hey everyone okay so i was recently contacted by a company called kent faith also known as k and f concept to do a review of their filter kit it's the k and f sn25t1 now full disclosure this is a completely unpaid review but i did receive the product for free so make of that as you will i don't really use graduated filters because i prefer to just shoot two frames and then blend them in post however i do use neutral density filters such as a 10 stop um just because you can't replicate what a neutral density filter can do in post anyway it looks really good like i wasn't expecting it so it comes in this sleeve and you get two boxes inside it first box is the filter holder and the adapter ring and the second box is the square filters i don't know what's in this yet i haven't actually had a look so i'm looking a bit the box is really nice it comes in it's sort of like magnetized so it snaps open and inside we have the the filter holder let's quickly talk about the filter hold i mean it just feels really nice so it feels like solid it has what i would expect to see on other sorts of filter holders so it looks like the um the actual ring this bit around the edge is made of metal or like a metal composite and then it looks like the the actual filter holders are made of like a plastic um with a bit of a flexible bit in the middle then it's got like a felted sticker around the edge of the frame presumably stops your filter from getting scratched on the metal on the back we have like a little latch this is so that you slot it into the filter adapter and then you press this to put it in and then lock it in place i'm i'm genuinely excited to get out and use this um let's see what else we have in the box okay and inside we have the adapters these are just as many different adapter rings all right so we have eight adapters in total this is a canon 17-40 and we have a 77 mil filter ring so that's what i'm going to be looking for yeah 77 mil so it feels quite good um again it feels like a sort of a metal composite and looking at the filter thread i'm not an expert but it seems pretty good that the truth is going to be in the testing so let's see if we can screw this on reasonably easy that went on quite smoothly didn't feel like it was biting or getting sort of stuck so that's a good sign and let's see how the filter holder actually connects to the camera there we go it feels pretty sturdy i'm i'm pulling it with a fair amount of force here it's not going to come off if i was going to be using some really expensive filters you know sometimes if you're pointing the camera down i've heard stories of like the the lee filters one of the lead filters filter holder like fell off i mean i'm pulling this quite hard and it's just not going anywhere um and really easy to take off as well i know i've never used like a really high-end filter set but so far i'm impressed by the design of this now it doesn't have uh by the looks of things it doesn't have space to put on like a circular polarizer um and it doesn't have more than sort of two filter holders if i'm ever going to use a filter i'm probably going to max out at one so let's take a look at the actual filter in here is i don't know what's in here actually because i haven't opened it yet we'll have a look this feels really nice looking at it i don't know if this is real leather it doesn't smell like real leather but it has got stitching around the side which is just nice it just looks the part let's see so it's like a magnetized opener okay so it says to pull on the rope so inside it feels like a suede or like a faux suede pull on the rope here that's pretty cool actually okay all right so here we have a 10 stop neutral density filter so i actually have two 10 stop neutral density filters already i have a gobi which is a screw on neutral density filter and i also have b and w 77 mil screw on neutral density filter so it's got quite a kind of like a green color cast there let's just slide it in so just slot it into the bottom there i immediately notice that the filter is slightly smaller than the diameter of the filter holder so the filter holder is you know this big here and that the filter itself is actually slightly smaller this might be a problem because um light could get in in between that sort of uh that felt lining around the edge and the top there but again i just don't know so we're actually gonna have to try a try it out let's actually go and use it because we don't know anything until we go and use it so i will see you in a second so hey everyone i've stood precariously on the edge of a cliff at the uh the famous door my first shot is just it's just a classic radius it's kind of the in dirt or door shop that everyone gets it's just a leading line in the grass leading into the actual door and then just a bit of blurriness where the uh the waves are crashing the beach is really basic but it's just such an iconic scene that it's always just pleasant to come and get it so it was my plan to come to la worth cove and then walk up to moop beach and take some shots of rocks with sunset but the path is closed due to the landslide and i don't think there's another way to get there so my plans have been scuppered so we're just going to take a walk up to the top of lobworth cove and maybe get some shots up there a bit of a disappointment to be honest nevermind there's always another opportunity so i didn't quite get to moop beach and the uh the rocks didn't you have to see over there but we did find another nice composition just down in low worth cove essentially what you have is there's this kind of like bay the water's being pushed through and what happens is as the water comes towards you with the long exposure it's sort of blending in and it's pulling you through that entryway so it's really nice it's quite a dynamic image not a hundred percent what i was hoping to get i'm gonna get the shots home i'm gonna compare them maybe we've got a couple of nice images who knows all right let's get home i shot a couple of frames yesterday and spoiler alert i'm pleasantly surprised by the quality of the k f concept 10 stop nd filter i'm going to be looking at a few key points while comparing these filters density as in does this filter block out exactly 10 times the amount of light color cast an increase or decrease in contrast sharpness and finally looking to see if the filter intrudes into the image by way of vignetting light leaking or any other defects all of the images were shot at the same iso aperture focal length and color temperature of 60 50k and have received no post processing other than exporting to jpeg first up is a classic shot of dirdl door these images are taken with the canon eos r and the canon ef 24 to 70 mil f4l is usm at 24 mil and this lens does vignette quite heavily at 24 mil let's take a look at the control image shot at iso 100 f8 and 1 100th of a second is a nice clean image sharp the greens are a little muted but we're basically shooting into the sun here and notice the vignetting in the corners too all right so the first filter on the list is the gobi shot at iso 100 f8 with a 10 second exposure at which is 10 stops less than 100th of a second i would say it looks about a half a stop darker and i don't really see any noticeable color cast or contrast issues