hey everyone my name is kami and in today's video we're going to be doing a plan with me for the month of february [Music] the month of february for me is very special because it is my anniversary with my husband we've been married for four years and i purposely picked getting married on valentine's day so that we couldn't forget and the whole world will remind us when we're getting close to our anniversary so i decided to go super festive and pick out a pinkish theme to my spread and also this is my sister's birthday month so shout out to my sister kriselle she is my sidekick when it comes to this channel and these videos she watches them for me and make sure that i don't have any mistakes and she's my number one fan so hello and happy early birthday to her [Music] i am going to record a voiceover over this footage because the audio was bad but basically i'm doing a quick flip through this is the cover page and the mood board for january and this is the calendar that i'm going to be using in my future spreads i really like having a calendar but this time i'm going to be adding another column so you'll see that in my spread later on i'm going to also be continuing with this project page but in between this i'm going to add another spread which you'll see later in the videos and i think right now i'm talking about how i really liked using the task list but i didn't use the other portions of that page like the youtube and the instagram and i don't know why i think i had a plan for it and it just didn't work out so i'm gonna be using it for something else i just haven't decided yet so that's something that i'm just gonna figure out when i start really planning i think i'm a little pressured when i make these videos to figure it all out but i also mentioned that i like having the task list on the left hand side because it's easy to flip through and this is the first week of january i decided that i'm going to decorate just the first week of the month and in the rest of the weeks i'm going to do my typical layout for my weekly spreads so this is the only time that you'll see something fancy in the next weeks you're gonna see that i came up with this layout forever ago it's something that i used in my very very first bullet journal and i've just used it ever since i pretty much love the way that this is laid out because it works for me personally but basically what you have here is uh two columns on each side and i just write down my daily logs from there and on the bottom there is a mini calendar a quote and the weeks for what's coming up so i have a nice view and the reason why i do everything on the bottom of my notebooks is because i don't like writing down there so i like having things that i can just quickly reference and this is pretty much how i use all of my weekly spreads i just write down the tasks i have to do and then maybe i do a little journaling blurb at the end of it and it's super free-flowing i don't really have any rules for it and this is just something that has always worked for me so i'm pretty much just talking about the tasks i think at this point so it's not really that interesting but you're gonna see this in all of my spreads moving forward oh um also i do little doodles and you can see that i think i'm pointing to one and um oh i also hand letter so those are just the little touches that i like to do and i actually recorded this almost two weeks ago i think so this spread hadn't even been finished but yeah i just wanted to do a quick voiceover because the audio during this recording didn't come out that nice but this is what i did for january and i think that's all i say and we're about to jump into the rest of the plan with me so sorry about that guys but i will see you in the next section hello we are now getting into the planning of my february spreads just a reminder you can find all the products that i'm using in this video in the video description some of these links will also be affiliate links from amazon which means that if you do purchase something on amazon then i will get a little bit of a commission from it so feel free to do that if you want to support me um right now i'm pulling out my sketchbook which is a livestream mixed media sketchbook i don't really care much for the paper it's just a nice feeling sketchbook and i find that i'm a really tactile person so the sketchbook just feels really nice when i hold it and flip through it but this is not a fancy sketchbook that i plan to show anybody it's just my scrap paper getting ideas out of my head sketchbook so right now you can see that i am swatching all of the different pinks that i own in marker or pen form i mentioned in my last plan with me that i'm not really happy with the way the watercolor works on the archer and olive paper so i actually purchased a bunch of watercolor brush pens this is a pack of 48 that i found on amazon and it's actually super affordable the packaging makes it look really expensive but it wasn't again i will link it in the video description below but just a disclaimer i didn't really like it so i didn't end up using it but i wanted to show off the pens a little bit because i want to try using them in general i have tried picking up some hand lettering and i thought that they would be nice to use so i thought that i would like to have a bunch of beautiful colors in my arsenal whenever i wanted to do some hand lettering but i am showing you the pen it is a brush pen it's got a really nice tight fitting cap you see that there is a number and name on each of the brushes which is nice on the cap there's also a little bit of a groove or a notch i think to help with the pens from rolling and it also serves as a nice grip but i'm testing out the pens right now and honestly they felt just like markers oh man my camera's passing out i don't know why i got a new camera you guys so my shots are a little bit wonky but yeah they don't really feel like paint or watercolor paint there was more ink than there was water i was hoping that they would feel a little bit different than the tombow dual brush pens and while there seems to be more of a pigment or ink flow on water it dries pretty much like a marker