different areas that you can come visit and sightsee while you're in detroit and if you stay to the end i'll give you my favorite one last [Music] what's going on everybody my name is ed butler with brookstone realtors for those of you who are new to the channel i make videos just like this one every week on what it's like to live eat sleep work and play in metro detroit if you want to learn more about detroit or metro detroit make sure you go ahead and hit that subscribe button for me and tap the notification bell so you don't miss out any videos i put out i'm also a full-time realtor and i help people move within the state or to the state every single month so feel free to reach out if you ever thought about moving to detroit or moving within detroit i love to have your back on your home buying or selling journey and with that said let's hop into the list the first stop on this tour is going to have to be bellow this is a major detroit focal point one of the proudest things that we're known for here in metro detroit the park was actually designed in the 1880s by fredrik olmsted this is the same designer that did central park in new york but fun fact the island is actually 982 acres so it's actually larger than central park in new york some cool things to do on belle isle is to visit the aquarium the nature center sunset point the james scott memorial fountain golf course conservatory and then they also host pretty much every summer the detroit grand prix that's indycar racing for any of you carved racing fans and also a fun fact that i didn't actually know was still working but the giant slide is still listed on the website that is working and if you grew up in detroit or from detroit then you probably have some fun or not so fond memories of the giant slide you go down up this huge slide you get on a little rug carpet or whatnot and slide all the way down it feels like it's a hundred feet up in the air or something like that and if your leg so happens to come off that carpet then you're gonna have the burn market prove it moving down the list is gonna be three of them that i kind of combine into one because they're all in the same area and if you're visiting one you can visit all three of them at the same time so the first one is going to be the spirit of detroit which is a 26-foot statue built of a man holding this fear in his left hand which symbolizes god and then holding a family in his right hand which symbolizes human interaction in human relationship this statue debuted in 1958 and has been a main staple of detroit culture anytime one of our sports teams are in the playoffs and anything like that they always put a jersey on the side of them it's always cool to see them with the red rings jersey alliance jersey hopefully or a uh tigers jersey or whatnot and even during our championship run he dawned the piston jersey just a few steps from that is another polarizing figure and that's going to be the joe lewis fists so this is going to be about 24 foot long and then 24 foot tall being the structure that holds it in place defense is built in the image of the boxer joe lewis who is a detroit native who did a lot of work during the jim crow era trying to fight racism and the fist is supposed to be a symbol of fighting racism within the city then you cross the street right across the street from the fist you're going to stumble across hart plaza hart plaza is said to be the place where the french first landed on their discovery of detroit in 1701 or de tois they would have caught it back then now it's home to some of the coolest festivals that we have in detroit every single year a lot of music arts and food festivals are held there in hart plaza as well as our annual fireworks so you go ahead and go down there and gather around inside of hart plaza with a whole bunch of other detroiters overlooking the detroit river and they sell off the fireworks and it's always an amazing sight to see moving ahead we got another spot downtown that's going to be campus marshes park and cadillac square park these two are like tied together at the hip so they're pretty much the same area um or that's what you're pretty much going to feel like when you're walking down so this area is really known for is in the winter you can go ice skating they turn the entire park into an ice skating rink where you can go ahead and rent your skates and get out there with your family a date or just go out there for a good time by yourself and enjoy ice skating in the summers you can walk around with the nice outdoor seating areas have coffee shops and restaurants in close proximity or walk your dog to some of the dog parks that's located nearby and sit back and relax and catch in some of the views of the beautiful historic building that surrounds it now for you history buffs it wouldn't be trait without music and this next spot is going to be the motown museum or hitchville usa as it used to be called this is the site of the first motown records headquarters it was purchased by barry gordy in 1959 and it was home to some of the most prominent artists of their entire generation who were assigned to this label in the 60s extremely famous artists like diana ross the temptations the jackson 5 marvin gaye stevie wonder just to name a few all were signed to motown record label at the same time and today you can go and visit this historic place most days throughout the week they have the music playing for a small fee you can go in and see some of the memorabilia of history like michael jackson's gloves one of his hats diana rush's dresses and the list goes on now heading back towards downtown area is going to be the gm rent center or the renaissance center as it's more effectively caused by most detroiters only seven connected towers that are actually owned by general motors now but it's still open to the public general motors uses it as its headquarters but then it also opens it up to the public for cool things like the gm winter garden which is a cool place where you can just go down there taking the views of the detroit river uh relax they sometimes have you know like artists or performances down there as well as when we had the super bowl here that's where the media day took place then you can go on up a couple levels and get to the gm world where they showcase all the new products from general motors and this is where i first saw the new corvette that just launched not too long ago and it's really awesome to stop in there and see all the new cars that's coming out and if you're not looking into taking the sites like that go ahead and go have dinner in there they have andiamo's joe mara seafood and a ton of other restaurants within the building and you can have a good old time or a nice date now once you're done touring all the sights and stuff in the morning you can go and head down to this next spot which is going to be the greek town entertainment district so you may be staying at greek town casino in this hotel or you're just taking in the sights and you're going ahead and gambling and testing your luck down that great town or you can head out to casino and enjoy some of the authentic greek cuisine that's down there or if greek's not food is not your thing go ahead and check out any other food places that are right down there they're all really top-notch then after your belly's full go ahead and enjoy some of the bars that are down here local staples like floods or old shelleys are always a good time to get the night started and if you're feeling really adventurous go ahead and make it trip down the level 2 rooftop bar for a night club now as i foreign mentioned before detroit we're really big on our sports right so detroit is one of the few major cities that have all four major sports teams in their downtown so make sure if you're planning a trip that you carve out some time to go catch a football game basketball game hockey or even baseball and those are all going to be housed at ford field little caesar arena which is a brand new facility that just got built orc america park and if you plan your trip really well you may be able to catch maybe two or three games in the single day that's most likely to happen in october if you're trying to plan to do so in addition to that make sure you carve out a little bit of time if you're catching the lions game to head out to the eastern market this is where the majority of the tailgate is going to happen and it's always a good time to go ahead and enjoy have a few beverages and have fun with detroiters check out some art down there get some great food from the farmers market and then head on down to four field to catch the game these are just some of my top favorites but there's so much more to offer in detroit and to go see in detroit i missed out on a bunch of other ones that were really cool and interesting to see that you should stop by and check out when you come here to detroit make sure you go ahead and hit the subscribe button tap the notification bell so you don't miss out on any of the videos i put out which will be outlined in some of those new places that didn't get to mention in this video and as always if you're looking to make a move to michigan or within michigan feel free to give me a call text email whatever works for you and i love to have your back on your home buying or selling journey and with that i catch you on the next one
