this video was sponsored by the magic candle company stay tuned until the end of the video to find out how you can make your home or office smell just like sorn over california and no i would never joke about that oh oh hey uh just me you know your average everyday epcot fan enjoying my average every day at epcot you know it's not it's not really easy being an epcot fan you know you have to always be right about everything you have to be super smart extremely attractive a people person a people pleaser and we're usually rich and famous being an epcot fan is the hardest thing to do you have to like all the old rides and all the new rides i mean at least i do and most importantly you have to be privy to all of its secrets what tell you some of epcot's secrets no no you're you're probably based on my audience a disneyland fan watching this video you don't deserve to know all of epcot's secrets oh you say that's the point of the youtube channel for me to teach you no i'm not going to teach you but you do drive a hard bargain listen tell you what you buy me a churro and i'll tell you all you want to know about epcot every single detail all the way down to the dragons on top of the nine dragons restaurant yeah that's a thing that's a story detail so what do you say churro that's what i thought come on oh epcot how i love you so oh how irreplaceable you are and how futuristic you will be once the the transformation is complete now epcot is a park that is full of secrets and details it's one of the last remaining sort of classic disney parks a park that was built and designed by walt disney's original imagineers those who worked on disneyland rolly crump helped design the land pavilion ward kimball designed all of world of motion horizons bring back horizons was a sequel a direct sequel to walt disney's carousel of progress you can see the love and detail that walt's original imagineers put into this park even today that spirit i think personally me you might not think this but i think it's alive and well and so when it comes to secrets and details there are so so many to get through so i am going to do five entries from future world to the front of the park and five entries from the world showcase the back of the park unless you come in through the skyliner then that's swapped but five from future world five from world showcase and what better place to start than at the very front of the park just as you walk into your right at guard i forgot about that okay well guardians of the galaxy cosmic rewind is an attraction that hasn't opened yet actually that it's not open to the public but there is a detail on the outside of the attraction that we already know about even though it's not open and that is on the facade of the former universe of energy pavilion now known as the wonders of xandar pavilion now you may think with all of that build up that it's this super cool full-scale replica of a nova core star fighter from the first guardians of the galaxy movie but it's not it's behind it when they were putting in the metal paneling for the facade of guardians of the galaxy cosmic rewind people were going crazy especially imagineer zack ridley the guy who's behind the entire overhaul of epcot trust me if you want epcot secrets and details his instagram is a gold mine and some of the entries on this list may or may not be from there and on december 21st of last year 2021 he shared this video of the nova corps emblem on the front of the building and did you notice something really cool that just happened let me let me play it again it changes colors depending on where you're standing purple to yellow the colors of the nova core if that is not the coolest thing i have ever seen on a facade i don't know what is that that's just a whole new level of interactivity and i applaud the imagineers for this small yet very significant touch guardians of the galaxy cosmic rewind opens this summer at epcot and you can bet your bottom dollar that i will be there walking back and forth in front of the the building just watching this thing change colors remy's ratatouille adventure recently opened and boy is this ride amazing people complain that they speak french on the attraction even though it takes place in france i don't really get it but i love remy's ratatouille adventure it's such a good ride it's trackless it's you gotta wear 3d glasses but the smells at the end and the sets they're all better than i thought they would be personally i wasn't really looking forward to it too much but it pleasantly surprised me now pixar the studio that made ratatouille is known for putting easter eggs in all of their movies like the pizza planet truck in every single pixar movie except for the incredibles and while yes you can find the pizza planet truck inside on the ride this easter egg is actually outside if you remember toward the end of the movie the current chef at gusto's jonah skinner chases remy and linguine through the streets of paris on his red scooter and that very same scooter can be found right outside the exit of remy's ratatouille adventure as you're coming out of the attraction sitting there completely unattended next to another scooter and the black scooter next to it belongs to none other than collette so i guess this little area as you're coming out of remy's ratatouille adventure just sort of serves as staff parking huh but either way next time you're leaving remy's ratatouille adventure strike a pose next to these two awesome scooters and just know that they were ridden by characters in the film even though it was animated their their replicas from the animated movie they're not they weren't real you know one of my favorite underappreciated areas at epcot is the seas with nemo and friends formerly known as the living seas it's really fun to go in here in the middle of the day watch them feed the manatees and look at all the wonderful ocean life that grace