and with that we welcome you inside simplify arena at stan sheriff center kanoa leahey next to lisa strand lisa take us through the kaiser permanente keys to the match so for the beach they just need to slow down uh's offense who's been hitting at 379 as a team and for uh getting off to a quick start this group really needs to get this from the get-go well they did get off to a quick start a quick transition kill for colton cowell there was some concern here for the wow maui kid not really a kid anymore as he has uh been with the program for six years but he actually turned an ankle during warm-ups and so he had to get the ankle re-taped he didn't like it felt like it was too restrictive and so he ended up taking the tape off and he is out there and looked good on that approach that's for sure so long beach state trying to play it back in hawaii putting up the wall at the net a couple of times on the outside it's spencer olivier 6-6 redshirt sophomore from tustin california he is their top hitter hitting 3 25 on the season 3.65 kills per set hawaiian financial fcu starting lineups scrolling at the bottom of your screen same starting rotation we saw from hawaii in the two matches last week versus uc san diego for long beach state they're going with sophomore setter ryan poole as opposed to the son of the head coach alan knight aiden knight a redshirt freshman who was the starter through the first four matches gave way to pull though prior to the third set in their last match last week against uc irvine ended up being a reverse sweep in favor of long beach state knight has been dealing with an ankle injury kind of flared up on him in that match and you know it's nice to have a little bit of depth in that position and that's exactly what tool did he came in and he pulled did he came in and he was a significant factor in their reverse sweep against uc irvine simon torwy 6-10 opposite freshman from spain goes wide on that swing and so it's quickly three serving one here in cowell back to serve for the rainbow warriors 9-0 on the season 4-0 in the big west conference and a good first touch there by olivier he gets the set on the outside but that block was up he was still able to plug it through though and that is hawaii's biggest block to offer right there 6-10 pat gassman next to six nine radophotopuno that's exactly what this young man will do he'll hit high off of the hands very young in the game a redshirt sophomore but at 6-6 he does a nice job utilizing the block two-hand pass there by chas galloway here's rado from the opposite pin and he hammers it down rado patapunov has been on another level here this season 4.3 kills per set he's hitting 409 15 straight double figure kill matches as you take a look at alan knight on his 18th season atop the long beach state program he has been part of every long beach state national championship they've won three one as a player in 91 and two back-to-back in 2018 and 2019 as pat gassman records the ace for the rainbow warriors pat gasman doing a great job from the service line he's really taken a lot of pride and a lot of effort making sure that he's being effective from the background that's something that he's developed over his now six years with this program he has become a pretty fierce server another good serve there but a good pass by olivier he gets the set on the opposite side plugs it through the block boss able to get it up though and then call with the hammer overpass and voss comes into the twine an unfortunate air by boss you had a great opportunity there but just got a little too over aggressive and there's a look at charlie wade in his 12th season 205 career victories atop the program his team ranked number one in the country long beach day coming in number seven and galloway has to chase down that second touch great effort as hawaii is able to forge a return free chance though here for the beach from the back row the touch over by olivier easy save there for hawaii here's arado and that may have tickled the pin and it did and so when outball there for potapunov hitting error gives the point to long beach state what an incredible athletic move by chaz galloway running all the way almost into the tunnel and then having to rebound and come back to the front court as he was a front court player so here is spencer olivier mentioned redshirt sophomore with the redshirt year the covid year actually his fourth year with the program so one of the more experienced players even though he wasn't a guy that was a big contributor during the national championship runs he's part of it and once you get that feeling of winning and what it takes to get that confidence and win a national championship and the leadership that he had he's showing a lot of leadership himself right now on this team eyeball goes outside and that is freshman clark godbold who gets the touch and gets it down this guy comes in with some hype 6'5 from san pedro california he is the reigning big west conference freshman of the week with his career high 13 kill performance against uc irvine but he was raided by volleyball mag.com the number one recruit in the country for 2020. he's a huge landing for long beach definitely another back bump set to patapunov and he's able to work it off the hands and out for a hawaii point just sees the court so well you got to remember he's coming out of the back court there he's led his team the last two are the first two matches here at the simplify arena in kills so here is chaz galloway to serve for the bose he was really impressive from the service line last week against ucsd but a good transition there for long beach state simone anderson was able to get it down in the middle 6-8 junior from middlebury denmark so he is the reigning big west conference defensive player of the week you also combined that with spencer olivier who was the big west conference offensive player of the week they swept the weekly awards and they were all first-time award winners it's pretty amazing the first timers for the series of the awards layout save their god bold and then torwy sends it long so freebie there for hawaii one of the things this long beach team has is a lot of hype we haven't seen as much height in the matches that hawaii has played thus far this year so we're going to see a lot more blocking i think in this match hence the defensive player last week simon anderson he's a middle blocker being named defensive player because of the amount of blocks that he received got the touch and so a point for the beach long beach state coming in 3-1 they have played only conference matches their first official recorded practice wasn't until february 16th and that is not that long ago truly but we talked about this a little bit earlier how most teams had it tough that way late season start but long beach day their players had to take it upon themselves right to get to the gym or get to whatever facility it was and meet up and play where they could because everything was shut down yeah it's not as though the players were just sort of lounging they were able to get some significant open gym run and so they got a little work in just as far as the official stuff they got a little bit of a later start compared to some of the other teams across the country the block was up right there colton cowell and pat gassman shutting the door and you can see the happiness in gasman's face you know what a feeling that must be when somebody comes in 100 swinging as hard as they can and you shut them down changes the momentum completely for the team so ten serving seven here's another guy that can do some damage from the service line yakatella and boy was he fantastic last week particularly on night two against ucsd he was just everywhere a little bit of this little bit of that he was sprawling out making saves he was very offensive minded he was just fantastic all around he really was i thought his defense was pretty spectacular as well he led the team and dig that i think was the first night with 12 digs [Applause] there he is gassman in the middle and he's just able to dunk it down that big 610 frame coming over the top as gasman starting his 114th career match and the connection here real good with gasman the the set from jacob tella who has so many options on this team offensively 11 serving eight the deep breath taken in by cowell before unleashing it across the net outside that's olivier great up by chaz galloway high ball goes to rado he goes cross court and handcuffs torwee and hawaii up four galloway just digging that ball heavy heat on it he just took that easily here on the replay he gets off the net and just pops that ball up and a beautiful set from the very back line from tella toronto so here is kyle 12 serving eight service error hawaii 9-0 to start the season for the third straight year under head coach charlie wade they have had a tremendous amount of success and this has become the preeminent rivalry i think from the vantage point of both of these programs as they look through the net at one another will be dug up the return was a little confusing olivier sort of whiffed on it and it still trickled over the net and went down on the hawaii side so not the highlight reel put down for olivier but the same type of statistic i didn't think that word was good a little bit of a whiff he didn't get a whole hand on it and it did trickle down and still a kill tell a against a double block off the fingertips could chase down by the libero mason briggs and then they're going to call a violation against long beach state and so the point goes to hawaii and alan knight would like an explanation he's definitely jumped out of his chair very quickly he's wondering if it was on the set or was it a lift on the hitter but since we can't see his lips we can't read the lips and we really don't know what he's asking sid church the r1 ernie ho the r2 ryan scudder randy rubinol need to find judges so we take a look and yeah i think that is the call they're going to say that he guided it a little bit so a lift call against holdaway it was a hold away well done yep i'm holding it i mean sometimes it just happens so organically doesn't it right here's galloway up on springs good dig there by briggs right side that's torwee dug up on his knees by gage warsley here's rado with three blockers up gets the touch and it's a point for hawaii and patapunov now with four kills on seven swings and you can start sensing the energy across the net both teams having high energy kind of saying in no touch yelling across the net a little confusion these teams tend to start smart talking under the net oh sure there is no love lost in this rivalry i mean these two teams bring out the most competitive aspect of one another as evidenced perhaps by that serve by patapunov for an ace and hawaii gets to 15 first in the first rainbow warrior volleyball on spectrum sports is sponsored by bank of hawaii [Music] welcome back it's 15 serving 11. in favor of hawaii there's radopatapunov that last service ace and this is a big mahalo courtesy or good buddy on radio tiff wells that last service ace gave rado 101 for his career passing both yuval kotz and si ron leone for sixth place all time in uh program history as that one is hammered down by spencer olivia olivia coming out of the back court hitting what they call that big really nice and with authority [Applause] so olivier now with four kills no hitting errors yet on eight swings so hitting 500 see the numbers he's been putting up passed by cowell tight to the net outside it goes to galloway the up there by hold away and that's going to end up a hawaii point there was a little confusion there on the long beach side but hawaii up four yeah i think there was a net violation on long beach in the hawaii player i believe it was uh chaz galloway kind of questioning like hey what happened just here it came under the net don't you guys see this it was pretty blatant from that angle for sure so here is chaz galloway very well could have been the big west conference freshman of the week last week i think charlie wade certainly uh would have campaigned on his behalf it did go to the guy on the other side of the net clark godbold but uh you'd imagine those two will be in consideration here for the next few weeks of the regular season for that award definitely you know what charlie wade says he's just such a unique talent i felt like he he deserved the love last week and he and he didn't get it but you know what he's gonna get it trust me well into the match for the first time the hawaii guy for long beach state ethan siegfried 6-1 senior out of punahou won three state titles with the buff and blue and here's guillermo voss behind the setter that time able to put the hammer on it i think that's one of his best hits in general hitting the back one behind the center they connect so well and they really mess up the defense on the other side he basically had nobody upgraded [Applause] and so into the match and back to serve spirul's hawkis freshman from greece he was a big west conference freshman of the week to start the month of march and the true freshman at that right side and that is god bold sends it long tried to avoid the block there they're going to say that he got a piece colton cowell vehemently disagreeing and we may get a challenge here charlie wade jumping out of his chair along the bench area and he grabs the