so it's a good mix of a pen and also paint so you do get a kind of nice in between but for the look that i was going for i didn't really want to use it so i think i keep it in my section for a while but i don't actually use it and this is actually my favorite part of doing any of my spreads and it's picking out the washi tape if you've seen my previous haul videos you would have known that i have started hoarding a lot of supplies and that includes washi's and i like picking out a couple of colors and kind of carry them out through my entire spreads it just helps tie everything together even though i'm using different mediums from different brands different stickers and stuff so you see me picking out some memo tape or memo papers stuff that i've just kind of collected and they sort of fit the theme and even though i don't really use it i like having them available also if you haven't already i am on instagram usually i'm posting behind the scenes stuff or stuff with my son or my husband or if i'm just out in the garden i like sharing that with everyone so you can add me on instagram if you haven't [Music] and here we are with the actual setup i know it's kind of a long lead up to this point but i really do like talking about the thought process behind these plan with me and what goes through my head and i know that a lot of you guys enjoy that as well but here i am setting up my mood board and my cover page usually i like to sketch out my ideas and sort of guidelines before i get into it but i also like to leave room for a spontaneity so as you can see i had drawn a pattern behind the box of the mood board on the left hand side but i don't actually end up going with it i think i decide to do something else really last minute for the mood board what i usually do is i pick a couple of images that inspire the spread so i picked out these two flowers which is the theme for this month the primrose i picked this illustration because i wanted something easy to reference when i'm drawing out the flower because i think in the last spread i kept guessing what a snow drop looked like and i decided that i didn't want to do that this time it just took way too long and it made everything look a little rough and then i also picked an image of the actual flowers so when it came to the coloring inspiration that's where it came from i am doing a quick little border here and it's actually not little it's a really thick border with my tombow dual brush pen and i really like the look of bold borders and then contrasting it with a non-border page so that's kind of what i'm going for here and you can see that i am trying really hard to get them an even strokes but it's really not that easy and i noticed that with the tombow markers if you go over a certain spot it just makes it darker which is the intended effect i guess and so i take the two images that i printed out and i think i found them on pinterest or something and i'm gonna collage them into the mood board but before i do i decided to add this pattern of little primrose flowers and that's why it's really important to have a reference i think because the first one i kind of guessed what it looked like even though the image was right in front of me and then i start using the image as reference so i think i make a little mix of open flowers closed ones and then some leaves or petals or something right now i am taping down the image that i'm using as my overall theme and i'm using a tombow tape glue and this is my favorite type of glue to use in my notebooks and my journals if i can use it i will but sometimes i have some weirdly shaped images and i have to use a glue stick but i use liquid glue as my super last resort and i just decorate a little bit with washi tape i love having different patterns and different colors it's just something that i've really grown into lately and you can see me using that glue stick now this particular image that i cut out has a lot of different sized edges and that doesn't really work well with the glue tape this image that i'm pasting is an actual illustration that i found on pinterest normally i would make my own art studies and draw a reference for myself but i really didn't have the time so i just looked up something that i wanted to use throughout the spread i really needed it just to see how the flower could be broken down into really simple drawings and i just used that as kind of a guide for the rest of the drawings that i make in my notebook right now i am actually testing out the coloring that i wanted to do in my spreads i came up with this idea where i didn't want to fully fill in the illustrations so i played around with that in the mood board and right now i am swatching out the colors that i want to use for the rest of the spreads and i think i landed on the pinks and the beige from the tombow dual brush pens i liked the really soft muted look of it and here i'm actually trying out those brush pens this is where i realized that it's not really giving me the look that i want it to so i don't think i use it after this point i try using it a little bit but it's way too bright and the rest of the options are just not that great so i decide on the tombow dual brush pens for this particular spread and i probably will use the brush pens in another spread or in another video just not in this one i recently discovered this super cute way of decorating your lettering and if you take your water-based marker and you color the bottom half of your letters it'll make it look like there's a bit of a gradient and i also add a little bit of a drop shadow effect which is something that i've always done it's one of my guilty pleasures i think having really thin drop shadowing but also i found out that if you take your white gel pen you can make it look like the letters are shining a little bit so it kind of reminds me of bubble letters or jell-o or something and i decided to just do that for the entire spread i got kind of sick of it at the end but it was really fun to do and i am really enjoying decorating my lettering this way now that i am officially starting the cover page it's kind of funny because i spent way more time on the mood board than