backstory of the boondocks are you a die-hard fan are you just curious what all the hypes about no matter which level you're at we've got you covered so get ready because we're counting down the 107 facts that you should know about the boondocks let's get started number one the boondocks began in 1996 as a syndicated daily comic strip by Aaron McGruder originally conceptualized it as a television show but decided to start smaller and work his way up number two Magruder originally hails from Chicago and after several moves ended up living in a predominantly white suburban Maryland this became the inspiration for the Freeman's main plot in the boondocks number three he jokes at many articles cite different ages at which he left Chicago but on the record Magruder says he was only there when he was about a year old and did not spend a significant amount of time in the inner city number four in 1997 Magruder attended a convention of the National Association of Black Journalists where he met Harriet choice the vice-president of Universal press syndicate who was scouting minority Talent not long after Magruder provided some samples of his work Universal press syndicates signed a