very symbolic replay challenge paddle and that's such an advantage in so many ways that you can challenge that you can have that challenge three in every match and charlie wade really believes in his players so when they turn and they say coach no no no he jumps for the paddle and i think there's oftentimes a natural reaction from players to just automatically disagree with the ruling often times but you're also talking about a guy who's been around this program he's experienced just about everything there is to experience on the floor and so you trust a guy like colton cowell a little bit more when he comes down from this jump and says no nobody got a piece of this from that replay it is hard to tell this is probably the most difficult replay challenge to handle from the officiating standpoint the slow motion and looking for touch is what you're looking for is a little deflection in the bulb it changes direction just a little but unless it's definitive like you've always said quinoa they can't change the ruin and yes their volleyball players are taught to come down and swing saying no touch it's a little drama involved in it as well you see it all the time with basketball you know driving to the hoop oh yeah i mean you're trying to earn the call in your favor or the no call in your favor and i would say from that angle in particular cold call me colton cowell may have a good beef they may and the one thing is that's great about these challenges that you can challenge the one thing i don't like is it changes the momentum of the game completely so if the call doesn't go your way everybody's kind of cool down and if you're the momentum is going your way it immediately shifts and a lot of that also contingent on just you know how close the play is how many looks are required and we're going to get the overturned call so it is an out ball and a point for hawaii and instead of 14 serving 17 it is hawaii up a handful here and office getting ready to serve so a successful challenge there for charlie [Applause] 18 serving 13. layout past there olivier he gets the bump set from siegfried in the back row blocked by gasping pinballed around gasman just playing ping-pong up there sends it back dug up there by rado sotella tight to the net trying to set kyle a little off balance and they're going to call tella for the miss hit a double hit violation and it belongs to long beach state aiden knight snuck into the game as a setter he came in for ryan poole coach's son aiden knife a freshman player actually tops in the ncaa coming into this week an assist per set 11.9 and that serve goes just long from godbolt so hawaii back up five but a good spot by ubiso yeah eight and night from huntington beach california and the son of the head coach alan knight saying it's a bit of a trick to be coaching your son but he doesn't work directly with the setters so he says it's a little bit easier from that standpoint i'm able to treat him like a player when we're in the practice or game environment and then i put the dad hat on every other time yeah it must be a very interesting interesting place in the gym with father and son but he said you know he chose this sport when we went to the olympics in 2012 he came back and he was dialed in this is what i want to do dad i want to play volleyball i saw that put down by olivier that was forceful for sure middlesex into the net and a little surge here by long beach state to get back within three the set a little too low for gasman although he's chuckling at it right now let's see if jakarta goes back out goes back to him and it is to serve 16 serving 19. it's a good one cowell had to chase it down tella goes backside high ball to powell down the line and wide no touch up front and so it is now a 3-0 run for the beach and that will prompt a timeout from charlie wade so things getting tight here in the first welcome back let's take a look at the jack fact a godzilla versus kong matchup indeed long beach state in hawaii the series since 2018 has featured six matches longer state winning four hawaii winning two six matches involving the abca number one ranked team five matches decided in the fifth set [Applause] those two wins by the way both occurred here in this building one was a regular season win five setter one was for the big west conference championship in 2019 in fact hawaii held two of the three losses that long beach state had during the course of those two back-to-back championship seasons so credit hawaii for being one of the very few who were able to get the better of long beach state in those years at least on those nights but of course the beach would have the last lap and right there simon anderson extends this beach run to four and they're within one here lisa and you know what back to your point kanoa it's so much about the energy and the fans here at the home court when they win at home they win so much with the energy of the fans behind them goes wide from the outside pin and all of a sudden we are tied five straight long beach state points and the body language on either side has completely shifted gears again the momentum changing some unforced errors all starting from the back line right now with simone anderson really putting pressure serving tough first touched by cow over hawaii again out of system they go high baldorado three blockers up and it doesn't matter he's able to put down his fifth kill of the evening doing a nice job getting to not a perfect pass but he gets there and he is rado parapoon up just enough room off the net so he can use the hands off the block so here is colton cowell to serve nine service aces coming into tonight's match on the season a little set and the one hand saved by kyle off of the unleashing put down by holdaway thumbs up empty and so we're tied again and it looks like we are in for one of those opening set photo finishes that's what it boils down to almost every time with long beach state no matter what the rankings hawaii coming in at one long beach at seven they're always gonna battle and here is siegfried the punahou graduate who has always had quality matches it seems against hawaii there's patapono off the fingertips of the block diving layout save tory goes over the net hawaii with the advantage backside rattle the block is late but a good up there by siegfried cross court bump set goes to olivier two hands save their worsely back though set by jasmine so a little joust at the net the beach now on the attack here's olivier against a double block what a save there by worsley thumb said galloway from off the floor is blocked and roofed [Music] tori getting a good piece of that one got some serious defense on both sides of the net chaz galloway really had nowhere else to go on that play and so long beach state leads for the first time in this opening frame and we have a timeout slowing things down definitely coach charlie wade and staff gonna call his team down and make a strategic plan right now things seem to be operating fairly smoothly for the rainbow warriors until that run by long beach state now you look at some of the stats hawaii hitting 167 versus long beach states 185 here in this first set well it's interesting i'm thinking that hawaii if they can get that first pass it'd be nice to see them implement the bic the back row attack they haven't used that and they're getting a little predictable if you will so they're gonna have to change something up here in order to slow the momentum down and get the ball back on their side of the court that's a good point they haven't been able to take advantage of maybe two of the better bit hitters in the country in colton cowell and chaz galloway be a part of the game get your fan cut out for all games at the simplify arena at stan sheriff center visit hawaiiathletics.com and click on fan zone for details on how to purchase your cutout [Music] cutouts got some great seats especially for a match like this these tickets would never come very easy long beach state versus hawaii guaranteed it would probably be sold out yeah yeah that's that's really again just one of the unfortunate aspects of this whole thing spencer olivier with that with the arm swing five kills on 13 attacks he is still error-free hitting 385 he's impressive that is for sure he's carrying a huge load right now for his team he has his team up a point 21 serving 20. hawaii led by as many as five long beach state has stormed back into the scene here lincoln siegfried who's been waiting patiently for another opportunity to serve it up gets ready 21 serving 20. first touch by kyle will take to the net it's gassman gets it down [Applause] it was called in the long beach state bench all in unison say that it was out and in fact it is being automatically overturned without a review you had sid church the r1 who decided maybe along with the indication from ernie holm across the way that it was in fact wide and charlie wade got up and he asked his team hey what'd you guys see do i call this or not he had the paddle in his hand and he went and back and put the pedal down 22 serving 20. an opportunity there for hawaii missed siegfried another quality served hello backside tirado blasted off of god bold back over the net where does telego this time back to rado and he bounces it off of the terraflex that was monstrous that was beyond monstrous except take that hunky-taki i mean if you could hear the thunder explode on that ball even long beach state when they turned around and saw where that ball went [Applause] pulled away just kind of chuckled like oh my goodness and so we have phillip coming in to serve for hawaii in a very critical juncture of this first set we saw him in a somewhat similar situation into the match last week it didn't work out so well on his first service attempt and this one goes into the net this time he had a much better approach to the ball last time he actually tripped up a little bit on his own feet and stumbled but you know what he's worked so hard to get himself back onto the court and wants to contribute you're absolutely right i mean this is a guy who went through a pretty significant illness in the off season and lost a bunch of weight and it's been a process for him to get back involved and in the mix and hopefully he's able to translate that into some greater playing time because he is a very high quality volleyball player as colton cowell goes off the block and out and flashes the smile the haleakala hammer out of the backcourt [Applause] so 22 serving 23. rattle with the serve great first pass there by the beach outside it is godfold pounding it off of the block and out and all of a sudden the beach has aloha fall in its favor in the first frame god gold the 6'5 freshman really carrying a heavy load his dad was also a volleyball player who played at pepperdine his mom played tennis at ohio state excuse me idaho state and his older brother plays basketball so he's got a pretty athletic family state serving for set one out of system it goes to galloway he's blocked good cover there by worsley by the way a second crack at it off the block and just out that one was almost slow motion as rado was letting it bounce but it is a hawaii point and galloway back to serve some of his expressions are almost comical rado you know he's got such a personality he really does where's his emotion on his sleeve as many of these players for what you do here is galloway tickles the tape middle set that's anderson great up there worsely can they cover them no they cannot and long beach state makes a statement here in set number one and this rivalry renewed as they come from behind trailing by as many as five to take the first frame 25. [Music] welcome back just the fourth set that hawaii has given up here this season for long beach state they come in they rally after getting down five in the first frame and they uh set the tone a little bit and lay the gauntlet down and they obviously send the message to hawaii to garner their attention to say hey this is a new year we maybe don't have some of the headliners that we had a few years ago when we were racking up championships but we're here to play as you see max rosenfeld onto the floor here to start set number two radopatapunov still doing his thing hitting just 286 though that which by his standards is actually a bit of a dip it is six kills and 14 attempts they're going dorado often and long beach is slowing him down but boy when he does get a hold of the ball he's got some serious heat behind it but what would you say was the biggest challenge for hawaii and just closing that first set because things seem to be operating at a pretty smooth level for the most part until the latter stages they did they got out to a great start but then all of a sudden they had a little hiccup they tripped up on some unforced errors a couple of missed serves hitting like three balls out in a row that really just set them into too many unforced errors all at once [Applause] but also the middles were not a factor they really you know they hit zero voss hit at zero percent and patrick gassman's hitting at negative three three three hence i think the substitution possibly we may see rack max rosenfeld in a little later look like he was out there and we will see him as the rotation occurs here is iacoptella starts set number two highball goes out to olivier good up there by khal tight to the net we're gonna have