10 Times Alaska Went Terribly Wrong!

[Music] number 10 the eyeball jason barnum also known as the eyeball is a perfect example of when alaska goes wrong according to anchorage police department chief mark mew this is a guy who decided long ago that his life was going to be about being hostile to people this goes back to his nickname the eyeball which he earned after getting the white of his right eye tattooed completely black this is a terrifying individual who looks exactly like the kind of person you don't want to see in the dark alley at night he was recently in court in alaska where he pleaded guilty to shooting an alaskan police officer and was sentenced to spend 22 years in jail shooting a cop is not something you're supposed to do in alaska but then again most people know that according to the court the eyeball already had 14 convictions before he shot and murdered officer daniel thayen back in 2012. the shooting happened when police were investigating a series of burglaries the eyeball was cornered by officer thyan in the bathroom of a hotel at which point the eyeball opened fire and gunned down the cop number nine bear costume antics a man in a bear costume has gotten into a bit of trouble after harassing a mother bear and her two cubs in alaska authorities don't know who this guy is but they're desperately trying to track him down the mischief maker dressed in a realistic bear costume then walked straight up to a mother bear and her two cubs who were in the middle of hunting salmon in an alaska river a crowd gathered to watch what this wacko was doing though nobody could figure out just what exactly he was trying to accomplish he got at least five feet in front of the cubs seemingly wanting nothing more than to terrorize them a technician with alaska fish and game asked what his name was and in response he said you have my license plate you figure it out the man then got into his vehicle and drove off without ever taking off the costume troopers are now looking for this lunatic who could potentially be charged with animal abuse for his ridiculous stunt number eight iliamna lake monster the lake ilyamna lake monster is a perfect example of why you should probably never go swimming in alaska this aquatic monster allegedly lives in the lake outside the small alaskan fish village of ilyamna tales of the creature go back to the days before europeans ever lived in the area the natives tell tales of a huge beast that roams the lake up to 30 feet long with a square head its head is kind of like a battering ram which it has supposedly used to smash apart small boats there is no physical evidence as of right now that the monster exists but an almost ultimate number of sightings throughout the years is proof enough for many in fact the iliamna lake monster is so famous that even the animal planet tried to track the thing down though they did unfortunately fail one of the theories put forth by river monster star jeremy wade is that the beast is really a giant white sturgeon a fish that grows to be over 20 feet in length more than 1500 pounds and over 100 years old number 7. alaskan beer thief a man in alaska wanted beer so bad that he crashed his car through the front door of a local brewery the retail store for the alaskan brewery company suffered 15 000 in damages when a man from juneau drove straight through the front doors and helped himself to some free beer the brewery spokesperson ashley johnston said the incident happened around five o'clock in the morning the guy managed to steal a few kegs and a couple of 12 cases this wasn't really that much beer with the front door costing significantly more to replace luckily the beer thief didn't get far juno police tracked the guy down later the same day and recovered most of the beer a guy named michael ray was charged for the crime arrested for burglary in the second degree and theft in the third degree oh yeah and he got busted with vehicle theft too because the car he used to break through the brewery was also stolen number six gun malfunction an alaska trooper found himself in the worst situation possible when his firearm malfunctioned in the middle of a shootout it was a total disaster from the very beginning the trooper was trying to serve an arrest warrant outside a general store in anchor point when the criminal pulled out a gun and opened fire on the police his name is brett herrick 60 years old he really did not want to go to jail during the shootout herrick shot at two police officers with a 45 caliber handgun he struck officer brookman multiple times in the chest and one in the upper left arm luckily his ballistic vest stopped the majority of the damage though he was left with his arm mangled when brookman tried to shoot back his weapon malfunctioned and he couldn't fire he had no choice but to let the criminal go and desperately seek medical attention but don't worry officer brookman made a full recovery and brett herrick was arrested the next day and charged with attempted murder number five drunk on the runway a 28 year old woman named mary elizabeth sommers was arrested after driving her car onto an active runway at the fairbanks international airport in a shocking show of pure stupidity the drunk woman plastered out of her mind drove off the east ramp on the way to the airport then hit the runway and started following aircrafts that were trying to take off it was a total catastrophe the airport police quickly