is our planet it's really fun experience i highly recommend going in you don't have to ride the ride if you don't want to but boy is it fun and there are tons of references to the old living seas pavilion the building itself of course is called sea bass a reference to its old name sea bass alpha back when it was the living seas but inside just as you go in through the doors to the gift shop you will find a bronze plaque engraved with the name the living seas and next to it you'll find a list of the people who helped plan and research the living seas the original name for the pavilion that they just i guess haven't changed since it's still there so yes while it is fun to talk it up with crush pose inside bruce's mouth and watch all of the manatees eat all of their lettuce it's actually really fun watching them eat lettuce remember to take a moment and do what jpeg wants you to do and stop by the gift shop but not to buy anything but just to have a look at a piece of epcot history right there before your very eyes do you all know what a civic clock is no do you want me to tell you i'm gonna tell you what it is before we were all walking around with smartphones and watches on our wrist to tell the time the average person like you and i didn't really have a way to know what part of the day it was i mean sure you could look at the sun and you'd know when it was noon sunset or sunrise but everything in between was a bit iffy and so civic clocks were put in town squares or very prominent places to help the average joe like you and me tell what time of day it was and a civic clock exists in the morocco pavilion that's where we're going world showcase come on pictured here is the civic clock you can find in the morocco pavilion thank you zach for enlightening all of us i had no idea this actually meant something but it's epcot it's disney everything means something just to the left of restaurant marrakech is this magana or a water clock and now i'm going to quote zak directly to tell you how this worked 13 wooden beams extend from the wall above street level each held a brass bowl into which a metal ball would drop from the window above to chime the hour the clockworks were inside the building powered and regulated by a water cistern that drained at a steady pace the real madonna that this one is based off of is located in the city of fez and is five centuries old in a building called the dar al magana or the house of the clock just a really cool real world innovation that is showcased very quietly and subtly at epcot a park that is built around innovation and the human spirit and food did i mention this one is not functional [Music] oh horizons bring back horizons how i miss you so your slow-moving omniverse style dark ride-isms you're sort of being a sequel to the carousel of progress and your wonderful vision of the future even though i never got to ride it horizons has a very strong cult following amongst epcot fans and disney fans in general horizons is a massive part of disney history it was one of epcot's signature attractions back in the day then you know you know the whole sinkhole thing happened and they had to tear it down and on top of its corpse they built mission space a ride i haven't been on in probably eight years get a little vomit get a little delicious my tummy starts to hurt without wanting my tummy to hurt i'm at epcot i got a lot of food to eat anyway everybody loves horizons and so disney has to put a new horizons easter egg in every single new attraction they open okay that's a rule and when you go to dine at the new restaurant space 220 located right next to mission space you may see a few easter eggs alluding to the future where horizons may be a reality not in our real future that thing is gone but in the fictional future of space [Music] up to space 220. aboard the centauri space station enjoy the ride wait whoa did you hear that did you did you hear what she called it [Music] there may have been a baby coughing while she said it but she said the centauri space station do you know what the space station and horizons was called the brava centauri space station okay you guys like offhand disney theories okay here's my personal theory the brava century space station is a later incarnation of the centauri space station that we visit in space 220. since space 220 is tied into the story of mission space which happens you know sort of today maybe the near future and horizons happens in the far future later on down the line you have the centauri space station or the alpha centauri space station and then later on down the line you get the bravo or the brava centauri space station the second incarnation the one we see on horizons thank you everybody i'll be here all week that is my theory and i'm like 99 sure that that's canon that like that that's legit and if you want to see the braava century space station that's actually the secret i wanted to talk about head to the entrance of mission space and there will be a mural just to your right and little small hidden in the mural you can see it right there bravo century from horizons it lives it lives just bring back horizons to just bring just like listen mission space is fine but just like bring back horizons and and then and we can just go on it as many times as i want i won't get sick at all i can eat as much food as you what i'll spend all you get in the gift shop jpeg i'll do whatever oy i think welcome to the uk pavilion the pavilion where you can get fish and chips tea tea pots and of course the scotch egg delicious i think the uk pavilion is underappreciated personally the uk and canada are probably two of the most relaxing pavilions ones where you can just go and relax in the gardens and just take a walk around and just bask in the atmosphere it's very quiet in the back streets of the uk pavilion and i really appreciate that i like a good quiet spot but as you walk through