UK's second most expensive residential area you'd be surprised to find these ten empty palaces they may be smaller than the castles belonging to Queen Elizabeth but that's because they were merely intended to serve as hideaways for another nations royalty in the late 1980s and early 1990s it's believed members of the Saudi royal family purchase these homes as their own kind of doomsday bunkers in the event their own home became engulfed in the kind of turmoil Saddam Hussein's Iraq was experiencing at the time however for the past 25 plus years these mansions worth an estimated 75 million pounds have gathered moss with vines growing up steps and holes in the walls floors and ceiling the only residents are the wild animals hiding in Grand fireplaces and living in musty old furniture priceless chandeliers hang over the bare floors of unused ballrooms and reflects sunlight back onto tattered curtains to get owners to either occupy or sell their homes London's Mayor Boris Johnson is pushing for a heavy increase on taxes especially since the city faces a housing crisis for its less fortunate citizens in the meantime the Saudi Arabian billionaires could provide an entire season of but he used to live in one his abandoned mansion in Southington Ohio has been renovated by a new church in the area the man who bit off part of the Evander Holyfield's ear has made a name for himself as a tough fighter inside the ring and a high roller outside of it struggling financially and filing for bankruptcy in 2003 iron Mike couldn't afford to keep the 13,500 square foot mansion with its sprawling indoor pool zebra-print carpets low-hanging chandeliers and cages for his 370 thousand dollar Bengal tigers he sold it to businessman Paul Munya for a 1.3 million dollars but he didn't move into the house money and never got the chance to occupy the mansion once he was arrested in an FBI sting when money--i offered the mansion in exchange for a rare 20 million-dollar diamond - an undercover agent posing as an emissary from a high up criminal the entrepreneur was arrested on charges of money laundering a health magnate purchased the mansion at auction removes some of the tackier fixtures and ultimately donated the property to a start-up Church Prince Andrew right next to Great Britain's exclusive Wentworth golf club and Ascot racetrack lies a place fit for a prince the only problem is the Prince doesn't live in it built for the newly married Prince Andrew and Duchess Sarah Ferguson on the occasion of their 1986 wedding the newlyweds made the mansion their home dubbed the stately name of sunning hill the mansion lorded over the rest of its exclusive Berkshire neighbourhood situate over the mansions high on its central Hill Prince Charles's brother Andrew and Andrews wife the original Fergie were divorced in 1996 but she and her daughters remained in the home for several more years vacating the land in the early 2000s the home started to look more like a dilapidated setting of a slasher film than the royal residence it used to be poorly cordoned off the home fell into disrepair with weeds growing throughout broken windows letting the outside elements pour inside and greenery sprouting all around the indoor swimming pool the property and sunning Hill was reportedly purchased by Keynes rakish of a businessman from Kazakhstan to which Prince Andrew has had questionable ties he's denied ownership but whoever owns the land finally demolished the long abandoned 12 bedroom 12 bathroom mansion in early 2017 Marilyn Monroe she starred in the seven-year itch but it's hard to give buyers the itch to purchase her six point nine million dollar home in LA's Brentwood neighborhood the last year's of Marilyn Monroe's life were spent in this southwestern styled bungalow with white walls and a gate surrounding the modest property of the 2624 foot home this house is the last place in which Monroe lived occupied by Monroe and trusted maid eunice the stucco hacienda was the first residence the movie starlet owned outright sadly she passed away there in 1962 only several months after moving in although several other owners have called this place home since Monroe's untimely death the mini Oasis has undergone few changes since Monroe's short stint at five Helena drive over half a century ago in a 1962 photoshoot for Time magazine Monroe said anybody who likes my house I'm sure I'll get along with since subsequent owners like the aesthetics enough to keep it as is she probably would have made acquaintances with any of them with its arched doorways wood ceilings terracotta floors and blue tiles fireplace Monroe would still feel at home in her private getaway if you consider yourself a fan of one of the 20th century's most iconic faces and happen to have 7 million dollars lying around you may want to consider buying this relic of old Hollywood you get Clark you get Clark may not be a household name but this heiress is as close to royalty as an American can get her father's mining company allowed the family to rub elbows with Rockefellers and Carnegie's though they weren't in the railroad business all railroads led to the Clarks greatest accomplishment Las Vegas yes founding one of the most popular tourist in the world when it was just a small mining town is quite an accomplishment while that led to Hugh get purchasing three massive plots of land she spent the last 20 years of her 104 year old life in a hospital bed and wasn't able to enjoy the fruits of her family's