[Music] hey what's up this is read a lot of you have asked what is the best smart light strip so to find out I went on the Amazon and I got way more than I should have I ended up with ten different light strips to compare head-to-head my goal is to find the best smart light strip that will work out of the box without needing to solder or anything like that I'm gonna start off with the least expensive light strip and work my way up to the most expensive I'll be comparing a lot of factors and I'll be using the luma waveform to measure the brightness it's been interesting to see that brightness displayed as a number don't worry you won't need to take notes since I love everything written down in the article linked above at the end I'll go over my favorite light strip on a budget and my favorite overall make sure to subscribe because i'll be sharing several ideas on where to install these light strips in a future video to help your home turn into a ooh not that moving on the first light strip is from Sylvania these are really inexpensive and you ZigBee so you'll need a hub like smart things for these to work the brightness on the white color is decent for the price point the minimum brightness is a tad bright so watch out for that the RGB colors weren't bright except for the green color the one thing that is good about these light strips is the white accuracy it's actually pretty decent it has a white LED diode as well as the RGB which is why the white color is so good I had these hooked up to smart things and the controls are basic if you want really inexpensive ZigBee light strips for accent lighting then these aren't bad the second one is next lux these are much longer at five meters or just over 16 feet they use Wi-Fi sooo you don't need a hub and they also come with an IR remote they can get really dim but the max brightness is the weakest out of all these light strips as you can see compared to Sylvania that goes for all the colors on these as well they don't have a great white color either since they only use RGB it's a simulated white and it's always blue or some off-color white I have the 32 foot length version under my bed and I've enjoyed them for accent lighting some of you said that putting light strips under the bed it's tacky well please stop saying that because you're gay my wife ideas overall I like these for how I've used them but if you're looking for brightness then I would look elsewhere you may have heard of the gobi terrine color light strips they're addressable so you can change the brightness and color of different sections of the light strip at the same time there is a Wi-Fi version which is waterproof and a bluetooth only version which isn't waterproof both versions are very bright and the colors are amazing at this price point they're both the same length of the next lux light strips but are double the brightness in every color as you can see them side by side the dream color light strips don't have a white LED so it's a simulated white for whatever reason it looks better than the next looks and the app makes it easier to select as well there are a lot of cool effects you can do with these and the Bluetooth only version allows you to customize each section it also has a few extra effects as well being the newer version the Bluetooth only version is also slightly brighter because it doesn't have the waterproof covering but besides that they're the same they also have a microphone on the light strip to add effects for music and it's really responsive even though the Wi-Fi version is slightly older and is not as bright I would still choose it because I can control it with my voice assistance I'm throwing in one more gobi light strip because it's RGB WW it has two white LED diodes similar to the hue light strips however the gobi app makes it difficult to have an accurate white color the RGB light stays really bright and it looks kind of blue if the white is the base color if I choose yellow as the base color it looked more like a natural white color when both the white LEDs are on I can't get it very dim the brightness isn't great and the colors are also pretty average I like the idea of an inexpensive RGB WW light strip but it's difficult to recommend with how they pull this off it does win the award for longest acronym though next is the send LED light strip it's the brightest light strip so far in the video at 1400 lumen but there's a catch first the brightness can get really dim which is great however the max brightness of 1400 lumen can only happen at 2700 Kelvin changing to a different white temperature drops the brightness and the white colors don't look good unless it's at 2700 Kelvin also the colors aren't very bright the red and blue especially are very dim it's very similar to Sylvania is brightness besides the 2700 Kelvin over I think Sylvania has a better white and RGB colors the sengh LED light strip uses ZigBee like Sylvania so you do need a hub I would skip these Tseng LED light strips for all of their issues and get Sylvania for a better overall budget ZigBee option moving up in price is Yi light yes Yi light these are Wi-Fi light strips so no hub needed the brightness while on the white color is not good especially compared to the others at this price point however the minimum brightness is fine there isn't a white LED so it's just RGB and the whites don't look very accurate for how expensive this light strip is you would think that there would be a dedicated white LED the colors on it are decent the red is dull but the blue and green are good the Yi ligh app is also easy to use but it has very little effects available for the light strips I like them for smart-home compatibility but unless a price was cut in half it's difficult to recommend them moving up in quality and price is tp-link I really like these light strips they can get very bright at 1,400 lumen and the minimum brightness is good the white temperature looks great warmed it cool and it stays bright throughout the white spectrum the colors are also very bright and saturated when looking at these compared to the previous light strips there's a big jump with the overall quality these light strips also have addressable sections similar to the gobi dream color lights you control them with a casa app and right now there are some effects that you can do with the addressable sections however tp-link is still working on implementing them to be customizable like it appears on the back of their box once they do it's gonna make these even better if you're looking for a really bright Wi-Fi light strip then these are a great option hue light strips are next and they are the brightest out of the bunch at 1600 lumen this is just on the white color so be aware of that but still I tested it and they're much brighter than any other smart light strip look at it compared to tp-link you can actually see a difference put a nexus and LED and it just blow singlet out of the water they can get very dim probably the dimmest out of all and like I mentioned earlier they have two white LEDs next to the RGB for much more accurate white colors if a bright accurate white color is important to you then you will love these light strips they light up the room very well RGB is a different story though the RGB colors are not very bright or saturated it's similar to the sengh LED in Sylvania but Philips hue is slightly better these use ZigBee and are controlled by the Philips hue bridge if you're planning on getting into the hue ecosystem then these are good light strips definitely pricey but the white color and brightness is amazing you can also only have one color at a time so no fancy effects if you want really bright reliable light strips prices in a big factor and your name is not Paul Hibbert and these are a good option the last light strips are from life ax these are also very bright light strips at 1400 lumen they can get very dim and the white colors look good not as good as Philips you because they only have one white LED the color is also very vibrant and they're pretty much the exact same as tp-link look at them side by side life X has a slight edge but not by much and some colors tp-link was even better I was surprised to see the numbers using the luma waveform and you can go compare them in the article life X also has addressable sections like the tp-link strips but you can do so much more in the life x app it's easy to choose the colors with their paint mode and the app is best-in-class with usability lifx is also compatible with a lot of smart home system so it's good to keep in mind when building out your smart home Wow these things are expensive ok so which one is the best for light strips on a budget I would go with the gobi dream color Wi-Fi version you don't need a hub and it will add some bright RGB colors to somewhere like an office for the best budget ZigBee light strips I would choose Sylvania they're not gonna light up the entire room but they're gonna be great accent lighting that you can add to your smartthings hub my favorite overall is tp-link light strips you get a lot of great features like being able to easily light up an entire room with them very saturated colors and they're not the most expensive on the left they're also compatible with smart things so it's easy to integrate with my smart home human life acts are also great options especially if you need more smart home compatibility like home kit all the light strips in this video will work well except for the few that I mentioned and will just come down to your preference and especially your budget but hopefully this video was helpful and don't forget to subscribe if you haven't already thanks for watching and we'll see you next time [Music]
