this is our newest hula culture bed which we built for free and I'm going to show you how we did it [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] I'm going to attempt to pull these out backwards so that I can see what I'm doing [Music] [Applause] yeah [Music] I'm obviously all about doing things the easy way [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] alright that was one only 11 more to go [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] which out [Music] yeah [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] what a difference a day makes weather sure can change from day to day this time of year morning yesterday was crazy and snowing and yucky so I'm gonna get to feeding the chicks and the chickens and then I'm going to start digging on that bed [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] I just have to get in it and make sure everything's okay oh yeah where you going what I'm building here is a Hoover culture bed we got a couple nice days the snow is melting spring conditions and I got to chomping at the bit want to get out here and get these things built I'm gonna build two of them another one right over there and then I'm probably just gonna plant a tree in the middle in between them in place dugout now I'm going to get rotted dead and rotting trees branches some leaf mold compost gonna mix it all up build it right up and throw the dirt back on top of it start planting [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] it's mean here you and help me beds yes we do ok so what we're doing is digging up the dirt with our shovels and throwing it in the garden bed [Music] in theory the rotting wood mass is going to absorb and retain a lot of moisture this will help prevent it from drying out so fast it's basically a giant nutrient sponge through the miracle of time the wood mass in organic matter will break down releasing nutrients to feed the plants naturally it will break down and settle and I will just keep adding organic material to it compost lawn clippings woodchips if mold you know there's no shortage of organic material here on the homestead so we just keep building it up after a few years of this process we should have a bed that is a nutrient-rich environment for plants that basically maintains itself it'll water itself it'll feed itself all we have to do is add some more organic material to it every year so hopefully that works out before I close this video out I'm going to show you guys the food forest real quick we put it in last year and it is a combination of hygge culture and Garden of Eden techniques I'm really excited to see the results hopefully they're good ones I hope you guys like this video and thank you for watching I'll talk to you later [Music]