a net violation and it's gonna go against the beach and so hawaii as they did in the first set they get on the board first you know i'd also like to see jacob to be more aggressive when he's in the front court and go after that second ball like coach charlie wade shared he wants him to attack that second ball good pass there by briggs on a tough serve by tella olivier against three blockers is dug up by worsley here's rado out of system into the twine now that is something that rado has been doing at an incredible level this season his out of system hitting numbers might be might dare we say even better coming into this match than what he has done when they've been in system yeah he has really improved on that it's an unforced error again we don't see that often from ratto doing that on the transition play it wasn't there for him that time here's attella backside cow will come swooping in and goes off the block and out well the ankle looks okay and that's good news for hawaii we'll see uh after he plays through this match as as far as this possibly goes uh how that sucker is feeling in the morning but as of now colton cowell still able to do his thing two serving one the rolls serve and it is denied by the very tip top of the tape well a good idea to try to mix things up to get long beach state out of system instead of blasting away he took something off but again inside out scoring you miss it they're the ones that benefit so here is ryan poole into the net it goes so ryan poole the first setter once again out there for the beach here in set number two gave way to aiden knight for a time in the first frame yeah according to coach knight they really are trying to fit the different pieces of the puzzle they've got all these different athletes that have so much talent but he's still trying to figure out exactly where everybody belongs on the court good pass there outside it goes to torwee he uses his left hand rattled around and returned so the beach now in transition let's go right side here's olivier and he goes off the block and out you know james anastasia is part of our pre-game and post-game crew he pointed out something and as this match has has progressed i think it becomes more and more evident he says if you squint your eyes at spencer olivier just the arm swing just the whippiness just some of his frame it kind of reminds you of tj defalco he's not obviously comparing him to you know as accomplished a player as the falco was but i think there's a there's something to be said about the similarities the shades if you will of the falco winners game very much very confident super long arms hangs up there a little extra long i thought you were going to point out the james his brother alexander is on this team but is not on this trip unfortunately you know he a red shoe excuse me redshirt jr who ended up having to have shoulder surgery and was going to be a huge contributing factor to this team dug up by rado yeah that's a bummer would have been cool to see james setting up a little bit of the alex anastasiadas analysis prior to the match backside torwy through the block pancake save attempt for powell comes up empty and we are trading blows here in set number two got some serious size across the head here's holdaway out of huntington beach high school wanted prep program as galloway is able to blast it off the block and out galloway's been steady that's his third kill on seven swings also has three digs to his stat line and now we'll retreat back to serve by the way big west conference all freshman team selection a year ago 13 kills hit 417 night one against ucsd last week knight two in the hanoho nine kills hit 400. as anderson hits it into the net so an unforced hitting error on the beach side from a veteran middle mind you and ryan poole's giving him a set again a little too low for the height the extension there we haven't seen a lot of that from the middles on the opposite opposite side six serving four passed by olivier on the money middle set that's anderson blocked back by rosenfeld and a free chance here for hawaii tella goes bick to galloway through the block and down there it was and i think that's exactly what hawaii needs to do is continue to move the ball around a little bit more there's so many offensive threats but the big has proven over and over again especially with chaz galloway and colton cal to be very effective and it is different when galloway comes leaping in right that broad jump as that one on the serve misses wide it ends up being almost a two set in the way that like the positioning of where he hits it from behind the three meter line like it's amazing it is and you know for the blocking team the opponents it is so hard to read that because the middle blocker is holding them still how about the pass there by worsely high ball goes to cowell dug up by briggs a couple of great libero's battling in this one and then through the block and down godbold gets the point for long beach state and that's exactly it probably two of the best lump arrows in the big west right now out here briggs and gage worsely they're just going at it kind of those unsung heroes as well because they've passed primarily so many balls and come up with so many balls yeah worsely first team avca all-american last year you have mason bridge second team abca all-american last year [Applause] moorsley back bump set rado has to just two-hand it over and he mishit it [Applause] so again just a little sloppy in pieces for hawaii and somewhat uncharacteristic i think the serve receive which has usually been so trustworthy hasn't been quite as consistent tonight for the rainbow warriors among some other issues the 49ers really putting them in pressure from behind this service line and there's rado and the fixer that radopatapunov tends to be when everything else breaks down just eyeball it to the big fella and he comes through on that occasion it is eight serving seven and max rosenfeld back behind the service line that's one of the hardest working players in the gym according to coach charlie wade one of the most improved for sure in the off season olivier left hands it over roddo with the save tella goes outside it's cowl off the fingertips the cover there in the deep corner by briggs here's godbold the dink shot right there is patapunov so tella goes outside again to call a little tight to the net tela this time sets up the d set to rado and he's able to get it through the block and down and rado got that ball through with pure physical physical power i mean he blasted that ball it was not a great set he had zero approach going into that ball but somehow he manages probably due to his weight room work to plunge it through nine kills now for otto and rosenfeld deals an ace out of the deck rosenfeld with a 65 mile per hour ace at that [Applause] you can see the reaction of the bench makua morimoto and company [Applause] revved up ten serving seven and into the net it goes charlie wade has said about max rosenfeld he just always seems ready and willing to elevate his game to that next level i think having so much competition at the middle position in the form of guys like guillerme vos it has pushed everyone involved into just bettering their game you can throw alaka itada as another guy that's in the mix as far as that competition is concerned as colton cowell goes off the hands and out for his fifth put down and you're right i think when you have so much depth in your gym what it does is it breeds players to just continue to fight for positions and it helps the younger players get better faster so here is teller sick sick sophomore from tensburg [Applause] the norway going at it from middle back passed by olivier it's a beauty right side that is poor we sending it down the line it's rado now from the opposite end for hawaii and again just sheer power and force that we are seeing from radopatapunov right now yeah he has come ready for this game that is obvious he is blasting away that actually went off of the forehead of olivier 12 serving 18 yards pointing to where it did get a piece of olivier [Applause] thanks by briggs and a solo stuff you could hear that from where we're at not at home maybe as much as we just heard it but boy he got a hold of that block yeah if there is one silver lining for the fans not being here you can hear these thuds even more echo throughout high school sports is back next thursday it's a double header of ilh volleyball as kamehameha takes on iolani the action starts with the boys at 4 45 p.m followed by the girls only on spectrum oc 16. isn't that nice to say we're talking about sports and the prep level as well it's awesome people back playing competing these two teams have been competing on this floor tonight hawaii up five though matching their largest lead of set number one they would end up losing that first set 25-23 but the outball and that's another point for hawaii stella is doing a nice job keeping that serve in after the timeout and keeping some pressure on long beach by the way that solo block on olivier byrado prior to the timeout that was the first hitting error of the night for spencer olivier [Applause] outside here he is against two blockers no hitting error there it goes right down kalakaua avenue and 20 attempts already so far [Music] it's a lot of balls to swing out radar pune is a 22 attempt so far [Applause] these will be the primary weapons used especially with these two teams that tend to serve the ball so effectively the pass there by cowell oh that back row set to galloway little off target so chance here for the beach olivier threw the block and down kill number eight for spencer olivier i think you made a really good observation kanoa when you talked about if you do squint your eyes a little bit that he does remind you a little bit of tj defalco and you had a little somebody whispering oh yeah yeah i i sighted and attributed one james anastasiatis for that comparison here's gasman and he plugs it through the block and down hawaii gets to 15 first here in the second we'll take a timeout can hawaii finish the deal in set two [Music] on the next culture eyes kalenna de lima from the musical group kapena discusses hawaiian music culture tune in tomorrow at 4pm exclusively on spectrum oc 16. hitting 389 in this second set compared to zero five nine for long beach state out of the timeout colton cowell hawaii up five with the server sort of the save there worsely backed up by cowell a little back and forth at the net beach now with it and they go back row it is tour we dug up by tella so kyle takes on the setting responsibilities sets up rado who's blocked back how about worsely the back set to galloway and everybody interchanging roles on that sequence for hawaii that was a really fun rally for this team because everybody was contributing and it just goes to show this team is so familiar with one another for gage worsley to know exactly where chaz galloway was with the jump back set to him [Applause] so crafty [Applause] over on two attempt there by the setter pool but hawaii you read it pretty well however the block red radopatapunov pretty well for long beach state three blockers up on him a beautiful set by colton cal his second back-to-back set up for auto but boy that's a big block for odder to get through and so now we'll have the substitution of aid and knight into the match and back to serve so they've switched it around to be like a 6-2 if you will using two setters right now with with ethan siegfried coming in to play in the front court he led their team last year and kills galloway good run up there off the launch pad galloway now with six put downs he is hitting up near 400. [Applause] for 17 to be exact on 12 attempts just one hitting error chaz galloway doing this as a second year freshman mind you there's gasman great pass there briggs outside siegfried [Applause] oh again he has seemingly been at his best in matches against hawaii you want to rewind back to april 13th of 2019 and he had a then career-high 16 kills and 10 digs for a double double against the rainbow warriors outside galloway up in the stratosphere unloads he just makes it look so darn simple it's crazy beautiful set by it jacob galloway up and over i mean that is freaky ability off the bounce i think he's going to get a few votes this week as a freshman 18 serving 12 in an ace verrado his second of the match splitting the seam aiming between players creates a lot of confusion when you're serving from that middle back largest lead of the match for hawaii 1912 in a time out for long beach state so it's one thing when you're in that back service line to serve right at a player it's a whole nother when you're serving what we call between the scenes all right well let's check in with ryan kelly suji what's up well during the time miles coach alan knight primarily spending time talking to steam about their blocking saying that they're blocking on the long beach side is not adequate enough he's saying that they need to do a better job of getting their hand positioning over the net to try to stop rada parapoon off so spending the last two prior timeouts primarily focusing on ways to stop uh rado and also interesting to note no love loss between these two teams of course we talked about the competitiveness but the chirping between the chirping between the net continues especially with simone anderson a player