i did illustrating the cover page but they kind of go hand in hand now this duo page is now my cover so i am now doing the line art of the sketch that i made and i use that illustration as a reference and basically what i learned from it is that you can divide a circle up into five parts so i roughly drew a circle and the center of it and then i drew five lines pointing out and that kind of outlines the flower for me and so i just draw a little bit of a wavy line around that circle going into each of those points and it kind of already looks like the flower that's really what i use that reference for it and i don't really copy it exactly but it's just a way for me to get a really quick idea of how the flower is formed again i normally would have done this on my own but it's just really hard to find the time to do it and if you want to know who actually did the illustration you can visit my pinterest it's on my pinterest board under notebook i think and then a february folder but i'm now going in right now with my really thin sakura micron and i think it's a zero zero five my camera is going crazy right now because i didn't discover the proper setting for the camera until later in the video but basically what i'm doing is i am making a couple of little line marks just to show the curve of the petals and what direction it's going out of so i start from the center of the flower and then i go out and then i draw these tiny little tick marks on the edge of the petals to show the wrinkles of the petal i don't really think this is on the actual illustration i think this is just something that i'm making up but it's pretty close to what i was looking at of course i think the illustration does it way better but this is just another way of adding really quick details and making it look much nicer if you are new to drawing and illustrating i find that there are many levels of detail that you can go into and i usually just do three levels of detail the first one is just the outline of the drawing the second one is showing the shading or the direction of some of the parts of the flower or whatever i'm drawing and the final one is really tiny touches so you'll see me doing that a lot in the drawings right now i am filling in the middle of the flower with the pollen i guess i i don't really know what these names are but there are people who have been calling me out on it so if you know what the middle part of the flower is called please let me know because i should know that by now but i don't and i kind of go on my own here i didn't really use the reference anymore i wanted to make it look like all these flowers were kind of coming out and across and being laid on top of each other like a bouquet but i don't really think i achieved that look now that i think about it um the actual flower i think all comes off of one stem but i wanted it to look like a bunch of flowers were picked and put together into a little bouquet and handed to you as if it were a gift [Music] i added leaves to the bottom without really thinking about what they look like so again i needed reference for the leaves and i didn't have one i just kind of made it up but this is just a reminder for everybody that if you're drawing something from real life it's better to have all the references ready and available to finish off the illustration i am writing the word february underneath the flowers and i'm using a very loose kind of flowy cursive something that i'm really into right now and i am coloring in only a few of the flowers so if you remember in the mood board i was testing out only coloring a little bit of the illustration and i really like the look of it i think i pick the beige color and the pink color even though i know that the flower can't be beige i don't think that's even possible for a primrose to be beige i don't know let me know if you're familiar with the plant and if there is a variation of it the flower that comes in beige but i decided that i liked kind of the spot coloring it looks a lot cuter i think than having all of the colors on all of the flowers and as usual i finish everything off with some washi tape to kind of tie everything together moving on to a new spread that i'm adding to this month and it's a habit tracker and an affirmations page i didn't really put much thought into this except that i wanted to have another spread that i could reference and flip back to and so i drew the same flowers the same exact way but this time in the center of both of the pages so half of the bouquet is on the left-hand side the other half's on the right and i do the same thing i draw really rough circles i draw five lines coming out from the center and then i make these little squiggly lines around it from each point to make it look like the petals and you notice i'm doing some closed and some open or some that are barely opening and that is again from the reference it's really easy to have references and when you're drawing so i love having that it's just made the drawing process that much easier for me and as you can tell i am also trying to have a more loose style with my drawing instead of something so rigid or so perfect i think that one of the comments that i kept getting in a previous video was to just let it be messy and not let it be perfect and i think that i like that advice because first of all it takes a lot less time to be really loose but also it's not really about the drawing i think for me personally it's about the art of drawing and painting or coloring and creating and as long as it gives off the look that i'm going for i think that that is a successful art piece i know that in the bullet journaling community and maybe just the journal and planner community as well there is this huge pressure to make everything look really nice and really perfect and i am super guilty of that as well if you've seen my other videos i talk about how much i don't like the look of something a lot and what a lot of you guys have said is very encouraging and i want to continue sharing that with everybody else so i think that if you want to see change you have to be the change and that is just wise words from gandhi and i really believe that so