all of us want to live the millionaire lifestyle with all that travel to exotic locations the glamour and the amazing houses and mansions rich people live in rich properties and enjoy a standard of luxury that we can only dream of but the money doesn't always last forever sometimes the mansions become abandoned and fall to wrack and ruin 24 years of absolute power and wealth gives you a lot of time and cash to build palaces that's exactly what Saddam Hussein did the former Iraqi dictator built somewhere between 80 and 100 palaces during his time in power many of which were built after 1991 as an expression of his authority following the 1991 conflict in Kuwait Saddam was one of the world's richest men at the peak of his power banking millions of dollars in revenue with the proceeds of Iraq's oil fields Hussein had so much money that he even had his bathrooms decorated with solid gold once he'd fallen there was much debate over what to do with the buildings some of them are to be demolished whilst others have become villas or guest houses one palace in particular just outside Basra is to become a museum with all proceeds going to the rebuilding of the country in the Philippine Sea sits an island called Hachiko Jima which is owned by Japan and was once the jewel of their tourism industry the people of the 1960s used to call it Japan's Hawaii back then Japanese people were forbidden to go abroad for holidays and so the government provided tourist destinations of their own of all the luxury hotels built on the island the Hachiko Royale was the most lavish and impressive based on French Baroque period architecture and designed to appeal to the richer end of Japanese tourists the ornate water fountains and mock Greek statues were unlike anything available on the mainland when the government started allowing its citizens to go on vacation abroad the domestic tourism industry collapsed and the hotel slowly became disused finally closing forever in 2006 nature has since reclaimed the once luxurious interior with thick plants everywhere in some rooms computers and paperwork are still in place as if they're waiting for the staff to come back to work most of the buildings in this video used to be home to the rich and powerful black borough house in Devon England is a little different it was built in 1838 by a rich Earl a nobleman of the time who intended it to become an italian-style palace unfortunately he ran out of money partway through the construction phase and had to scale his plans down a little it was never really finished as he intended it and so he never lived in it the shell of the building was finished but the interior was left incomplete over time it served as the setting for the horror movie fear before finding a new life as a vehicle breakers yard when the property was recently placed on the market value errs were astonished to discover a Jaguar graveyard a whole fleet of disused luxury cars going rusty and covered in plants even a giant crusher that once appeared in a Superman movie to attack the hero was there waiting to be discovered it's believed that the exclusive vehicles will add significant value to the sale of the property it's only the rich of the past 200 years who have bought mansions if you were rich before then you bought a castle instead for centuries the some Asano Castle and Lexi Oh Italy was the most desirable residence in the whole country being sold from one rich man or family to the next over and over again first built in 1605 for Gimenez of aragon the castle has also belonged to the alte vidi family Duke Cosimo and Ferdinand pancha TGG - who once hosted the king of Italy there in 1878 when finally the last owner passed away without heirs the state took control of it and used it as a luxury hotel although with its truly beautiful interiors and exotic tree land it was the perfect set for an Italian movie - sadly the 365 room Palace started showing signs of wear and tear and was closed to the public in 1999 urgent refurbishment work is required to save the building and it's believed the Italian government is still trying to find a buyer there are more treasures in Egypt than just the pyramids and the Sphinx said Halim's palace which is so huge that it takes up an entire city block in the center of cairo is a hauntingly beautiful echo of times gone by the palace was once the most valuable and opulent building in all of Egypt but has stood vacant and abandoned since 2004 no expense was spared in the construction of the building Saeed Halim was a lover of Italy and Italian art and requested that his palace be designed with an Italian style and materials shipped in from Italy to make it authentic his days of wealth ended after the global conflict of 1914 to 1918 when the British seized his assets including his palace the building was repurposed as a school becoming one of the leading educational institutions in the entire country but because criminals knew what was inside the building it became an easy target for looters and vandals eventually the building was stripped bare and became too damaged to continue using for over a decade it's been nothing more than a ghost of Egypt's past in the Charles Dickens novel great expectations he describes a home belonging to the character Miss Havisham a grand old brick mansion slowly decaying in which time seem to have Stood Still he may as well have been describing the Hoey mansion in Florida which once belonged to the eccentric millionaire William Howe II who gave his name to both the mansion and the town it's it's Inn in fact Hoey is still there he passed away in 1938 and is buried in the mausoleum at the rear of the property other occupants came and went but the building has been empty since 2005 inside all of the fittings and fixtures are still there as if the last owner only left yesterday its ornate and beautiful and with a bit of love and attention it could still be a fairytale home for somebody with the money to properly care for it tennis legend Boris Becker is a man who was once the best in the world at his sport and had the bank balance to go with his talent with his vast wealth he purchased a luxury holiday home in Majorca with a value of 13 million dollars the villa which the locals refer to as song kol sits in the idyllic may Yorkin countryside and boasts a swimming pool within its 31 thousand square feet unfortunately Becker has had financial issues in recent years and is no longer able to pay for the upkeep of his property it's now occupied by a German hippie who says he's been staying there for a while and nobody has told him to leave so he treats it as his home he's already cleared away the weeds and the obvious signs of decay and says he'd like to continue to look after and repair the property because it deserves to be treated with love who knows how long he'll be able to stay there but staying in a luxury villa free of charge really is living the dream Chuang Chung house in Singapore may look like a home of the future but it was actually built back in 1938 it's a huge property in an exclusive and highly desirable area of its country and experts believe that if it was sold it might fetch up to four hundred and twenty five million dollars because of its value to property developers the house covers over one hundred thousand square feet and the space could be used to make modern apartments that would be a terrible waste of this stunning building which currently goes unnoticed by passers-by because the trees have grown around it so thickly inside the delicately handmade fixtures and railings give you an idea of the wealth that went into building it the mansion has stood empty for thirty years because of a dispute between the two parties who currently own it rock stars are known for their wild and unpredictable behavior apparently that behavior sometimes includes abandoning amazing fifteen million dollar mansions in the English countryside David Gilmore of the legendary band Pink Floyd must have spent a lot of his royalties on acquiring this beautiful home for his family to live in and nobody knows why he's just allowed it to start falling apart it looks as if he left in a hurry when urban explorers entered the house they found a game set up on the snooker table as if someone had left halfway through a game there was also food in the cupboards and possessions all over the house including a grand piano in Gilmore's recording studio this is a classic British mansion worthy of royalty and it's to be hoped that it finds a more careful owner in the near future you don't have to be famous to buy a mansion you just have to be rich psychologist Neil Sylvester had plenty of money and he used it to buy a vast Gothic style manor house near Doncaster in England where he indulged his passion for classic and vintage cars his job required him to move and strangely he just left everything behind and the house has stood still for the past thirty years like a time capsule a newspaper on the table inside the home dates back to 1991 and there are plenty of personal items still there like an old-fashioned beta mixtape in the study none errs impressive as the collection of rare vehicles though time and weather have not been kind to the home or the cars which have sadly started to fall apart and moss grows in the swimming pool this home used to be beautiful perhaps one day somebody will be able to restore it subscribe to the channel and turn on notifications and you will be the first to know when a new video comes out thank you for watching and see you soon
