if insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results then what does that make acting doing take after take in the hope of perfection might well be a far better definition of Madness with the long hours the pages of dialogue and in the case of Star Trek the interminable technobabble it is little wonder that the actors slip up from time to time these gaffes come much to the Delight of fans who can kick back and enjoy the usually composed cast of characters as they corpse and cavort flub and Flounder and even pull pranks on their fellow players Star Trek has blessed us with these very human hiccups and hijinks for decades Gene Roddenberry originally showed blooper reels of the original series at conventions in the 1970s for the Next Generation the bloopers have until recently been closely guarded or even rumored purposefully destroyed most were only officially released on Blu-ray but they were worth the wait those for Voyager and Deep Space Nine whilst they do exist remain rarer than a Donovan bedtime story Enterprise was quite generous with its outtakes and Discovery has already given us a behind the scenes laugh or two so whether you call them outtakes the gag rail blunders Bloomers flubs gas howlers or bloopers here are a few which you absolutely must see and that's an order so with that in mind I'm Ellie with track culture here with 10 Star Trek bloopers you need to see number 10. if you say so Mr Spock the blooper reel for the original series now available in its entirety online is a zany Delight for any fan the original series bloopers were originally put together simply for the private enjoyment of the cast and crew at rap parties until Jean Roddenberry began to show them at conventions in fact the reels were made from discarded outtakes rescued from dumpsters outside Paramount Leonard Nimoy also tried and failed to prevent them from ever being shown publicly the reels were often a highlight of Star Trek conventions in the 1970s and 1980s they were also distributed by fans for years on bootleg video and audio tapes they weren't released professionally until 1997. the outtakes are narrated in mockumentary style while some of the humor is now certainly outdated there are quite a few gems amongst the clips of the actors walking straight into doors that don't open we see someone pretending to shovel coal in engineering and William Shatner jokingly grabbing mud by the mustache part way through we get a classic slip up from Nimoy from the episode this side of paradise the plants act as a suppository he gives us before returning to one of his famed lollipops for consolation there are delightful moments from Nichelle Nichols such as when she replies to Nimoy if you say so Mr Spock sugar in a moment that was also shown in the documentary For the Love of Spock we also see a young Adam Nimoy's visit to set surprising his father on the bridge with an adorable oh hello Daddy number 9. Captain Octopus head we all know that Anson Mount as Christopher Pike was the best thing about Star Trek Discovery season 2. he then delighted Us in the role in the first season of strange new worlds if you loved him already you'll be practically besotted when you've seen his gags and bloopers one little blunder comes from the beginning of the Season 2 Discovery episode Saints of imperfection Spock has lost his razor and Gone full on Star feet fugitive perhaps as a result Discovery catches up with him and hails his shuttle Mount delivers the line Lieutenant Spock this is Captain Spike he takes a moment to chuckle to himself at the era and we love him even more in another blooper from season 2 Mount accidentally reveals Pike's detailed knowledge of the 24th century when he asked saru to keep working on it Mr Data turning to the camera mount simply says I'm a fan as Doug Jones and sinequa Martin green double over and as if that wasn't enough Mount magnificence when he departs in Discovery as Captain in the episode such sweet sorrow part 1. the actor uses the moment to play a little joke on his fellow cast members Pike is going to need a replacement right who shall it be not Burnham not suru but Captain Octopus head of course Mount Ventures to the back of the set to fetch the as yet unnamed Oz nullus that's the species apparently you know she was in the mix he jokes but the difference between the three of you was sense of humor we might have to agree with him there let's all campaign for that tentacular spin-off in any case number eight full meme ahead if you can go viral without turning everyone into prehistoric d-evolved monsters you're probably onto a winner that is at least the case for a selection of bloopers from the Next Generation which have created more memes than there have been 502 errors on the Holodeck one of the best comes from the episode booby trap the one where Geordie definitely had a meeting with HR after the fact on a side note if you've not seen the Picard song video then what are you doing here stop go watch come back When laforge Calls the bridge to inform them that he's found a way to extend the antimatter supplies Riker must congratulate him but in the blooper Jonathan Frakes flubs the line much to his dismay Patrick Stewart reacts with childlike Glee letting out his silent Giggle and planting his hand firmly on the side of his face for full effect it is this moment that has had the meme