okay so in this video I wanna talk a little bit about linear drains they're becoming very popular and the reason for that is because they open up a whole lot of the possibilities for the use of other types of tile other than mosaic tiles if you've got a center Center drain or a point drain you have to slope the entire floor to that drain so that limits the possibility of the size of tile that you can use to be able to conform to that slope or that pitch or that bowl shape it in the on the shower floor when you use a linear drain now you can put the linear drain either on one end on the back wall or even near the curb or you can even eliminate the curb altogether you can also do that with with the regular point drain but the linear drain opens up possibilities for tile sizes when you use a linear drain you have a flat pitch you don't no longer have a bowl but you have a flat surface that is pitch to the drain so if you have say the drain and the back wall you have the pitch from the front of the shower where the curb is down towards the back or you could have it on one side of the shower and you would have a flat pitch a flat surface pitched towards the side of the shower where the drain is and because the surface is flat what that means is you can put any size tile you want if you can get a big enough tile to be just one piece you can do that the only thing you want to be careful of is you don't want the floor to be slippery so you're gonna have to pick the right kind of tile if you're gonna use a large format size tile you want to pick the right kind of tile so that you don't slip and it doesn't become a hazard there are plenty of tiles like that that's probably a topic for another video when you're using most mosaic tiles that's not a problem because there's a lot of grout lines and that gives you traction so when you have these linear trains you can use large format tiles 12 by 24 whatever size you want and because the pitch is flat so in this video I'm just going to go over the you know the one that I use the most which is a Schluter drain now there are plenty other types of drains you can clean your drains that you can use the one I use the most is its Laura because it's one of the easiest you can you can use plus it's the most available to me so a lot of this that you see in this video is actually applicable to other types of systems I've use other systems but as I said the Schluter system is the best option for me because just the availability for me it's again just to make things clear sure that doesn't pay me anything I don't get any money from Sula I do these videos on my own accord and this is just real real installs that I do for customers that I choose the materials they choose that their tile and I choose the system that I'm gonna be installing and as I said Schluterr is the easiest for me to get it's the one I use and besides that it's a great system why not use it it's a fabulous system it works really well they have a good reputation so I use it and but like I said I don't get any money from them the reason that you see a lot of videos that have Schluter is because that's what I use so it's just a process that I use to install the drain body and the drain grate to get ready for the tile floor if you you know just want to refresh or you just want to see how it's done this is a good video for that I have several other videos that go step by step and into great detail on how to do it and I'll link to those in the in the cards and in the in the description below and so this is just more like a major steps type of thing so you can get an idea of what's involved in installing one of these linear drains so anyway so as usual and don't forget to subscribe and also check me out on patreon it takes time and effort to make videos if you can support me that'd be that'd be great also most of you know some of you might know that I have an online store this matcom where you can purchase a lot of tools especially the T lock system that I use on my my website and I also have available a PDF available for download it's just a small fee if you're interested in that it just gives the the important steps or the a guideline on how what needs to be done to install a floor properly either on plywood or concrete it's not specific but it's very useful in the sense of understanding what needs to be done I will be making other PDFs in the future soon as I get the time but anyway I hope you enjoy the video and as always and most importantly don't forget to subscribe thanks a lot ok so let's talk about linear drains this is a linear drain it's gonna go in this shower in that corner over there there's a there's a template board that I put in there when I did the mud that's gonna come out and this is the drain now now linear drains are becoming very very popular for me this is probably like the fifth one or a row that I've done so and Schluter makes probably one of the easiest systems to install but they have foam pads foam trays that you can use instead of the of the mud and but I like doing the mud for me it's easier because you know just it for me it's just easier because I don't have to work you know cut the at the foam you just put the mud it fit it fit any size whereas the foam trays you have to cut the size and make them fit or extend them or whatever so I just like to do the mud but the foam trays will work if that's the way you want to go this is actually drain grate this is this one here the solid body and they have the perforated than tilable and they have a few new ones as well a lot fancier but these are the standard ones that I've been using it comes with a valve seal inside outside corners I'll show you in a minute that it comes with a valve seal right so this is the drain grate so this is the drain grate right here I'll pull up in a second and this is the drain body this is the part that gets buried see so already open this up once but open it up again this is the drain body it already has the membranes installed on it they just put into place that comes with the collar that come foam the foam foam if you're putting it in the middle of a shower then you use this part here if you put another thing at a wall then you don't use that this will go like that and when I put make these templates here I make them slightly bigger when I install it so anyway these the linear drains that I use so you know the other manufacturers make them without the methods and other systems to install it but this is the one I use the most so I pick these out and show you how okay so when you're installing these you wanna make sure you don't close that up so that the grate drain doesn't fit and this comes with these pre install just adjust the height of the drain grate you can move these over like a little slot in there and you can put them wherever you need them put one here now move this one over put it about here so now that you can't close that up and this one here i s pretty stiff to these foam inserts that you could put in my kept those because they come in handy but if you don't have one those you can just make one out of a piece of kerdiboard and that will keep it nice and tight and what i do when i install this i put this on and then I'll just tape it on the top so it doesn't fall out so that's the drain grate and then these and go screwed in here and that is to adjust the height of the of the grate in relation to the drain body to give you the correct height for the tile perfect