who played back in 2019 and a lot of the returning players from hawaii uh there is a lot of emotion going on on both sides of the net back over to you guys yeah you look back on some of those titanic matchups right in big west tournament play national championship play and uh you know in those days where you had kyle insane you had tj defalco joshua ninga like there was so much communicating quote unquote through the net between these two teams and so obviously that is seemingly a tradition that has continued yes since that 2019 national title match up and actually somehow long beach just does it to every team i don't know what it is about long beach state but they definitely bring that out in their opponents because i remember watching them in the national championship against ucla and it was the same thing well it's part of their persona right it is they they are a program that in very recent history just ran the thing and so they are coming from that vantage point hawaii trying to take their place if you will atop not just the conference but as national champions this year as well so uh yeah a lot at stake and a lot of pride for sure that that battle for almost bragging rights and and just to hold the title of that reputation of being the big dog [Applause] that's why this rivalry tends to be so darn fun to watch dig there gage warsley doing it again wrist away and a huge swinging celebration from patapunov after the fact he's just so strong and so forceful at the net a beautiful set hitting out in back court showing a little emotion 11 kills so he has now hit in double figures in 16 straight matches going back to last season also two kills away from surpassing jonas all time in kills in hawaii program history [Applause] sets up rado oh the net denied him that time as he tried to avoid that triple block well that time he was actually in the backcourt the one prior to that he wasn't my bad on that but he dropped his elbow a little a little low set a little frustrated with himself [Music] with 11 kills so far we will see him climbing the record books in a lot of different categories here before it's done for him as cowell comes flying in from behind the three meter line golden cowl has it wrapped up as well six kills for him just one error on 12 swings and hawaii up 21-13 [Applause] powell hitting 4-17 so you have carlo and galloway both above 400. that may have been an outball played by olivier here's siegfried from the opposite position dug up by rado would appear tella highball outside kyle the touch diving save there by knight but a free chance here for hawaii middle set rosenfeld rips into it and hawaii running away here in this second set rosenfeld doing a fabulous job in the middle always driving hard getting his first kill on the eve jacotella setting him perfect set splits the blockers so hawaii increases its largest lead so far this match they are up nine here's galloway without a system for the beach they go to god bold cross court and wide point for the rainbow warriors [Music] and so for as much of a statement as long beach state made in the first frame hawaii on the verge of making quite the rebuttal if you will absolutely and long beach struggling making those unforced heirs right now consistently hitting out that's an ace chas galloway from the service line was points scoring around maybe even better than 50 percent from the service line last week i mean he was stringing him together you know he has come so far in his short period as a as a freshman due to coven secured his starting role that's for sure aloha ball in the second for hawaii simone anderson will delay things at least momentarily and he is still [Applause] [Music] engaging in quite a bit of monologuing i think it's just in his blood that's what he knows you gotta love him heck of a player the overpass chance here for the beach middle set anderson misses wide no touch that's a point for hawaii and they finished the deal in set number two so what did we expect it's hawaii and long beach state it is tied at one set of peace it behooves all of you to get comfy because we could have a good old-fashioned battle of beasts in the big west welcome back let's take a look at the mcdonald's match statistics so hawaii and long beach state split the first two sets set two was pretty much all the rainbow warriors well definitely if you look at the kills 28 kills that's pretty huge kill percentage not as high as we've seen hawaii but surprisingly enough blocked both teams with two blocks i had assumed we may have seen a few more blocks over hawaii out digging long beach state which coming in long beach state led the big west in digs so interesting numbers all the way around hawaii hitting 379 in that second set chaz galloway keeping it going some of the momentum that he was able to build last week against uc san diego seven kills to this point he's hitting a fat 462. he's leading all players right now and hitting percentages [Music] just one error for the freshman and then another guy who's been putting in work in a different aspect of the game gage worsley he has a couple of assists he has seven digs and what he's been doing in serve receive it has been yeoman's work it really has gage is so quick to the ball and he has so many years of experience he just makes it look easy but he really runs that back court you see him playing middle back left back not very often right back every once in a while he does but i'll tell you what he's always talking and communicating with his players 6-1 still listed as a junior because of the covid eligibility season from moraga california this will likely be his last year though with this program he will get many opportunities to play overseas he is also on schedule to graduate his brother joe the fabulous setter for this program he is playing in germany and so the future's certainly bright for this guy but uh yeah those those are going to be some of the indelible images that gage worsley has provided for the volleyball community here and when it is time to bid him aloha uh he will be sorely missed that's for sure he really will and you know his parents i know are watching christine and roger worsley and his dad coached him for years along with joe but they are just hoping and praying along with everybody else that they get to come out for senior night that spectators will be allowed i mean just what he does in terms of the energy he brings the enthusiasm it's non-stop quite the character that's right so here we are the onset of set number three and colton cowell starts off set three the way he started off set one with the opening point colon call remember a reminder he uh appeared to tweak his ankle in warm-ups actually came down up against the net pole and appeared to twist his ankle a little bit he got to re-tape then remove the tape so still out there it hasn't hindered him too much as that one is put down by clark gob doing a nice job again swinging mostly from that right side the number one recruit it's got lots of experience played on the junior national team scramble play here for hawaii and patapono gets the touch he still gets the kill [Applause] do you think he's having fun yet him and pat gaston been through some battles together that's for sure and many of those battles were with the team that's across the net two serving one twelve kills now for padapunov here's cowell right side set that's olivier you smacks at home [Applause] jasmine over running that a little late getting out there but basically takes out galloway on that play helping him back up so aidan knight starting out there at setter here in this third set for long beach state when you see him move around you can see he still favors that left ankle and in fact was wearing a very unique looking brace between sets two and three while he was out there i guess just to keep it compressed but you see him walking it's likely heavily taped and so you can see it is affecting him to a certain degree and he has been doing a nice job when he's on the court but you definitely can see there is a little bit of almost a limp to that anchor overpass patapono couldn't put it home credit nate for keeping it alive free chance though here for the bose cowl from the back row on two wow look like a beach volleyball play if i ever saw one why play three when you can play two absolutely just a perfect very smart set to the hitting shoulder of colton cowell so four serving two colton with eight kills hitting 467 gasman to serve and put a little gas on it that one registered at 65 miles an hour and the swing goes long from olivier they wanted to touch from the official they're not gonna get it so hawaii up 5-2 early in the third and some communication over on the other side of the net i think they may be challenging that last play i think you're right alan knight former coach of the u.s national team took the men's team to the olympics in london in 2012 as experienced as they come [Applause] he also played on the national team in 1992 through i believe it was 96 not positive of those dates but you know he's got a lot of volleyball experience behind him so they're challenging the touch here on the olivier swing and this may be an even easier review to confirm for ernie ho if it is a challenge of the touch unless they're challenging the in-out call but there does not appear to be a touch and it looks close to that back line so i think it may be asking that it's in but we're gonna find out right now drum roll please oh and a touch is called [Music] wow interesting call [Applause] [Applause] three serving four [Applause] outside here's galloway we have a whistle it'll be a net violation called against long beach state so the hawaii side is going to claim a little athletic justice served there as hawaii gets the point five serving three [Applause] long beach state interesting serve receive formation they're going with four serve receives on rado's serve [Applause] [Music] middle set touched over by hold away outside here's galloway the quick bounce and they're gonna say that that went long and so a point for long beach state that one was pretty close to the end line and we may get a challenge from charlie wade interestingly enough galloway is feeling like there was a touch on that [Music] and i believe they are challenging that they're going to challenge the in-out call so let's do this again shall we we'll go into hana ho mode and i'm just staying away from this i don't botch it huh let it be let ernie ho do his job earlier in that last challenge patrick gasman walked over and looked at us and said was it in was there a touch he was looking at us to help him because he knows that we see the replay well he can't trust my judgment because clearly i did not see a touch on that last one this one i don't want to do it i i just i should just avoid but that looks in from that angle does it not it does but you know it seems like every time we make a prediction it's the opposite so i wouldn't go down that road [Applause] that's why i don't do too well in vegas either i think yeah we'll stay away then i mean that right there that looks in to me looks from that angle at least pretty definitive [Applause] but all paying attention here hurry up and wait for the decision by one ernie ho veteran volleyball referee all right see if this angle paints a broader picture there's a a nice duck by ayden knight little that one won't be conclusive because mason briggs the libero sort of blocking that angle [Applause] [Music] he was an all-american second team last year they will say it's an in goal so a point for hawaii so the challenges are successful on both sides in the end we're basically just even steven and here we are back at 6 30. they call it a wash [Applause] [Music] getting ready to serve and again long beach state going with four man serve received this one out of system after that first olivier touch so a free chance coming here for the bose tele goes middle to rosenfeld and some high cheddar on the freshman center eight and ninth rosenfeld getting a nice connection in the middle with pella perfect free ball pass gage worthley taking that ball with his hands on his knees seven serving three and yeah there does seem to be a pretty good connection between tella and rosenfeld obviously benefiting from the free ball and the opportunity to really square up on that middle set [Applause] good pass there by siegfried he gets the set on the outside against the solo block attempt of tella and they're gonna say that it goes off of teles block and actually got a piece of siegfried so it's a point for hawaii and a timeout called by alan knight but all of a sudden hawaii has opened up an early five-point advantage so give the roof to jacob get the greatest plays hardest hits and schedule info by following spec sports high on instagram facebook and twitter long beach stayed in hawaii the beach coming in seventh ranked in the country hawaii top ranked still unbeaten so far this year at 9-0 [Music] splitting the first two sets 25-23 in favor of the beach in the first after rallying from down by as many as five hawaii ran away in the second 25-14 and they're up a handful here already in the third but they're going to call an interference violation against chaz galloway i imagine when you can jump that high off the ground it becomes that much more of a temptation to reach across the plain of the net exactly it the