treatment they go for another take and Frakes only makes it halfway through the line Jordy can you give us a his eyes wide open at his own stumble Frakes tries to duck down beneath the camera but a chuckling Stewart falls back to catch him as he does it's a miracle they ever escaped that acetone assimilator trap we're just glad for the meme that keeps on giving number 7. Woe Is Wharf poor old Wharf he was the first Klingon to serve in Starfleet and yet most of his ideas were shot down in Shakespeare online you can find entire compilations of wolf just being told no the character was beloved however enough to Warrant some inter-series mingling and the actor who played the role Michael Dawn has certainly provided us with some fabulous outtakes there are numerous of dawn from season 2 in which he flubs his lines drops the F-bomb to the amusement of the rest of the cast corpses and desperately tries to clear his throat before a take a cup of water for Michael please he even tries his best to join in with a rendition of the Irish song Fill the flute his ball with Gene Roddenberry Barry Ingham and Patrick Stewart there is one Michael Dawn blooper that stands out above all the rest as a near perfect slip of the tongue moment it is once more from the filming of the episode booby trap during the scene in which Picard data and War for preparing to beam over to the thousand-year-old premiere vessel Picard makes the parallel with the past time of building ships in bottles but gets no response from the others he asks good Lord did anyone here build ships in bottles when they were boys the correct Wharf line in reply is I did not play with toys but in the outtake Dawn utters the unforgettable I never played with boy the cast and crew descend in two fits of laughter the season 3 Next Generation gagril also provides us with certain hilarious outtakes from Whoopi Goldberg who swears more than Kirsten Clancy on Captain Picard day number six the one with the humpback Nails it looks like the cast of Star Trek 4 The Voice age home had a whale of a Time on set you can boo that one if you want so if George and Gracie are about let's dive into the depths of the outtakes and if you don't like them well then that sucks to be you in one blooper Nichelle Nichols clearly has some static on the line as she stumbles over a piece of dialogue on the Klingon bird of prey properly Admiral I am receiving whale song the line nickels does give in one take I am receiving hail storms has the cast and crew laughing along with her the film was directed by and starred Leonard Nimoy who clearly took good nature Delight in teasing William Shatner whenever the latter made a gaffe this is evident in an outtake of the scene in which Kirk pleads guilty on behalf of the others to the Federation Council instead Shatner accidentally pleads not guilty and Nimoy pokes fun at his confusion Shanna and Nimoy evidently had even more fun filming the scene at the San Francisco bus stop just what do you think they were looking for at the citation Institute at Social Toledo a pair of humpback nails of course at least in Shatner's flub of the line that's what they're looking for we are then treated to a sort of improv comedy sketch from the pair as they step onto the first bus someone screams loudly before they get back off Nimoy delivers the memorable line what does it mean exact change which is normally the last of the scene in the outtake Nimoy and Shatner continue to riff off of each other in character as to their coinbase conundrum number five this one's going to be full Shatner a certain band of Kelvin counterparts have also done their Universe proud when it comes to outtakes although there was some controversy over the differing amounts of special features in the various DVD and Blu-ray versions of Star Trek Into Darkness and Star Trek beyond the bloop has released for all three films are decidedly funny from the very first we see the actors fumbling their lines getting the giggles making jokes and generally messing around on set try counting the number of times Chris stumbles over the pronunciation of the name of the alien race the fibonans in an outtake from the beginning of Beyond in the gag reel from the corridor scene that follows Kirk's rescue from the tanaksi Carl Urban who plays Dr McCoy seemingly improvises a stream of witty and embarrassing diagnoses that let's just say reveal a lot more about Kirk than we wanted to know but that we had probably already assumed to be true in any case the gangorean clap is definitely not a type of alien Applause in another clip from Beyond on the bridge of the USS Franklin John Cho who plays Sulu stops the scene to note that Pine sounds like he's doing Shatner I mean he really does before the next take the latter retorts this one's going to be full shot watch out number 4. Tracy for the 2014 Blu-ray release of season seven of the Next Generation we were teased with some never-before-seen bloopers from the show one came from the end of the episode parallels wolf makes it back to his Enterprise and this time Riker really is clueless about a surprise party as one hasn't been planned in an outtake outside wolves quarters Jonathan Freights clearly turns around to face Wharf with a little too much Gusto but not stopping there he develops his mistake into a hilarious little skit he begins by doing various side splitting