sure he didn't look like a great player bag of in but they gotta be doing a better job of scouting players potential because like I said this has happened twice and now at only 26 years old they've had to watch Dinwiddie as he's become one of the best bench players in the NBA number five the Thunder with James Hart we're not gonna spend time on this one because everyone knows it but we still had to mention it sure a hard and left for the money but there were things that could have been done differently that would have allowed him to stay in OKC so they gave up on him too soon number six the Bucks with Tobias Harris the Bucks ended up with Tobias Harris on draft night in 2011 and it doesn't look like they ever had any intentions of ever using him I mean there were already a bad team being led by Brandon Jennings at Monta Ellis so there was no real reason to not give him a chance but instead they only played him 11 minutes a game and consequently he averaged five points a game and instead of starting Harris the Bucks chose to start Mike Dunleavy and at best average row player for the box so then for once the Orlando Magic made a good move and traded JJ Redick and roll Clair's for Tobias Harris and roll players halfway through the season JJ never fit in Milwaukee and eventually got traded for two second-round picks while on the other hand immediately after the trade in the same season Tobias Harris went on to play 36 minutes a game putting up 17 and 8 and played at a similar pace for his next three seasons there the fact that the Bucks never gave him a chance and the second he gets to be Orlando Magic he quadruples his points rebounds and assists per game and triples his steals and blocks proves that they had no idea how much potential he had number seven the Rockets with Kyle Lowry now we aren't gonna blame the Houston Rockets for this one because they did give Kyle Lowry a chance and it works out much better that they did trade him but his game did go to the next level almost right after they traded them away now going back a little bit Lowry started his career on the Grizzlies and wasn't anything special so he got moved to the Rockettes for a few seasons where he started to develop into a solid all-around point guard where he put up his best season averaging 14 six and for his last season there before the Rockets like goring dragged it to take his place and treated him for Gary Forbes and our first-round pick now four months later that first-round pick would play a big part in getting James Harden traded to Houston which is why we can't blame them for trading Lowry and after they gave Kyle three and a half seasons where he was just an average point guard you can't blame Houston there either but in his second season on the Raptors he would turn things around an average of career-high 17 7 & 4 before becoming an all-star point guard for the next five seasons it also helps that Toronto has been the perfect fit for him but you get the point just because things worked out for Houston and they were better off doesn't mean that they didn't give up on Lowry too early and there's a similar situation for number 8 with the New Orleans pelicans and Buddy hield it's similar because just because the pelicans got the all-star DeMarcus Cousins in return for a deal revolving around healed doesn't mean they didn't give up on buddy too soon because they did especially seeing how things have worked out for both teams it is definitely safe to say that Buddy hield underachieved as a rookie only putting up eight points a game when he had some people believing he could be the Rookie of the Year but as they had been for years the pelicans were desperate to pair ad up with another star so they trade their former six overall pick to the Kings for their star player who only had one year left in his contract now cousins eventually got injured and New Orleans chose not to resign him but on the other hand but he immediately improved and put up 15 and 4 on 42% from three to finish out his sophomore season and as now averaged 25 and 2 on 43% from 3 this past year giving the Kings one of the best young back courts and young teams in the league while the pelicans are now gonna lose out on Anthony Davis and get Zion I mean what helped if they could be pairing a young Zion and Julius Randle with buddy hield going into next year number 9 the magic with Victor Oladipo I've talked about this trade in another video but we gotta talk about this aspect of it and how quickly they were led to magic gave up on all the Depot the team drafted big with the second overall pick in 2013 the guy that was really the best player coming into the league that year and it's not like Viktor underperformed or anything he was putting up eighteen four and four in his second season and was the team's best defender and his production only dropped slightly the year after he was definitely on the right track to becoming an all-star but after his third season the magic traded him and de Montes a bonus for the 27 year old serge ibaka they were a 35 and 47 team with Tobias Harris Evan Fournier Nicole elusive itch and Aaron Gordon on the roster all young players and they thought it was a good idea to trade their 25 year old former second overall pick for Ibaka it's not like he was a superstar that was gonna turn this team around so it was clear that they gave up on Victor Oladipo way too soon because then as we know Serge only played there for one season the magic are still terrible and Victor has been an all-star and one of the best shooting guards in the league for the past two seasons with the Pacers number 10 the Lakers with Julius Randle the only way Julius Randle ever got to New Orleans and proved himself was by the Lakers giving him away for salary space and Randall's a future all-star if things keep going out a half for him he put up a great sixteen and eight in his last season in LA before he signed with the pelicans this year and put up 21 eight and three all while coming off the bench for a half the season Magic Johnson's come out and said that he led a walk because he wouldn't have benefit with LeBron and because Randle wanted a two-year deal when they could only offer him one which is because they wanted opens outer space and with how things are looking he may have been the best I'm gonna get in that role especially for the amount he's getting paid and while we're on the subject the Lakers also gave up the Angela Russell too soon but magic also said that the trade was because of the Nick Young situation which is fair and I mean you don't turn down the chance to sign LeBron but with everything is caused it's looking like it might have been better just to not sign him they could have a young core of Jordan Clarkson Larry Nance Jr Lonzo ball Brandon Ingram Kyle Kuzma and Julius Randle but after some trades are made this offseason instead the only guaranteed player they'll have on their roster is a 35 year old James number 11 the Timberwolves with zach lavine there was a point in time not too long ago where the Minnesota Timberwolves had or looked like they had one of the brightest futures with a young big three of Zach Lavine Andrew Wiggins and karl-anthony towns and this is a trade that still doesn't make much sense I mean first off the trade did not only Zach Lavine but the pick that would become Lowrey marking and and Chris Dunn to the Bulls in exchange for Jimmy Butler while Jimmy was 27 in his prime and Townes was 21 and Wiggins was 22 it made no sense to use up future assets to try to win now when two of your three best players are under 23 years old and the vine was 22 him putting up 19 points a game at this time sure he had just gone down with an injury but the temporals were in no rush to get better and we see the situation there and now while on the other hand Zach lavine's only got better since his injury and is now averaging 23 for and 4 for Chicago and we're not even mentioning Larry mark Annette this terrible move alone cost Minnesota one of the brightest futures in the league as a team and to potential future all-stars and it's not like they couldn't see it coming with how good Lavine was gonna be he helps put on one of the best dunk contests ever was as athletic as anyone in the league was proving that he could score and develop every season a terrible move by The Temper Wolves looking back in hindsight and even looking at it at the time it took place and I'm sure this video was hard to watch for some fans and great to watch for others but either way don't blame me blame your team drop a like subscribe and I'll catch you next video [Music]
