of years with influences from ancient greece rome norman invasion and of course the arabian settlers now there are so many places in sicily but i've narrowed it down to just a few so here are 10 chaotic sultry and vibrant palermo is sicily's capital and largest city [Music] it's sicily's largest city and a very complex metropolis and adds to that you have italy's biggest opera house and an ever-growing number of vibrant eateries and bars but don't forget the cathedral of palermo one of the most architectural monuments in sicily [Music] i've reconverted christian church on the site of a muslim mosque that was previously built over a christian basilica something that you cannot miss [Music] is one of the unesco-listed baroque towns of south east sicily but is rather off the beaten track compared with its more visited neighbours this overlooked town has a scenic location and charm that at least matches its rivals [Music] it shares its architectural heritage with other towns in the area but it also has some unique attractions of its own but for a pleasant stroll or a lazy drink in the sunshine the most charming spot is via panna an elegant pedestrianised street lined with baroque palaces and churches [Music] number three syracusa and old teacher syracusa is a city on the ionian coast of sicily and it's known for its ancient ruins but it can be split into two different balconies are all common sights during your holiday you can delve into some of the city's history the medieval wash house said to be the residents of the norman king roger or admire the byzantine mosaic interiors within the norman cathedral [Music] but as you head down towards the seafront you'll discover sandy stretches of beach and a small port filled with little fishing boats and fishermen shaka is a town and commune in the province of agrigento on the southwestern coast of sicily the north african influence town of shaka lies north of the spectacular greek ruins of agrigento it was founded by the greeks and taken over by the romans but it was the arabs that left the most defining marks the name derives from the arabic word meaning crevice [Music] shaka sits on the top of a low cliff and it stumbles down into the sea now the whole area is dotted with hot springs and spas in fact there's also a nature reserve nearby for outdoor activities so the biggest draw here is of course italian region of sicily it's repeatedly referred to as the most beautiful village in italy but its beauty goes beyond just views of the towering mount etna in the distance the village is surrounded by green hills and with the stunning view of mount netanya in front of it walking a small road you arrive in a true medieval village surrounded by ancient walls but besides the usual churches and