double takes and instead of something wrong he shouts what's wrong with you Dawn keeps delivering his lines as if all is normal what are you talking about Frank's replies with a good dose of comedic incredulity before he spots a crew member walking by who also appears in the take that made it to air Tracy he yells before chasing after her down the corridor in general we see just how much fun the cast and crew had on set in the final season and indeed before they got some great work done but they clearly didn't take themselves too seriously the rest of the time having said that maybe this wasn't really an outtake at all perhaps it took place in one of those alternate universes wolf was visiting quick get the Galaxy truth Network on the case number three three original prankster oh Enterprise you were taken from us far too soon if the untimely cancellation still wrinkles you after all these years there are some rather fine bloopers you must see to lift your spirits Scott Bakula was well liked by the cast if you watch these shuttle pods show with Dominic Keating and Connor traneer you'll know that the two actors hold bacular in high esteem his laid-back and jovial demeanor shines through the screen in a hilarious Enterprise bloopers that are available to us in a season 1 outtake from Broken Bow we see bacula's breadstick acting skills tested to the limit for example equally when he messes up a line he usually brings out an array of Impressions and silly voices his Woody the Woodpecker is particularly good the final atmosphere on set is most evident in the pranks bacular plays on the cast and the joy the latter get when they can pay him back the season 2 gag reel contains almost an entire scene of uninterrupted and quite serious dialogue from the episode dead stop Ensign Mayweather has just been freed from the grips of the alien repair station and is recovering in sick Bay bacula delivers his lines as normal and it seems odd and odder that this should be part of the outtakes then just at the end he adds to May however we found the pictures in your room Anthony Montgomery who played the enson is left almost doubly in stitches presumably to get one up on the captain the season 4 outtakes show John Billingsley as he Marches On set sporting a blonde wig whilst visibly pregnant he points at Bakula and shouts Jack Hughes Jack Hughes Little Billy Bakula is going to know his daddy number two here goes there are so very few bloopers around for Star Trek Voyager that you'd better enjoy the ones we have it's a shame there aren't any more as the set of Voyager at least at first seems like Riot is good fun at times as Kate Mulgrew notes in her fearless first Memoir born with teeth the cast would often erupt into uncontrollable laughter in particular when they were all exhausted and slap Happy Mulgrew recounts that she was often reduced to tears of laughter by impromptu chorus lines and high kicks impeccable impersonations and other Shenanigans from the boys aboard ship the outtakes that exist do hint at such Antics in one one from a shuttle scene in the episode Coda we see that Robert Beltran as chicote is clearly finding one bit of dialogue a bit tricky a very fast line about a tachyon burst and vadian ship Beltran begins to bungle but carries on anyway giving us if you're going to Omit that tachyon beam ship it down to the ship and we'll ship it out of here Mulgrew can do little else but deliver her next line here goes before the pair are in hysterics Tim Ross as Tuvok also provides his fellow actors with some well-crafted comic relief his deliciously silly over reacting to a phaser hit from what appears to be the episode worst case scenario is an outtake to behold his Keen sense of humor is also on full display as he pranks the crew whilst filming the season 2 episode innocence man I ain't going in there he yells as he runs away from that drayan Benjamin Button style death cave number one it was written all over his back it is equally hard to find any Deep Space Nine bloopers there's the one where John Delancey as Q are CIS glow to Ravish him to which Avery Brooks replies seductively I might there's another of Jonathan Frakes as Thomas Riker stumbling all over the set as he gets trapped by malfunctioning doors on the defiant and when Brooks flubs a line his infectious laughter is a better tonic than anything Dr Bashir could prescribe there is one particular highlight in amongst the dearth an outtake so good that you will wonder what you ever did without it you've all seen the Odo farewell to Quark in what we leave behind the scene is funny enough by itself it appears however that the actors had a very different character Arc in mind for all you shippers and slashers out there in the outtake which was shown at convention panels for the documentary what we left behind in 2019 Odo gives his famous harunf and then to everyone's surprise he leans into Quark for a passionate kiss almond shimmerman and Renee Aubuchon warp play the moments who Camp Perfection as Aubuchon War walks off to the Runabout shimmerman and the Nar visitors somehow continue to act the scene as a written only adding to the hilarity that man loves me Quark notes then with the most telling of dramatic pauses he concludes it was written all over his his back and that concludes our list if you think we missed any then do let us know in the comments below