success one of these mansions is the immaculately kept Bella's guardo in Santa Barbara California a 1930s era Chateau hanging over the Pacific decorated pools in the courtyard reflect the murals on the surrounding walls with all the same paintings and covered furniture as it was when she lived there the house is as full as her life she was on the Titanic's fateful trip and was living in New York during September 11th but the real treasure lies in the carriage house where there remains a 1933 Cadillac v16 limo and Chrysler Royal 8th convertible both in mint condition Vincente Minnelli former husband Judy Garland and fathered two Liza Minnelli mean Santa's luxurious Beverly Hills residence is now overrun with graffiti and Drifters when Vincent day passed away in 1986 he bequeathed the home to his widow Lee but his estate was left to Liza to manage Liza Minnelli sold the house in 2002 and set aside a condo for her stepmother but Lee refused to leave when Liza stopped paying electricity and the staff they continued to work for free dedicated to their aging boss from there Lee sued Liza and the two surviving Minelli's were forced to come to a new agreement Liza could sell the home to new owners but Lee was able to live there until her death after a complex turn of events the widow Minelli passed on and the new owners failed to move into the French Regency styled Mansion so if he came home to squatters mirrored walls now only reflect empty living rooms bay windows open to unattended yards and a library that once housed modernist statues and a collection of artistic works is empty save for the leftover belongings thrown on the water damaged carpets a feature in Architectural Digest from the mid 20th century shows just how chic the old pad used to be compared to the empty shell it's become the Los Feliz Murder House fame is a fickle thing some people are rewarded with Fame for their talent others for luck and a few for infamous deeds done along the way the same can be said of houses while this Los Feliz mentioned boasts a grand 1925 Spanish style it was the site of a brutal crime in 1959 that even the most skilled real estate agent couldn't gloss over when physician Harold Harrison lost his mind possible financial troubles he took it out on those closest to him while new owners have moved in they reported that the trauma of the original crime hadn't left the house with its original inhabitants Julien and Emily and Rica's purchased the house in the 1960s but it was left unattended after that time and it seems it was vacated in a hurry with furniture and certain belongings left behind according to an LA Times piece on the house from 2009 one peek through the window could reveal a fading living room with a classic 1950s era TV set and even still wrapped Christmas presents set aside on a table with a Great Hall styled entryway ballroom and study this Murder House just needs a conservatory and it's the house from clue this Sowden house speaking of creepy la homes with sword paths the Sowden house stands high above others not many homeowners are lucky enough to save their household was designed by Lloyd Wright son of famed architect Frank Lloyd Wright but built in the Mayan Revival style mr. Wright went out of his way to make it look like a demon's paradise although he'd go on to design more standard if I caching structures like the Hollywood Bowl and the Wayfarers Chapel the saben house is laid out as if he were rebelling against his father style the only thing more dark and culty than the look of the mansion is the story of its owner dr. George Hodel purchased the house in the 1940s and moved his family into its maze-like hallways and sharp corners with a mix of walls more appropriate in an ancient temple and furniture more appropriate in dr. Evil's secret lair the only secret was that dr. Hodel was evil in his own right abusing those around him by day and hosting odd rituals at night he never aroused suspicion from outsiders thanks to his well-regarded status as a top doctor among the Hollywood elite it wasn't until years after his death that he was revealed to be a top suspect in LA's infamous Black Dahlia case Steve Jobs and Steve Jobs his eyes the Jacqueline house was meant to be torn down the Apple founder purchased the property in 1984 with the intent of raising it and starting fresh but the rich history of the Jacqueline house would haunt him he eventually defeated conservation groups and tore down right before his untimely death but he wasn't able to oversee the replacement for the 17,000 250 square foot Spanish Colonial Revival style mansion the 14 room mansion was built in the 1920s by a local mining magnate and Jobs himself spent most of the 1980 living in the house while his professional career faltered perhaps associating his failures with the location he left the Jacqueline house uninhabited with its doors and windows open allowing natural elements and human intruders to take their toll outside of the authentic 1920s lighting sconces wood carved furniture mix of Art Deco and modern decor and with a fair smattering of Apple logo scattered through the house the biggest piece of history was Jacqueline's full-size pipe organ preservationist managed to sneak in and squeeze it out of the house before demolition in 2011 the rest is history thanks for taking a stroll through these creepy old houses come back to the hub soon there's always more uninhabited places and unclaimed real estate to explore [Music]