the streets of the uk take a look at the buildings and architecture around you you'll find that it seems to change as you continue walking all the way through to the millennium village or the festival center as it's known now and this isn't just disney imagineers showing off the different architectural styles of the uk well i mean it is but there is a method to the madness now you know you don't have to write spaceship earth in order to time travel right no okay this is something an epcot fan would know you just have to walk through the uk pavilion like on your feet that's not even a ride now starting from the international gateway you arrive at the twinings tea caddy a very cool representation of a 1600s british cottage yeah with the thatched roof and the stone walls you go inside there's a fireplace it's really low ceilings kind of dark in there really cool but then you keep walking down the street toward hyde park and you come across a 1600s building taller built out still sort of the same style but with shingled roofs this time and then even further down the road you arrive at this really cool 1700 style building with thicker windows stained glass and more bricks in the building than stone and even further on down toward the hyde park replica you come across a late 1800s to early 1900s style victorian stone worked home it's a row of homes it sort of looks like what you'd find in mary poppins even though that's i think canceled i don't i i maybe so the next time you're an epcot and you want to do a little bit of three second time traveling just walk through the pavilion past the twinings tea shop and into hyde park it's also way way cheaper than normal time traveling believe me i know now it just wouldn't be an offhand disney video without mentioning my good friend tony baxter who created journey into imagination one of the most iconic disney attractions ever one that so many people around the world hope for the eventual return of disney for some reason in 1999 closed down the original and reopened it as journey into your imagination everyone hated that and then two years later they closed it and reopened it as journey into imagination with figment the one that we have today now i personally enjoy the current journey into imagination for what it is it's fine it's not anywhere near as good as the original but it scratches the itch i guess but because this is disney and more specifically because this is epcot disney doesn't always do a good job of taking away all of the remnants of the old attractions take for example the dvc lounge up on the second floor of journey into imagination the former image works or perhaps when you're exiting journey into imagination that step down into the current image works which is where the old turntable where you would first meet dream finder was located legend has it if you're a very cunning and sensitive footed person you can still feel the original ride tracks under your feet if you walk under them just something to do next time you're at the imagination pavilion i guess you see when they removed the original journey into imagination they cut the length of the ride almost in half and much of the first floor show building that was relegated to ride scenes was rethemed into the queue and the current image works so many remnants of old epcot that were just boarded over like this hallway to nowhere at the pixar short film festival that used to lead to the journey into imagination building but you know is now just there if you're ever an epcot and you're ever looking for me just go to one of these spots in the imagination pavilion look for someone just stepping on the floor in random spots or like feeling a wall it's probably gonna be me looking for old remnants of one of the best disney rides ever made you ever eaten at the nine dragons restaurant it's pretty good it's in the china pavilion they got chinese food i mean obviously and it's it's it's fine it's it's good for what you're getting what you're paying i think it's it's serviceable but we're not here to talk about food now who cares about disney food we're here to talk about theming and the theming that takes place both inside and outside of this restaurant take a look up there at the roof you see those those gold things up there what are those well the guy in the front sitting on the hen is the 3rd century chinese ruler prince min and let me tell you prince min was such just uh just a piece of work he was so cruel to his subjects that they eventually rose up and hung him yeah yeah it was customary in china to put an effigy of him on buildings as a warning to other tyrants just a little symbol saying hey you know how prince min ended up yet that just letting you know and the parade of animals behind him are to thwart any escape attempts if that little guy tries to run off they'll be there to catch him a little grim but a super cool detail not a lot of people know about so i just figured i'd spread the word here about prince min and just just be nice to people and now moving inside the nine dragons into the dining room facing the kitchen we come face to face with the nine dragons themselves there they are up there on the wall okay next entry i'm joking of course let's talk about these nine dragons what do they mean why is the restaurant named after them well during the concept and creation of the nine dragons restaurant imagineers were invited out to new york to visit artists loretta yang and chong yi these two were masters of the craft known as lost wax casting the process dates back to the han dynasty in china and results in really cool multi-colored glass sculptures the nine dragon sculptures are meant to be sort of a focal point in the dining room showing that theming goes beyond just attractions like the haunted mansion or journey into imagination and even into the restaurants where not too many people would think to look for these great details