ball is coming your way of course you want to reach over and grab it so the point for the beach there four serving eight high ball goes two galloway goes cross court two hand save olivier here's siegfried against a triple block and he makes it work siegfried the 6-1 outside he hit her out of punahou doing a nice job tooling the block the hawaii block knowing that his parents i'm sure are watching and wishing that they could be here i'm kidding you mentioned three state titles for punahou and volleyball also paddled and kayaked in high school won a state title in paddling quite the athlete well you know it surprises me often times when you have athletes here in hawaii that don't do those other sports why not paddle if you live on an island get out there and go [Applause] good serve there by galloway cross court set from god bold to siegfried blocked and roofed smothered by a triple block of the rainbow warriors hawaii low in tight with the triple block here on the replay you can take a look ethan zigfried doing hitting a little low but a very tough ball to hit coming from behind him so colton cowell got the gist of that next to max rosenfeld in the middle ten serving five [Applause] here's godbold off-balance approach dug up by galloway there is the over on two attempt by tella siegfried trying to play back the other way one hand save by worsley high ball outside set cowell along the back line it's saved by briggs back row circles to god bold a little heavy handed on that one saved by worsely here's rado gets it down in front of that back line 13 kills for radopatapunov and that officially puts him in 13th place on the career kills list at the university of hawaii surpassing juanionis that's a crazy hit by him and he is having fun he's owning it he's yelling up to the audience who's behind us kanoa [Applause] outside touched over by siegfried little miscommunication by the beach can hawaii make him pay cowell unloads rosenfeld on the overpass rattled around tella finishes the deal some serious bombs going off seriously you're right [Music] the level keeps going up higher and higher yeah both sides they are just ripping right now a four-point run here and again chas galloway helping to guide it from the service line they go back row olivier he sends it long no touch point for hawaii and they have distanced themselves significantly here in the early stages of this third set created a really nice separation galloway doing a good job from the service line but also in the back the middle back of the court and galloway into the net but another strong service run for chaz galloway we saw it a multitude of times last week seeing it again here this evening yet another aspect of what he brings to the table very dynamic player very unique talent [Applause] so six serving 13 here siegfried passed by worsley is a good one tella outside the cowl and hawaii handling serve receives so much more consistently it seems here in this stage of the match i agree you know they just seem in system all of a sudden in the past is on target it's giving jakob tella many opportunities to distribute his sets all over the court and the proof is in the statistics hawaii nine kills as a team just one error hitting 500 here in set three as holdaway couldn't get it down cowell has to just two hands set it over so chance here for the beach godfall from the back row blocked and stopped pat gassman saying [Applause] and hawaii gets to 15 first the rainbow warriors in the groove right now [Music] on the next it's a hawaii thing brook and lanai talk with actress tamlin tomita on reprising her karate kid part 2 role in the netflix series cobra kai check it out monday night at 6 30 exclusively on spectrum oc 16. [Applause] out of the timeout spencer olivier putting the hurt on that set he's been somewhat quiet here in the third he now has 11 kills in 25 attempts just hold away with the serve galloway puts the pass on the money and then colton cowell goes off the block and out and that is the clockwork rhythm that this hawaii team is capable of when they are locked in in serve receive and that time it was chas galloway and they just continue to be in system right now they're passing well they're communicating very well the beach go middle and that is anderson sent back by pat gassman and they're blocking well all of a sudden we went from two blocks in between games before this game and now they have six blocks that's pretty huge pat gassman who's climbing some rungs in the record books himself particularly in that blocks category with the stuff there god bold that was a blasty blast but great up by worsely set was over the net so hawaii's going to get another stab at it here's cowell off the block and down colton cowell now with 11 kills he is hitting up near 500 for the match he's just having his way out there on the outside doing a phenomenal job seeing the court so well swinging away when he has the opportunity or using the block how about that dig by gage worsley on what was a serious hammer off the palm of clark godbold earlier in that sequence here's olivier three blockers up for hawaii and they eclipse the sun long beach state getting a little predictable when they're out a system the high and outside can only last so long especially with that block of gasman and rado and colton enormous block to get around largest lead tonight for hawaii they're up a dozen that middle set a little high there for anderson so hawaii trying to play it back rado has to just dink it over it's rattled around olivia going to get a swing out of it and he matches one [Music] gage was on that but olivier just annihilating that ball gage worsley actually signaling toronto my bad i should have had that one yeah he's very engaged tonight gage is hard on himself he knows that he can play better i spoke with him earlier and he just said you know i've got to do i got to play better i got to come up with more balls and the stuff pat gassman again this time next to colton cowell and right now the rainbow roofing company putting in some work [Applause] pat showing why he's the number one blocker in the nation [Applause] goes into the net [Applause] pat gassman now with five blocks colton cowell with five total blocks as well hawaii with nine total team blocks and what they have done to long beach state's offense the beach hit negative 0.48 in this third set as olivier goes into the net and you know that's a reversal of what we've seen statistically from long beach state albeit in just four previous matches against uc santa barbara and uc irvine they entered tonight as the top big west team in opponent's hitting percentage and long beach this is not typical of them i will say this is a huge gap and especially at 21-9 with hawaii serving longest state's going to just try to focus on getting some momentum heading into game four siegfried trying to provide some of that rado trying to chase down that second touch but wasn't able to save it so a point for long beach state yeah and this feels like quite the outlier this you don't see much with long beach state on the short end of such a lopsided deficit hey look every set takes on its own personality but what we saw on set number two what we've seen so far here in this third set it is made all the more pronounced because of the fact that it is long beach state over there regardless of the season you're talking about regardless of the personnel that just doesn't tend to happen to a beach team no and you know what it doesn't and the thing is they are still a pretty young team although they're not as young as they seem to be thanks to coven but they are trying to figure out their pieces of the puzzle and they've changed their setters numerous times tonight so their offense has not been as consistent yeah and the guy who was their starting setter aiden knight not playing at percent that's pretty clear with the ankles as siegfried is able to go off the block and down zigfried one of the more experienced players on the team as a senior he's got a national championship two national championships under his belt 2018 and 19. [Applause] served there by godbold put over on two by tella couldn't get it down though and then the swing by ryan goes long and as he was just trying to improvise there in that sequence it's hawaii up 23 serving 11 and here's chaz galloway and the warriors bench doing the clap on the sideline ever so encouraging [Applause] outside siegfried the big wind up and uncoil and goes down the line and him so hawaii hitting 455 in this third set just before that put down by siegfried long beach state was flatlining well that's an extreme difference with hawaii at 455 and long beach at 40. now siegfried the serve into the net and it's aloha ball in the third for hawaii [Music] and we have a serving sub here for the rainbow warriors brett sheward coming in the 6-2 red shirt frosh from newport beach california and shuei sends it over middle set and that is put down by grant morocco a new insertion into the match six seven sophomore from laguna miguel california with not a lot of playing time but you can see that coach alan knight just really trying to change things up get somebody in get other players onto the court to find a momentum switch still aloha ball for hawaii in the third outside it's kowl and he unleashes as hawaii once again wins by double digits they took the second 25-14 they take the third 25-13 and they now lead two sets to one and ryden the mode in a big way welcome back let's check out the first hawaiian bank top three hawaii career total blocks deon milidinovich is at the top of the list he's way out there 7 45 jason olive in the number two spot patrick gassman now tied for third with dio dante at 4 38 he has five blocks here this evening one more would put him alone in third but he has been all over the place getting his literal fingerprints on this match but this hawaii block as a whole now with nine total team blocks and just changes the tone changes the complexion every time they're able to block this effectively absolutely the manoa roofing company has come alive and i'll tell you what it has changed the momentum you can see what it has done to long beach state's offense currently they're hitting for the match at 123. you know they were hitting a lot more efficiently earlier but you can see the hitters now trying to work around hawaii's massive block the block obviously can be extended to the overall defensive play for hawaii 11 digs for gage worsley one of the highlight statistics in that regard definitely and as a team with 28 digs so they really are uh playing some great defense and and also transition volleyball we talk about transition volleyball we're talking about off of the dig when the setter sets one of his players one of his many threats that's what we term transition volleyball and it's a they're playing great transition volleyball in case you're wondering career high for gage worsley and diggs is 15. he's done it twice the last time against guess who long beach state back in april of 2019 and there's another block right on cue manoa roofing company continuing to dip into the toolbox [Applause] charlie wade when we talked to him earlier in the week talked about the offense of long beach state and how with a younger setter it does get a little bit more predictable so hawaii's reading the long beach state very well right now one hand set there by the center pool chance here for the bows and rodo goes wrist away he really tried to slice that angle thin but he missed wide and a point for long beach state you know rado really used to cut that that sharp angle a lot and now recently in this past two years that we've seen him he's really evolved he goes down the line deeper he really moves the ball around a lot more [Applause] siegfried to serve patella sets up verrado from the left side from off the net and he's still got it down he just has been something special throughout his career but how he has been able to take it to yet another level in this repeat senior year it's mind blowing i think this team as a whole just really feels like they have this unfinished business and they've worked really hard to be the best that they possibly can be that one is hit long but anderson got a touch some very sarcastic smiles being exchanged through the twine as tends to be the case [Applause] yeah and for hawaii you know say what you will it's a different year different team across the net but it's a chance to exercise some of the feelings that were felt losing emotional matches epic matches with a lot of stakes attached to them the last one being the national championship in 2019 a chance to further establish themselves as the team that they feel they are now which is the top of the stack exactly and they really are playing with a ton of confidence with their experience and the depth on this team alone they're just playing at almost a different level three serving two morato now with 15 kills in the match outside it goes to olivier and how about that finn slice trying to go cross court but missed wide that was about the four foot line if you will he has he's an amazing player and he's only going to get better that's what's the dangerous part about this young man yeah i mean he is still a sophomore even though this is his fourth year with the program jasmine gonna put a little extra sauce on it overpass and galloway says mahalo that's a