i'm gonna stop criticizing my work too harshly i think i'll give a comment about what i was trying to do and then maybe talk a little bit about how it came out but i no longer will be very harsh on myself i think i will also just enjoy the process and honestly a lot of the times it doesn't come out that bad but anyways i'm rambling right now i am just lining up the trackers i think oh yeah so these are my trackers i measured out the boxes for the month and if you start your months on a monday you would have noticed that february is the perfect rectangle or square month and that is kind of one of the motivators for me to start a habit tracker because it was really easy for me to figure out what kind of boxes i needed to make and how many dots i needed to count out so i have i think a total of four it looks like so i need to pick some habits because i haven't picked any yet but the idea is that i will color those boxes in when i complete a habit for the day and right now i'm actually doing my semi coloring where i pick those two colors and i just randomly color in some of the flowers and again i really like the way that this looked i was going to go with my instinct of coloring all of the flowers and trying to make them look exactly like the flower on the cover page or sorry on the mood board but i am really glad i went with this other creative instinct because it looks really good i'm now writing in habit tracker on the left hand side of the page i really am digging the vertical letters i don't know why i did it for the cover page of my entire bullet journal and i really missed it so i'm bringing it back and you can see that i am doing the effect of the gradient and also just a note that that color shift is not the marker that color shift is my camera i still haven't really played around with the settings and most of the time i'm recording at night so i have a really really bright ring light above my desk and so the color just isn't consistent in all of my shots but anyways um here i am enjoying my little jelly letter decorations i do it a lot and right now i am writing the word affirmations but i think i run out of space so i just end up writing the word affirmation that happens to me a lot that's how new or rookie beginner i am at hand lettering i don't really know what i'm doing but i see it a lot and i practice a lot so this is me trying to hand letter and again i run out of space so you can see that the letters just get all super crunched up on the end so the idea behind this affirmations page is i will write down the affirmations that i am trying to focus on for this month and honestly i was originally thinking of only doing a few maybe like four to kind of match the four habits on the left hand side but i also think that i'm not going to do them all at once what i realized about my journaling style is that i tend to have an idea or i start off with something at the beginning of the month but as the weeks go on i start to shift focus or shift priorities and when i'm super locked into something i find that i don't keep up with it so if there's room for me to shift or change or just grow then i tend to have more success with whatever that is so for the habit trackers i think i'm gonna try to make one or two and then later i'm gonna see which other habits i want to start tracking and they'll most likely be habits that i'm already doing but that's just kind of how it's going so this is actually my favorite favorite spread of all spreads in all of my notebooks actually and it's the calendar page i really cannot function without the spread it's what i plan everything around and i use my calendar a lot in my bullet journal i use it a lot on my phone i use it a lot in my planner i have two different calendars here in my studio and i really like having everything available for me to look at and especially when it comes to planning my weeks i really need a full page calendar in this shot you can see that i am trying to figure out how to get around my sketches but i decided to just draw the illustration first and then i can add those lines in later that's how you get that really crisp look of your illustration coming over your boxes so i decided to start drawing that first and you can see that i've completely shifted from the style from the cover page and the habit tracker and affirmations page i'm now creating these roses as if they're cascading over the calendar i decided to do this because i wanted something really impactful on just the right hand side and i made this decision last minute as well i mentioned earlier in the video that i'm adding an extra column to my calendar to write down goals for the week and i originally was going to write it on the left hand side but with the way that i laid everything out it was better for me to do it on the right hand side because even though it's a little bit covered up i can still write something in there really small but if i had an actual plan for that day i didn't want to be constricted by the illustration of the flowers so i made that last minute swap and right now i am drawing a bunch of flowers and this actually gets a little bit redundant so i'm gonna take a bit of a break so you guys can listen to some music [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] now that i have drawn the flowers a few times i've gotten a little bit more confident with how i'm drawing them so i'm able to add my own spin to things by adding some shading underneath the petals or just more lines in some of the areas that i really wanted to stand out and this is just something that i tend to do once i've drawn the subject a little bit more so there is usually a phase that i go through where i do my own studies and i wish i had the time to do it for this one but again i think i recorded this two weeks ago and i'm only now getting to it so for next month's spread i think i'm going to be practicing way beforehand so that when it comes down to actually drawing it i don't need to lean on a reference that hard while i'm coloring in the flowers i wanted to talk about the coffee that i have on the left hand side right now we recently purchased the nespresso virtuo next and i love this coffee