with regards to sharpness unfortunately i can't test sharpness on any of these images as they've all come out slightly blurry either this is because my tripod wasn't totally still as it was really windy or i knocked the focus ring it does look like it's increased the vignette but it may also be because it's a touch darker than 10 stops okay next up is the b and w so before i present this image it's worth noting that this is a standalone 90 pound filter and the gobi is around 35 pounds this was shot at iso 100 f 8 with a 10 second exposure again the b w is darker but i would say even more so over the gobi probably a full stop here the bmw filter causes the image to be much warmer in color temperature but there's no noticeable contrast issues and again i'm not looking at sharpness here again it looks to have a vignette but i'm not sure if this is due to the filter obstructing the lens or if it's just dark and exacerbated the issue last but not least the k f concept bear in mind this entire kit adapter rings filter holder and filter costs around 50 pounds unfortunately as i took this photo the sun lit up quite significantly so we can't really judge density here but the color contrast looks non-existent and there seems to be no discernible issues with contrast there doesn't seem to be any more vignetting than what already occurs on the lens itself but otherwise it's a very clean image and honestly i'm really impressed next up is a shot down in a bay by lol with cove this time on the canon eos r and the canon ef 17 to 40 mil f4 l usm at 17 millimeters on these shots we're going to be looking at color cast and sharpness specifically here's a control shot iso 200 f 8 and 1 160th of a second first up is the gobi i messed up the exposure a bit with these images 10 stops exactly is 6 seconds while this shot was a 10 second exposure the sharpness here looks stellar no discernible issues with sharpness and again no issues with color cast it's possible the filter causes a slight cooling to color temperature but it could also be the sun going behind the cloud that caused this a slight vignetting is apparent but not too much to worry about next up we have the bmw this time it's shot at 20 seconds to offset this filters in precise density again insane color cast and this time it feels like the magenta this filter introduces more apparent to offset this we need to adjust color temperature and turn quite dramatically comparing the sharpness to the gobi it does feel like the bmw is sharper if i were to be nitpicky and again vignetting is apparent finally it's the k and f shot 20 seconds again as the sun was going down quite quickly sharpness looks to be roughly the same as a gobi maybe slightly sharper but it's almost imperceptible not much color cast similarly to the gobi it feels slightly cooler but it may just be due to the sun going down and again no vignetting apparent and even more important is this because this is a 17 mil wide angle lens sometimes a filter holder can intrude into the frame and cause this lens to be unusable at its widest this is absolutely not the case here you cannot see any issues of the filter intruding into the frame [Music] [Music] do [Music] [Music] all right back from dorset um having spent a bit of time in the field with this filter set i can say with complete sincerity that i'm really genuinely impressed with it it's legitimately a great value bit of kit so i think it's important to think about this set within sort of two contexts firstly in a vacuum and secondly within its price range in a vacuum you know if you could pick any single filter set any filter holder to get would i recommend this one probably not the main reason being it just doesn't have the same modularity that other filter holders have so you know it's very it's very basic and it connects to your camera you can fit two filters and you can move it around that's that's kind of it if you think about other filter holders with the ability to add like a circular polarizer to be able to move it and lock it in place to have one filter like this and the other filter like that um it just doesn't have the same modularity but in the context of within its price range would i recommend this without a shadow of a doubt yes so let's let's get one thing straight here for 50 pounds you get eight adapter rings you get your filter holder and you get a 100 millimeter by 100 millimeter 10 stop neutral density filter and a snazzy little case for it to go in um that's that's ridiculously good value so let's compare that to the the famous lee filter holder set it's it's 41 pounds for a 67 mil adapter ring designed for wide angle lenses it's 80 pounds for the lee filter holder and it's 96 pounds for the 10 stop uh their big stopper filter so that's 217 pounds um and you don't even get eight adapter rings you only get the one i could very easily make the argument to buy the more expensive filter set if the k f concept was bad but it's not it's it's really good and and likewise i could make the argument to get the more expensive you know the more expensive nd filter if the k f nd filter was bad but again it's really good comparing the um the k f concept filter um to the more expensive filters was actually quite eye opening i've always been of the opinion that if you buy cheap you buy twice so when i first bought a new 10 stop neutral density filter i got the bmw because i was like well why would you use an expensive lens and a cheap filter that's like putting vegetable oil in your ferrari right so i got the expensive one um but i'm actually second guessing that decision now because both the gobi and the knf concept had significantly less color cast um when compared to the bmw um and the bmw's density is just not accurate this isn't a 10 stop filter it's probably like an 11 stop filter i've always i've always had to overexpose to get a balanced exposure with this but the k f and the gobi they just seem to be a bit more accurate look i could i could ramble all day about how impressed i am with this selection of kit you know if you did want the modularity that the lead filter holder provides then obviously get the lead filter holder but let's try and wrap it up shall we if you're looking for a filter holder set and a 10 stop filter and you don't foresee yourself wanting to you know use a circular polarizer inside this then this this k f concept is insanely good value i mean that with complete sincerity i i'm kind of i'm still a bit smacked that it is the price that it is um and i'm i keep trying to find out what the catch is you know um and i can't find it like the filter holder it feels like it feels good quality like i feel like i'm not gonna break this it it snaps onto the um the adapter ring and it ain't coming off the filter itself it doesn't affect sharpness at least that i could see the cut there is basically no color cast um it doesn't affect contrast etc etc it just feels like it has no right to be as good as it is for the price that you pay is what i'm trying to say i i highly recommend it as a set i i i'm going to be using this because it is it is genuinely really good anyway i hope you've enjoyed the review just to reiterate this isn't a paid review but i did receive the filter set from knf concept for free so uh bear that in mind um if you'd like to