big thank you to jasmine because gasman created that from the service line from corner to corner really putting long beach state into trouble quick hops of chas galloway and he's now into double figures and kills he has 10 put downs hitting 4 44. three players in over double digits with kills for hawaii right now great serve for gasman three walkers up on olivier i've got a good chunk of that one back set from cowell to galloway and he missed wide trying to go cross-court himself [Applause] [Music] he could almost read his lips that time telling colton colo that was perfect that set was nectar yeah [Applause] then ryan poole deals an ace out of the deck [Music] and hawaii's standing very short on serve receive right now ryan poole going back there normally in film that i was watching he did a jump float but hawaii now taking a step back but they're leaving about eight feet behind them on this serve receive [Applause] pass by cowell outside here's galloway up the ladder but he sends it out no touch and another point for long beach state so as much as we can celebrate from the hawaii vantage point what they were able to accomplish in sets two and three you know you mentioned unfinished business in the big picture for hawaii unfinished business here in this match they still have to finish the deal and that's often easier said than done you cannot take your foot off the gas with long beach state no matter how far ahead you are you cannot especially with those kinds of tide turning moments with olivier solo stuffing radobatapunov that's now four straight points for the beach he's taking away rados line he sees it early and he seals his right hand in excuse me his left hand in low and tight to the net so six serving five and that one just narrowly goes long and we're tied once again that was the first lead for long beach state in this fourth set [Music] a good service run there for ryan poole and rado now back behind the service line [Applause] see if rado can make something happen from back here [Applause] passed by siegfried tight to the net here's rado off the set from warsley pinballed around and it will be returned so hawaii has to play it back here's galloway flying in off the block siegfried the save outside it goes to god bold and that hits the pin so hawaii gets the point after a lengthy sequence you can see long beach state really rallying and trying to stay in this match right now the energy the communication non-stop with one another but a good test right a good test of grit for what is in many instances a fairly young and lesser experienced squad outside here's godbold case in point as he's able to rip into that one but this is a guy getting his first experience at the collegiate level here this season so an opportunity to see a little bit more what he may be made of in terms of the intestinal fortitude they proved a lot in their last match against uc irvine and say what you will about irvine they've dealt with some injuries at the setter position maybe not playing their best volleyball but a reverse sweep against the anteaters last week that proved a lot i think to head coach alan knife and here they are trying to hang with hawaii after really getting bowled over in the last two sets there's gobbled again and you can see hawaii getting a little bit frustrated and again the swing the pendulum turning back and forth with with the momentum interestingly enough i'm not sure why colton cal is off the court talking with coach charlie [Applause] oh there's some blood on the court and i think there was a ricochet that may have gone off the grill of colton cowell we have a look at it here looks like it goes off of gage warsley and yeah right right into the mouth of colton cowell so he's getting that tended to it's it's it has been a somewhat rough evening overall for colton i mean he's played extremely well but he had a bit of that ankle tweak during warm up siri takes one off the grill but he's playing through it this is one of the sports that you don't wear a mouth guard but pretty soon it might be the colton calgar [Applause] he seems to be all right [Music] it's been fun seeing his progression it really has he has really developed into just quite the player and from really basically a walk-on knowing what he wanted and working diligently hard for years yeah a guy who walked on primarily as a defensive specialist and here he is one of the standout pin hitters really in all of college volleyball uh that that progression and that career arc is uh not something that you see too frequently as galloway tickles the tape on the serve we're tied at eight here in the fourth there's that rainbow warrior block this time it's rosenfeld next to tella and that will give hawaii now 11 total team blocks they are really very diligent they're very uh [Applause] they're just good right now at the net they're low and tight they're disciplined that's the word i'm looking for discipline at the net the fourth lead change here in this fourth set back said it's olivier just waves at it got just enough of it to go off of tella and down and so we're tied again olivier flying out of the back court recognizing that the set wasn't exactly perfect but seeing the court again when you're coming out of the backcourt hitting you can see the court in front of you so well that's why that hit the bic as we call it is so effective olivier with 13 kills 11 starts last year led the team in kills and in that abbreviated season as well 2.9 was named an honorable mention all big west conference selection as rosenfeld just lays the lumber i'll tell you every time he gets on the court he makes himself noticed he makes something happen every single time whether it's a block a serve or a kill just ready to provide whatever charlie wade deems necessary although he hits the pin there trying to go down the line on the server so we just have seen this one go neck and neck really every step of the way in the fork [Applause] [Music] large exhale there by charlie wade as he watches on patella tried to dump it over and it was deny chance here for the beach they go back row to god bold no blockers up dug up by worsley and then put down by gasmith give that point to gage because there was no resistance at the net and he still scooped that thing yeah cageworthily read that like a book this team is so huggy you gotta love it they've constantly given each other hugs but paige just sitting there again very disciplined on his defense and gasman up and over 12 digs for gage worsely none more impressive than that one right there as anderson goes off the net and down and just sort of tightrope walk the top of the tape for a moment and we're tied at 11. and anderson not hitting high numbers right now his fifth kill on the evening usually more of a go-to player for the beach [Applause] yeah he has been one of the higher percentage pitters really in all of college volleyball the last few years as cowell goes wide at a good look at it i'll tell you that was a beautiful set by yakutella he gave him a one-on-one isolation and cal took a full swing but just a little wide so long beach state jumps ahead [Applause] and it's siegfried to serve follow the first touch tell a little out of system sets up rado he goes down the line god bold almost ducking defensively out of the way bump set goes to olivier the good up there by worsely again here's rado over the shoulder swing blocked and roofed and long beach state showing signs of life most definitely here in the four long beach state hanging hanging tight with a three-man block over rado very difficult attempt by rado paraphuna from that left side coming over his back shoulder [Applause] to the back side here's cowell two blockers up and he is roofed and it is long beach state flipping the script right now in this fourth set on hawaii the rainbow warriors trail by three [Applause] it makes you wonder if hawaii may slow things down or change things up just a little bit here the first thing they need is a first contact pass they've got to have a better pass so jacotella can run his offense and siegfried into the net and a much needed break that time for hawaii finding themselves somewhat stuck in the mud here in the fourth set but credit long beach state they could have very easily just packed this thing up and said hey we'll try again tomorrow that has not been the case no it's not i don't think ever never say never but long beach state will not pack up and just go away they've got too much history of being a team that wants it yeah that's not in their dna i would agree with you as olivier tried to slice across court missed wide 13 serving 14. [Applause] colton cowell getting ready to slap it across [Applause] eyeball outside olivier with three blockers up and it doesn't matter he's able to drill it through and long beach state gets to 15 first not ready to say good night [Music] welcome back well it was the hawaii block party for most of this match but in this fourth set long beach state they've decided to get in on the fun three blocks in the fourth frame [Music] and they lead 15-13 trying to hang tough here with hawaii leading two sets to one and sets two and three were extremely lopsided so for the long beach state beach to maintain this level of engagement in this sports set speaks volumes and for hawaii you wonder if maybe there was just a little bit of letting the foot off the gas well when you need more gas go to the gas man in the middle we talked about that early on putting starting out quickly which they did but they did take their foot off the gas a little bit in game uh two in in this game excuse me not in two and three two and three they dominated and i think they kind of went into coast or cruise control what a serve by gasman that was pretty [Music] gasping going from corner to corner with that top driven ball [Music] so we're tied for the tenth time here in this fourth frame and for pat gasman that is his second service ace of the night he now has nine on the season i'm trying to go to that deep corner again put a little too much oomph into it and so long beach state once again vaults in front [Applause] and here is ryan poole to serve 6-5 sophomore from enfield england was a decorated beach volleyball player over there as rosenfeld goes off the block and out point for hawaii again a great job driving hard in the middle hitting high and hard off the hands scoring a point for hawaii [Music] rosenfeld now with four kills on five swings can't ask him to do much more and limited opportunities rattle with the serve first touch by briggs is on the money they go right side and that time olivier hit the tape and it bounced out of bounds olivier asking for a touch on that ball but i think it was just all tape on that last play [Music] and alan knight is going to signal for a timeout so hawaii in front neck and neck in the fourth well it's been fun to watch this guy in action on the other side of the net spencer olivier he has 14 kills hitting 171 but the way he does it is interesting and reminds you of a very recent long beach state great in tj defalco and just the motion the whippiness and hey james anastasiatis who is now part of our spectrum sports crew he had a chance to coach some of these long beach state players in club volleyball and james we're going to turn your mic on give us a sense of what you see in spencer olivier yeah you know a big standout with spencer olivier is just the whippiness in his arm swing and what a great job he does with those last two steps on his step close he does a very good job at getting his feet to the ball keeping it high and being able to hit those angles we've seen tonight even though a little inconsistent maybe because he's young hitting that hard cross but he has that deep deep cross swing and that line shot i think he's going to be one to not want to mess with in the future when he gets a little more consistent with it but a huge standout to me is that whippiness that he has in his arm swinging is step close yeah he's doing a great job as a fourth year sophomore that's right that's pretty scary right there and you pointed it out prior to the match you said look at this guy if you squint your eyes it kind of reminds you of tj defalco obviously that is very high praise but you feel like there's there's some shades of that yeah there is um i mean i coached olivier his 18th year i played with tj in high school so it's pretty incredible to see the similarities in these two players [Applause] that's certainly something that long beach state would love to see further accentuated here as we move forward in the career olivier thanks james we appreciate it man thank you [Music] [Applause] here 19 serving 17 and a pretty cool resource to be able to tap into a guy who actually coached and spent some time with some of these long beach state players in their club volleyball days that's a great resource and it's actually a compliment as well because you look at the talent of tj difalco player of the year how many years two national championships changed the program at long beach state that's basically what he sees coming and olivier and his hits it into the net this is where hawaii really needs to take care of that first contact and minimize unforced errors [Applause] [Applause] high school all-american huntington beach with the serve tella out to cowell [Applause] and he put some extra sriracha on that one callum loaded