maker i used to make my coffee with the normal old-fashioned way by grinding up some coffee grounds and i would put them in a pour over and i would wait for the drip drip drip and it would just take way too long so whenever we would have company and i would make coffee i normally could only make two cups at a time so we decided to get a coffee maker and i did a lot of research on it and the nespresso virtuo next is personally the one that i would love to own because first of all it comes in a rose gold color if you get the one made by delonghi i don't know if i'm saying that right but also because the pods are 100 recyclable so you can recycle them in either your own recycling bin or you can send them back to nespresso and they will actually use the aluminum from the pod as well as the coffee grounds inside of it so i thought that was really awesome and it actually has been a while since i've had a coffee maker i think i had a really cheap keurig a long time ago but i didn't really like the coffee that came out of it but anyways i am now filling in the boxes with a tiny little pink square on the top left hand side and that's usually where i write in the dates and on the top of each of the columns i am using my beige marker to create these little spaces for the days of the week i'm writing the month of february down on the bottom and like i said before i really hate writing at the very end of the notebook i don't really like the way that it feels which is why i tend to gravitate towards the traveler's notebook more when it comes to journaling because i can go all the way to the bottom of the page because the inserts are usually thin enough that my hand doesn't hang over the edge but again it's just a little preference there's nothing wrong with it but when it comes to bullet journals i always make the decorations off to the edges as much as possible since that's usually where i will write the least but now that i'm thinking about it i might consider doing a larger notebook size next time i don't really think i will use two notebooks this year but you never know maybe i will and if that's the case i will try a larger size um but right now i'm doing the same typical drop shadow and the gradient with the little gel pen bubble mark it's a look that i tried in my 2020 bullet journal spread that i wanted to try adding now i think it was my social media tracker if you haven't seen that you should definitely check it out i will link the card in the top right of this video but yeah i am really digging it and i use it quite a bit so i can see myself getting sick of it but until then i will just keep doing it right now i'm adding some bullets so that i can put in some goals for the month of february i tend to kind of go crazy with goals and i never really focus on them so i try to focus on a few things as much as possible and right now i am filling in the days of the week but sunday got a little bit cut off which is fine because it's just sunday and i don't really plan too much on those days and i finish writing in the dates as well right now i'm decorating with some of the washi tape that i got from my stationery haul again if you haven't seen that video i will link it for you guys as well but i noticed that the tape which um had a really funny pattern on it so if you can see that some of it looks like it's a straight line but really it's not like that um i don't think that's what i was going to say but i wanted to show that because it was funny but that particular tape is not really a nice quality every time i try to tear it it kind of tears in half and i think you can see the difference when i'm tearing um the script washi tape it rips off really easily off of the roll but for some reason the gingham pattern one just doesn't do very well so i am kind of realizing that depending on how much i paid for some of these materials especially the washi tape if it was on the cheaper side then i do get a bit of a cheaper product quote that i am picking for this spread is from johann wolfgang van gogh i don't know if i said that right but it says things which matter most must never be at the mercy of things which matter least and i'm choosing that quote for this month because i really want to focus on my priorities i'm honestly struggling a lot right now with balancing everything from this youtube channel to my job to my son and my husband i'm trying to be the best sister the best daughter and it's really hard but i am managing because there's a lot of tactics that i've learned over the years and a lot of it has to do with prioritization so that's kind of my focus for this month is to make sure that i'm prioritizing the right things now this is my original idea spread that i have been using a lot and i talk about this all the time i call this my project page but i don't really use it for that originally what's called the project page because on the left hand side was a floating task list and those two boxes were two projects that i would focus on but that's really not what it is anymore those two boxes turn into a bunch of different things i think i've even used one as like a grocery list like a running grocery list or um just he's a prompt list for journaling i i've used it for a bunch of different things but until i come up with a better name or maybe you guys can help me come up with a better name i'm just going to keep calling it my project page but i am drawing the same flowers that i've been drawing in all the other spreads i decided to put it in the middle again because i'm running out of ideas on what to do and um the right hand side is my brain dump page which i always always use i just use that as a free space to put whatever i need to make a list scribble out an idea try doodling something so i really don't know what i would call this spread but as you can see i am doing the same setup where it looks like the cover page where the flowers are kind of tied together in a little bouquet and the reason why i did this is because i wanted that look of the flowers being on top of something and since i know i don't normally use both of those boxes i decided to go crazy and make it really overlap and that way you get kind