but i did i thought i thought about it i looked for him okay for real what's the best ride at epcot in all of walt disney world you have one second to answer yeah that's right it's living with the land it's just it's offhand disney 101 folks now while living with the land is impeccable when it comes to education and detail and science and imagineering we're actually going to stay outside of the land pavilion i know it pains me too but we need to look at the mural and the planters in the middle as we make our way up the ramp into the pavilion now take a look to your side on either side as you're walking up into the pavilion and you'll see a beautiful tile mural a mosaic one could say now this beautiful mosaic was done by monica scharf and her father-in-law the charming and well-known nazi interrogator hans scharf and that's not just me saying stuff this guy was a nazi he also did the mosaic in cinderella castle so maybe it's time to change that now monica did not sign her work you don't really sign a mosaic i don't know how you would do that but there was a signature of sorts that was left behind on the right mosaic just before you walk into the doors to go into the pavilion you may spot an emerald-colored tile as the story goes this was her way of sort of signing or leaving her mark on the mosaic because the emerald is her birthstone for the month of may and so this little emerald tile was monica's sort of stamp on the mural as a way for her to leave her mark or at least we thought for a while after actually being contacted by celebrations press she confirmed that no she was not born in may but was born instead in october and she has no idea where this little green tile came from she assumes that a disney worker found it and put it there because they thought it would look good or there was a tile missing from that area and they needed to substitute it with this green one either way it's not her signature per se but it is i would say someone's signature whoever the worker was that put this little tile there left their mark on the mural forever and i think that's really really kind of funny although the stories are indeed not true it is something fun to look at while you're on your way to the premier attraction in all of walt disney world remember all those entries ago when i said epcot is the last park built by the people who worked personally with walt you can still feel that as you walk around future world and the world showcase there's just this sort of vibe in the air that exists only at epcot the magic kingdom and the original disneyland i don't really know how to describe it and if you need something a little bit more tangible than vibes allow me to introduce you to this so most of us know at this point that walt has a lamp above the fire station at disneyland walt was the driving creative force behind disneyland it was like his baby his passion project he loved it so much and of course it's only fitting that he has a lamp reminding us that he's always in the park even though he may not be here anymore and that's all well and good but who was the creative force behind walt disney world who was the driving force to get walt's dream finished who is the man who took it upon himself to construct the magic kingdom in 1971 that's right roy disney walt's brother and if walt has a lamp i think it's only fair that roy has one also and he does when walt disney world opened in 1971 roy was gifted a special lamp by the government or the japanese arm of the walt disney company i'm not sure which one is which i hear differing reports some say that the japanese arm of disney gifted it to him and others say that the actual emperor of japan at the time hirohito was the one behind the gift either way someone from japan gave roy this lantern ortoro often found in buddhist temples shinto shrines or just japanese gardens they were originally intended to illuminate darkened pathways now roy didn't put this lantern in his own home or back at the studios in burbank but instead somewhere at walt disney world but remember epcot wasn't open this was 1971. he decided to place it instead at disney's polynesian village resort the best resort on the monorail loop if i do say so myself but of course once epcot opened in 1982 imagineers knew that it would be a better fit for the japan pavilion and here's something that's a little crazy the lantern that was sculpted and created in the early 1970s has a deer on it that deer represents nara deer park today known as just nara park in nara japan famous for nara dreamland i just said nara a lot but it's got disney ties like a lot of them weirdly and not only is the defunct dreamland located in nara japan but also a buddhist temple called horyuji whose pagoda was the reference and the inspiration for the one in the japan pavilion at epcot did they plan this out 10 years beforehand or were the imagineers like well the deer is already on the lamp at the polynesian so we have to model it after horyuji what came first is neither lamp or the pavilion a design you have to answer me this question right now i'm gonna lose it i'm i'm gonna lose it where was i going with this again oh yeah roy now it makes sense that walt has a lamp at disneyland it was his park and it makes sense that roy has a lamp at walt disney world it was his park except it's not at the magic kingdom it's at epcot but i think it's really really cool that although it's not the same kind of lamp disneyland's famous lamp in the windowsill has a less famous more reserved much like roy himself brother on the other coast of the united states it's just something poetic about that next time you walk past it just pay your due respects to the second lamp and that's it those are my top 10 favorite secrets and details at epcot go on you can go home now unless that is of course your house it smells stinky and disgusting and you'd rather smell like the disney parks maybe your