on that ball for his 14th kill on the evening hitting at 385 the clip it's a nice number for one oh excuse me 407 it was just updated 14 kills 407. also 42 assists for jacob tella that ties his career high which came last week in night one against uc san diego outside siegfried that one goes off the dome of gasman and over by us [Music] just like set number one we sort of turn the final pull here in the fourth and it's anybody's set it really is it's neck and neck it's side out volleyball right now and again with side out scoring it's really who makes the least amount of errors [Applause] good sir great pass galloway outside set goes to cowell tried to roll it missed long the timing on the jump and the set wasn't quite in sync and so we are tied at 20. it's a race to five here in the four [Applause] and the rainbow warriors are going to signal for a timeout we're going to keep things here i think that's a smart timeout especially because long beach just served a bomb of a serve galloway past nails and unforced air just wants to cool things down bring things back to his side of the net both coaches talk about keeping things on our side of the net taking control of what we can control right now i think it's more take a breath refresh make a game plan and take the momentum away from long beach state well let's continue to exploit some of the other resources we have on this crew let's uh check in with ryan what's up hey thanks for now well during this time out the coaching staff for hawaii talking to jakub tella hawaii's going back and forth between a quicker outside set and a higher set that time there that last play with colton a little faster tempo and right now head coach charlie wade wants to make sure that the team and players are all on the same page for that overall tempo in the timeout prior to this tokochi starts spending most of their time talking to max rosenfeld no doubt reminding him to continue to go hard also talking about his hand position and making sure that he is effective throughout the match uh also with long beach state now and the insertion of ethan siegfried into the lineup remember this is a player that did not start in this beginning part of this match he's now in it and he is a primary pastor so long beach at times going with four passers uh in their passing rotation something that's rare but recognizing hawaii's top serve and switching to a four-man passing on their end back over to you guys good stuff thanks ryan tied at 20. and you can see both coaches the wheels turning at a feverish pace right now and trying to communicate a lot of what ryan was referring to to the players out there on the floor and as much as these two teams are rivals they are so good for each other it's crazy you know they only make each other better bottom line you're right it's it's arch nemesis stuff it's it's batman and joker right and depending on which fan base you belong to you're going to maybe have a different opinion on which one is batman and which one is the joker but it's very much that it's a symbiotic relationship as mark moody into the match for the first time 6-8 redshirt junior from orlando florida i'm sure he's being put in for blocking purposes at 6-8 into the front court he is participating in his first piece of playing time this season chance here for the beach they go to siegfried three blockers up and he's stuffed a rainbow roof when they needed it the most and there was no setter in on that last play so the libero literally came in and actually bricks came in and played as a setter role in that last play for long beach state 21-20 here's tella took a little something off middle set and the block by gasman another stuff for the big fella dominating at the net tonight with his seventh block [Applause] so seventh block of the match for gasman he is alone in third blade a place in total career blocks at the university of hawaii and those last two came at very opportune times here in this late stage of set number four gonna be put into the record books you gotta love that well we got a whole package put together here for pat gasman's blocking stats here tonight a whole lot of them seven total blocks that last one to block solo he came into this match second in the ncaa and blocks third in college volleyball in kill percentage it is what he does that big 610 frame and that's something that we've talked about at length but that in unison decision by the nucleus of that senior class last year pat gassman and colton cowell to decide almost instantaneously we're going to be granted an opportunity to come back with the support of some of the community surrounding this program we're going to have the chance to actually do that they decided yeah let's run this thing over again i think they really wanted to go forward and finish we talked about it non-stop their unfinished business but also once one committed they were kind of all in they knew what their goal was they were going after that big gold ticket the national championship and they were in the in a good running port ranked number one they're benefiting from it i think they don't want to have any regrets really that's the big thing like we have an opportunity to go forward and finish this let's let's take advantage of it because there is no going back when we talk about pat gassman in seven blocks you know colton cowell has seven total blocks in this match as well that is a career high for him so he has played very well 14 kills 357 the seven blocks bloody lip a little bit of an ankle tweak he's gonna have to ice down after this match but oh boy has he performed for the warriors so far in this one up two they go back row godfold cross court and in into double digits goes clark godbold with his 10th kill 21 serving 22. number one recruit the 6'5 freshman out of san pedro california [Applause] overpass three chance for the beach outside olivier blocked and roofed pat gassman denying access and hawaii back up a deuce and this is when pat gatrin gasman realizes he's turning into the crowd into the stands into the seats and he's like wait where'd everybody go [Applause] oh he's getting strong support from the fellas over along the bench oh they're fired up so give cowell and gassman a block assist officially they both have eight total blocks in this match here's rado and he didn't get it above the tape and a big time point for long beach state here 22 serving 23. dorado going for it on that one was swinging at full throttle literally [Music] [Applause] still with 16 kills simone anderson with the serve took a little something off to make sure it got in middle set gasman with the pounding i think he's in the zone he's locked in there's no denying that and he is back to serve aloha ball for the match those deep corner and wide out serve point beach it's not over yet and ryan pulled back to serve for long beach state was able to string together a good run earlier in this set [Applause] the deep breath here it comes passes on the money by galloway backside rado cross court wide no touch and we are tied at 24. looks like there might be a challenge on this coach charlie wade coming up grabbing the paddle and they're going to challenge the touch on that play i believe that's the third challenge [Music] [Applause] so making sure that he explicitly explains exactly what he wants to take a peek at here that would be the ending of the match if they determined that there was a touch so it makes a lot of sense when you think about what's on the line here for charlie wade to just go ahead and challenge this it makes a lot of sense if i were him i would challenge this definitely not only does he challenge it but he slows the match down just a little bit as well and sometimes that's what happens with these challenges they use it for a timeout in tight matches again the challenge is whether or not there was a touch right here on the block had olivier going up next to meroki [Applause] we've obviously been wrong about what the final ruling has been in previous replay challenges but weave all right i have okay just double check it's all right thanks for throwing me back under the bus but but i personally from our perspective maybe you would have a different take i don't see a touch there i don't see one either kanoa but i do see a perfect arm swing that is textbook when you see his arm coming back elevating getting around that ball no touch and we are tied at 24. i mean wouldn't really be a hawaii long beach state match if we weren't playing extra volleyball in the fourth that's right in full battle battle zone hawaii up two sets to one long beach state trying to gut its way to a fifth tella who's middle it's rosenfeld layout saves siegfried tight to the net the swing by god bold he's blocked back god bowled a second time blocked and roofed galloway getting it on that one roosevelt getting out there a little late but hawaii's block has really tuned it up so aloha ball for the match again for the rainbow warriors and it is patapunov to serve played by olivier outside god bold finger tips on the block out of peace outside galloway up the ladder diving layout saved by briggs high ball goes to god gold three blockers up kyle with the save tella backside decent dorado and this one is power [Applause] and the rainbow warriors take down long beach state three sets to one and what was once again in spots a gritty competitive match the outliers were set two and three where it was all hawaii but long beach state showing some of that character and it sets the stage for what could be a fun hana hole rematch tomorrow night [Music] it definitely sets the stage i'd have to say coach allen knight in our talk earlier in the weeks shared the first night is never the same as night number two it always changes so the final arithmetic 23 25 25 14 25 13 and 26 24 as bank of hawai'i presents the players of the match spencer olivier 14 kills hitting 139 three blocks uh three digs i should say to go along with five blocks and gage worsely one dig off of his career high 14 also four assists and again just bringing that energy defensively hawaii with 15 and a half total team blocks including six in that fourth set they were impressive they were dominant at times and again they had to reach down for a little extra uh to finally polish off long beach state in that fourth frame all right let's send it over to scott all right thanks a lot canola coach congratulations your blocking got off to a bit of a slow start you only had two blocks after the first two sets you finished with 15 and a half including six in that final set your your blocking was terrific yeah and usually i mean again it just takes a little while to get a dialed in and uh i mean they got some good hitters so nice to see uh both jake and rado kind of get a beat on it and and do a nice job what's it like to have a guy like max rosenfeld off the bench for you in the middle we saw him last week spell patrick tonight he spelled vos he just brings you consistency yeah i mean and just a really good dude man he's worked really hard you know he's been he's a what a fourth year sophomore and uh you know he works as a colleague off every day at practice and uh and does a nice job to him it is it is a luxury to have a guy like that to be able to come in and not only does he play and put up you know good numbers for us he just gives us a lift emotionally all right not a lot of time between uh this match and the beginning of tomorrow night but what would you like to see your team do better tomorrow night well we were uh pretty inefficient you know that first set we made 10 unforced errors and that's not like us it seemed like we were searching for sidelines when we really didn't need to um so you know like i said that 10 unforced errors in the first set is pretty uncharacteristic for us and uh you know then after that you know we're pretty steady so um just be a little more dialed in i think from the get-go will be good for us all right coach congratulations all right thanks aloha back over to you know thanks a lot scott you have some big stat lines lotto powder puno have 17 kills seven digs a couple of aces colton cowell 14 kills hit 357 eight blocks chaz galloway double figures and kills hit 304 and pat gassman five foot down to 429 and those eight blocks all right don't forget about the post game show lisa get some rest i know you and scott and company gonna be busy tomorrow we got some beach volleyball prior to the rematch here but for now for lisa strand i'm kanoa lady aloha from manoa highlights white lumbee state night number one we start off with spencer olivier for the beach who led the way for long beach state with 14 kills on the night he also contributed five blocks as we had difficulty at times trying to stop the big sophomore on the hawaii side defense was the key how about gage worsley 14 digs for the first team all-american libero firstly was everywhere so was hawaii's blocky got off to a bit of a slow start but they picked it up and finished the evening with 15 and a half blocks eight each for pat gassman and kong cow six blocks in the final set for hawaii and toronto para puna the bows offensively with 17 kills he had three blocks had seven digs as well but it was just kidding that was the key for uh he puts that one away a match high for the night 17 kills for ronald park and it was a good friday for the rainbow warriors as they knock off long