intervened and stopped the ford focus before it drove straight into the tail end of an airplane the woman was pulled out of the vehicle apparently so drunk that she told the airport police she had no idea where she was and to make matters even more disturbing there was a sleeping infant in the back seat and the whole car was filled with marijuana smoke mary elizabeth salmers is obviously not going to be winning any parenting awards in the near future she was charged with drunk driving reckless driving and endangering the welfare of a minor it's really the baby part that boggles the mind as this woman was literally so wasted that she didn't realize she was driving on a runway with a child in the back seat number four murder for hire in alaska roger keeling got busted for not only stalking his ex-girlfriend but also for devising a plot to get her killed be warned this guy is a total nut job in 2020 he got in trouble for strangling his girlfriend and telling her that he would rip her heart out and then burn her house down after the incident he was given a misdemeanor a soul charge and then allowed to walk free his terrified ex-girlfriend was afraid for her life and got a restraining order against him but here's where the system really failed this poor girl as roger keeling was arrested multiple times over the next six weeks for stalking the woman and breaking the restraining order each time he was allowed back out he slashed her tires he sent her threatening emails and he left her disturbing notes that he had written by hand finally he was arrested on charges of stalking six months after he first strangled his ex-girlfriend while in police custody he told a cellmate he was trying to find someone to kill his girlfriend for money keeling then made arrangements with the cellmate to pay fifteen hundred dollars to a stranger to ever killed after he was released he made an upfront payment of 500 in the end keeling's plot was busted wide open by the alaska state troopers he's now facing five years for stalking and 10 years for trying to have his girlfriend killed at least the woman can now rest safe without looking over her shoulder at least for 15 years she can number three alaskan hijacking a passenger was arrested after he commandeered a small plane the plane had been on its way to a community in western alaska called antiac this place is so remote that the only transportation between there and the rest of the civilization is this small airplane a cessna caravan it was carrying six passengers a full load when one of them lost his marbles his name has been withheld though the authorities did say he was only 18 years old at the time of the incident he had asked the pilot if he could fly the plane earlier in the flight but he had been denied then when they were only five miles from the local airport he burst into the cockpit and took control of the plane's steering wheel the plane did an immediate nose dive he probably wasn't trying to crash the plane but may have been mentally unstable and was desperate to get behind the controls the captain managed to get the steering wheel back and corrected the plane while the other passengers restrained the kid the whole reason he was able to get into the cockpit is because there's no barrier between the pilot and the passengers in this type of small aircraft when they finally touched down the kid was arrested and taken away number two attack of the river otter at a duck pond in east anchorage tiffany fernandez and her two sons were playing with some other kids on wednesday evening everything was perfectly ordinary everyone was having a good time and there was no danger in sight but then a group of river otters swam into the pond and attacked the children one of the otters charged directly at tiffany's nine-year-old kid the otter then tried to tear her child limb from limb he was left with bite marks deep scratches all over his back and legs and not to mention seriously traumatized the poor kid is now going to have scars from an otter attack for the rest of his life tiffany has described the mortifying incident as a warning to other people in the alaskan community look out for otters because they eat your children and number one the satan worshipers a teen mom from alaska is a cold-blooded murderer you might have heard her name before miranda barber she was arrested after luring a man named troy laferreira to his death using craigslist she had posted an ad on craigslist promising companionship for a small fee of only a hundred dollars miranda met troy in the parking lot of a local mall but little detroit know miranda's husband was hiding under a blanket in the back seat his name is elliott barber and at the time they had been married for only three weeks at this point miranda pulled a knife from her pocket and stabbed troy in the chest she then stabbed him again 20 times in total with the help of her husband they then dumped the bloody body and went to check out a strip club miranda and her husband were not the sharpest tools in the shed elliot had left behind his cell phone in the strip club and they were both arrested just days later upon miranda's arrest she admitted to killing an additional 22 people most of them while living in alaska and while police have never confirmed the story her father did tell a reporter that he believes she may have killed someone while living in his home in alaska it's also true that while in alaska she joined a