of this look where the boxes behind it are kind of peeking out and that's kind of my thing right now i did that with the calendar and i wanted to do it again here in my project page i want to point out that i am getting kind of sloppy here because this is the millionth times i'm drawing the flowers and i am hoping for my next spread that i wouldn't get too fatigued at this point from drawing i think what i'll do is i will attempt to make some reusable art in some way i don't really know how but i think that that would help when it comes to creating a bunch of spreads i normally don't make that many spreads but i wanted to try having that habit tracker and the affirmations page i don't see myself doing more than that and if i do i'll probably swap out some things but i can tell right now that my drawing and my hand is getting really tired but again i don't mind it so much because it's a really loose kind of art style that i'm going for anyway and it's more of just the look of everything than the actual art and whether or not it is perfect so i'm okay with the way that it's turned out right now i am writing in the word task list and i think i write in very small letters master task list at the top the way that i use this is i write down any of the tasks that i know i have to do for that month and as i go through my weeks i drag some tasks from that list into my weeks and then if there's something i didn't accomplish in that week and i'm migrating tasks over and i don't really have a date for when i want it i just dump it into here so i have it for reference this time i'm using my beige tombow dual brush pen to create a header and i am now adding some details to the flowers i think i forgot to fill out those little um pollen things which i still don't know what they're called but someone's gonna tell me in the comments and again i appreciate you guys for looking out for me and answering my questions i feel like these super long form videos don't really get watched i think they're in the background but it seems like you guys are hearing me and you guys are paying attention which is really awesome because i spend a lot of time making these videos and i feel like the longer they go the longer i spend on them but anyways i am now writing in brain dump here and again you can see my hand is struggling a little bit from being on the edge of the page a lot of people have suggested putting a book and i have found that a cloth really helps so i have a bunch of clean cotton rags that i use just for random things for wiping eraser dust off my notebook or i use it to clean up some paint but i use that rag sometimes it just gets in the way a lot so i don't really have it always available and right now i'm using that tape that i was talking about it's super thin so sometimes when i pull it off of the roll it just strips and splits the tape in half so i don't see myself using it too often or if i do i might stick it onto one of my washi tape dispensers so that i don't risk ripping it further and that really wraps up that spread i just add some washi tape to it and i think it really ties the look together so we are now moving to the final spread of february and this is my first week weekly spread like i said earlier i am only going to be doing a fancy weekly spread for the first week of the month that's just because i'm taking the time to do it for the video and i really don't need to do it for each of the months i actually really like my typical weekly layout so this is just something fancy that i decide to do for the video and right now you see that i am creating my boxes for each day and i'm doing something super simple where i split the page into these uh four boxes on each page and each box is going to be a day of the week and since there's an extra box that's actually going to be a spot for next week's tasks i find that i tend to push things from the current week into the next week often so having a space for me to keep track of that is actually really helpful i don't really know if i'm gonna do that moving forward but it's just really nice to try out and as i mentioned in previous videos i love making mini calendars it's super therapeutic for me and i like practicing writing out my numbers i feel like that my handwriting is pretty neat when it comes to letters but numbers i can get kind of messy on especially if i am writing them repetitively i also noticed that my hand is in the way in a lot of these shots so i'm gonna try to write at a different angle next time i didn't really think about it until now but anyways i'm getting distracted right now i am drawing a bunch of primrose flowers and flower buds and leaves at the top and bottom of these borders i wanted to make it look like a flower print but i messed up a little bit and i'll tell you why later but i really liked the way that it was turning out where it was just this huge bunch of flowers kind of hiding behind the weeks this is different from the other illustrations and spreads because i usually had the flowers on top of the boxes but now this is kind of hiding behind it and instead of using the negative space i actually tried filling it in which didn't turn out that nice and you'll see in a little bit what i mean but right now i'm adding the details which i turn out to really enjoy when i do illustrations the detail work is the stuff that takes the longest but i know that when you spend more time in it it actually turns out really nice so it's a tip that i have for anyone who is trying to make their own illustrations is spend a lot of time on studying the details of your reference photo and see how you can incorporate that even if it takes a little bit longer just adding that extra time will make your drawings look a lot better here's a good example of seeing that negative space where i probably should have stopped but i didn't really know what to do with it and i was kind of rushing because i wanted to make sure i got the video done and so i took all that beautiful negative space and i filled it in and i'm just kind of laughing at myself right now because it's the equivalent of somebody who feels nervous when there's silence and so they have to fill in the