beach stake in four this is the post-game show on spectrum sports [Music] hey everybody thanks for sticking around it is the post-game show scott james ryan hawaii wins it in four over long beach state it was kind of a weird match way uh had a pretty sizable lead in that first set let it go long beach state wins and then hawaii just boat races uh the beach in the second and third sets and then the fourth said it really was a dog fight but the blocking for hawaii was the difference yeah i think the blocking really pla helped to pave the way for hawaii's victory 15 and a half blocks and credit to pat gassman i mean he had a relatively quiet night offensively and decent defensively but really turned it on when hawaii needed him the most coming up with some crucial blocks at the end of set number four and some timely kills as well the senior helping to lead the charge in on eight blocks total tonight for hawaii well let's have one of the stars of tonight's match join us down on the floor colton cowell with uh 14 kills hit 357 tie for the team lead with eight blocks which i believe was a career high for you colton really yeah i didn't i didn't realize i mean you know every every once in a while you just decide to jump and then like you guys mentioned earlier patrick just clamps the ball and you get credited with the black assist and you're like great i was just being a tourist in that moment well cozy talk about this matchup obviously uh there was some concern for you at the beginning of the match with the ankle and then we saw you go out with maybe a cut in your mouth or something it was a tough match for you yeah it was a little bit difficult um yeah one of the first sessions i sprained my ankle um in the warm up and i was scared that i wouldn't be able to play but renee fixed me up good right before the match and i just kind of kept moving when the team would sit down i was just bouncing around trying to stay loose trying to stay warm and just we knew that they were going to come in and give us a tough battle and they're a great long beach team they're well coached and we were just we're really excited to host a great opponent once again in the stan sheriff center with the history between these two programs little extra adrenaline rush baby for this one tonight yeah certainly certainly the pain the pain always causes some adrenaline so um yeah hopefully tomorrow i uh i can break it once again back into place and we can get rolling again let's hope there's no braking going on actually how about that i have a quick question for you colton so you know there's a lot of history with this team like you mentioned was there different mentality going into this game compared to the other ones that we played this season i wouldn't um i think there was a slight change um just regarding the fact that this the last program that won a championship was this program um we know that this team even though they're young they're talent loaded they're really well coached we didn't expect them to you know show any signs of uh of just letting us walk all over them um they're a great team and and we knew that you know the last time we played them was the big west championship here and i think we once again just always have something to prove and especially against an opponent as talented as they are it's always a great test knowing that um we're just still on our way up improving and we left room for improvement for tomorrow was there anything they did tonight that maybe surprised you guys or was it pretty much everything you expected it was everything we expected i think you know they we we prepared a really good scouting report um credit to josh walker he's really great with that you know we work on keys we we analyze things um but obviously when you get to the live match you know just because you can see something on paper we still need to respond to it correctly and i think uh you know once again we just kind of came out and um maybe our expectations of ourselves were a little too high and we should you know make sure that we start tomorrow very humble very hungry very ready to fight every single point you want to go jump in the ice bath take a couple of thailand now one of you have another question for uh yeah i just wanted to quickly jump in here colton you know earlier this week we talked about you and i talked and you shared about just the mentality of this team and everyone sort of knowing their roles i'm wondering if you can share that right now how do you think the personality of this overall team is uh everyone from the starters on the card to the bench how do you think that is helping the overall chemistry i think um despite previous years where we were also really successful i think what makes this team special this year is we're able to be light in stressful moments we're able to play freely we don't get locked up we don't we always respond to pressure well i feel you know and if one guy happens to not be performing his best there's several other players now that have recognized that their role is to be a guy sorry the guy not just a guy on the floor for us so i think it was a great uh team win tonight and i think tomorrow you're going to see once again that we're just as well-rounded um as anybody and we're just going to keep fighting and battling hey go get some rest we'll see you back here tomorrow night thank you thank you so much for having me guys congratulations to colton paul another terrific night for him 14 kills hit 357 eight blocks as well for the maui native welcome back to the post game show on spectrum sports well the beach out there on the floor stretching out getting ready to come back here tomorrow night but tonight it was the university of hawaii number one ranked team in the country over at long beach state in four and we got another chance to see the play of chaz galloway he seems to be getting better and better the coveted freshman out of san diego tonight 10 kills hit 304 yeah really doing a nice job offensively and as well in the passing department i think it goes often unnoticed a lot of teams will pick after and go after chaz galloway in that passing formation because he's the rookie in the passing formation but he's holding his own and no doubt just a fun player to watch with his explosive jump and the angles at which he hits and i'm about to play max rosenfeld we mentioned that with charlie we saw him last friday come in for gasman who was struggling tonight he came in for voss after the first set he played three sets he had four kills hit a 667 he also had uh what do you have he had three blocks also yeah you know it's been mentioned a lot tonight max rosenfeld the amazing thing that he does is he's always ready to come in when he's needed we've seen last week he came in for patrick gassman did a phenomenal job started off with an amazing kill and then tonight he did a great job working very consistently getting blocks but also hitting at a very high percentage max rosenfeld is a player that you can definitely count on to come in we even saw it last year against byu he always seems to amaze me so kudos to max hey james is he more of a defensive middle or is he an offensive middle you know i'd say defensive for right now although the offense is slowly coming out max rosenfeld in the practice gym in the years when i was playing against him you definitely did not want to swing into his hands because that was a pure block down his great he does a great job with his timing he's always there when you least expect it and comes out of nowhere and i think one of the great things that we've seen in his progression is just being better at making some of those off plays and having to step in uh set the second ball having him play that transition ball sometimes off the net he's become much more reliable much more comfortable in those situations too which will only help him see more court time in the future all right let's take a look at the final numbers from this one hawaii wins it in four over long beach state and there you see the hitting percentages hawaii hitting well below their average at 265 but they held long beach state to 0.72 the blocking like we talked about hawaii doubles up the beach and hawaii with five more digs of all those numbers which one really stands out to you ryan well i think the service aces hawaii certainly put a lot of pressure those six service aces and uh you won't always see the poor passes that show up on that stat but hawaii really put the pressure from behind the service line and so did long beach a time when hawaii was in trouble at times was because of their poor passing but i think that's one of the statistics that stand out the most and still a 265 hitting percentage is not what hawaii is uh used to hitting these days of course they lead the nation in that over 300 hitting percentage but 265 against long beach state is still pretty good i do have to say i think the errors numbers are incorrect i'm looking at the stat sheet long beach state had 30 errors so i had 22 10 of those coming in that final set all right we'll take our final break we'll come back have some final thoughts and wrap things up [Music] welcome back to the post game show on spectrum sports all right let's take a look now at the scoreboard for tonight there you see hawaii winning in four over longview state there's some other matches on the west coast so we'll take a look at the big west conference scoreboard here in a moment oh i guess we will here in a second look at square there they are there they are you see santa barbara completed a sweep they had beaten uc irvine on wednesday did in three tonight and uc san diego blanks c-sun so the up-to-date standings as of right now hawaii remains the lone unbeaten team along bc it actually is three and two now hawaii's five-and-oh and 10-0 on the season so the upcoming schedule for the university of hawaii they'll play again tomorrow night against long beach state and i believe they go to csun next week and they do on the 9th and 10th come home wrap up the regular season against uc irvine before big west conference tournament play so the bottom line here tonight guys was it was a good friday if you get what i'm saying uh hawaii got the win and that's what really matters yeah they got the win they got the win at home they got the win against a rival uh you know they got the win going into uh what is going to be of course another competitive match tomorrow night you know sticking around here on the court is the long beach state team their coach continuing to coach his players talking to them about some of the adjustments moments ago we heard the team meeting here they said hey look we were two points away from sending this to the fifth we are ready to go back uh tomorrow night they are excited they sound fired up despite the loss they know that they were in it and they had chances here tonight expect another close match tomorrow night yeah kudos to long beach state i think one thing they did really really good tonight was keep the energy high no matter whether they were scoring points or losing points their energy was there their teamness was there and they would always come in in a huddle one standout to me from long beach state was mason briggs the second year freshman he's had a lot of experience in the us not the top national team but in the junior national team he's had an amazing career here long beach so far only in his second year and one thing that long speed long beach does different compared to many other teams just put their libero in area six you don't see that happen very often but he does a great job chasing down balls and getting some incredible digs yeah we saw him with 10 digs gage had 14. we possibly saw the two bessel barrels in all of college volleyball tonight i would have to agree with you there but that comes to my next point where tonight we did see hawaii did something great which was we talk about this a lot in volleyball is find your counterpart and beat them we saw patrick gassman had an amazing night blocking wise i think he played a little better than simone then gage warsley we saw that big time game boy gage warsley which was really really fun to watch and he outplayed his counterpart libero's i think our outsides did an incredible job ryder power punoff was very lethal in the back row although we didn't play the best game i think hawaii has a lot more to show and i'm very excited to see what happens tomorrow night because i think long beach is going to be a lot more consistent as well yeah and this has been already a fun weekend going back to last night it's kind of the hawaii versus long beach state weekend last night water polo and the rainbow wahine knocked off long beach state last night it was beach volleyball as well hawaii beats long beach state three to two tonight the min win tomorrow you have beach volleyball against long beach state again in fact we'll have that match up for you beginning at three o'clock lisa ryan and myself will be over at the beach course and we're all going to run well i'm not going to run but they probably will and we'll try to get here in time for 6 30 and game on and the rematch of the men indoor hawaii and long beach state it's been fun guys thank you so much yeah been fun all right we'll do it all over again tomorrow night but for now we'll wrap things up special thanks as always our outstanding spectrum