silence i don't know why i didn't just leave that negative space the way that it was and just colored it in like i had planned i ended up doing some sort of really dark cross hatching which ended up looking odd but since i did go over it with the marker it didn't look so bad and it gave a different look than i was going for almost as if it was like a washi tape that was laid on top of the page but again it wasn't quite what i was going for i don't mind it so much i just wish that i would have embraced that clarity or that blankness and it made those flowers pop just a little bit more either way i am going in right now with one of the darker pinks i used two different types of pinks and i'll link which one i used in the video description below i just can't remember which one off the top of my head but i used the darker pink to kind of color in the background the beige to fill in some of the flowers and the lighter pink to fill in the other flowers [Music] so [Music] [Music] [Music] every week i like having a mini calendar to reference whenever i am planning it's just a really quick and nice way of knowing where i am in the month and i like to highlight the current week because it helps me orient myself and it's also really fun to flip through and see the week jump from one to the other i don't know it's just a really silly thing that i do but it's something that i appreciate and i also have a weekly quote so i pick something that i really want to focus on or i want to motivate me for the week most of the time it has something to do with the overall theme of the month and so i try to pick something that reiterates that but also i just pick something that really helps me with what i'm feeling when it comes to journaling i really try to focus on creating things that help me get through my day or my week or the month and this quote is from stephen covey and it says most of us spend too much time on what is urgent and not enough time on what is important this quote really echoes my other quote for the month and my focus which is really understanding my priorities i have this problem where i tend to put too much stock on things that feel urgent or that feel like if i don't do it i'm in a lot of trouble or i am somehow losing something and because of that there's just added stress and i freak out over it i am actually prone to having anxiety attacks so i hope that for this month in february i am able to decide what urgent really means and for me i think urgent is something that is a bill being late or um someone leaving a cake in the oven for too long that i think is this urgent um i don't think that an email that i have read and didn't reply to right away is urgent i think that that can wait or um if there is a text message from someone and i am in the middle of changing my son's diaper i don't need to reply to it right away and i've done a really good job at that i think for the last month but this time i want to focus it more on my work and that goes for my youtube stuff it goes for my professional job i think that i am having a hard time deciding which is more important i am focusing a lot on my job and i want to make sure that i do a good job but at the same time i feel like i am putting too much into it i work way too long hours and i feel like i'm doing it because i am trying to compensate for having my son i think before i had him i was able to work really late and do overtime and since i'm salary there's no real way to track that but because i'm salary you actually tend to lose how much time you're spending so somehow about the last two weeks of january i started limiting my work hours from usually eight hours to ten at the most and then i stopped working i think that really helped me limit my self from being overworked and i also was able to set boundaries because as much as i love my job i also like making youtube videos and journaling and spending time with my self so that's just a really long-winded way of explaining why i'm prioritizing things for this month but we are now going into the final flip through of the video and i'm so excited for these spreads i think i did a really good job this time and that's a huge difference from when i first started my notebook i felt really messy really rushed and there was not very much that i liked from the beginning spreads but now i'm starting to get into the groove of everything so i just wanted to thank you all for sticking with me and a huge thank you to everyone who's left a really nice comment on my videos i read and try to reply to all of them and it just makes me feel like all the work that i'm putting into my videos isn't just going into the abyss i feel like everybody who has been watching these videos has also shared my journey or is in a journey of their own and i really love that i am also really happy with all of the connections that i've made a lot of you guys are also moms and you're also trying to do all the things and that really just makes me feel like i'm not alone out there and yeah i just want to thank you guys all for watching and for taking the time to leave me a comment i'm trying my best to keep up with a posting schedule but it's really hard right now because my son is teething and he's also just transitioning to solid foods so there's a lot of changes going on either way i am really happy with the way that this spread turned out there were a little bit of hiccups along the way and a lot of things that i wish i could have done but overall i'm really proud of myself because i feel like i'm finally coming into a style of my own and i am also pushing myself out of my comfort zones which is something that i really wanted to do for this year and i'm just really happy with everything before the flip through ends i wanted to remind everybody that i am planning to do longer more in-depth flip-throughs of my journals and my notebooks i have a planner that i haven't really shown on this channel yet that i want to show but i just don't really know how to do it with all the other videos i'm trying to make so i think i'm leaning towards doing a live stream maybe so that i can also answer your guys's questions live so let me know in the comments how you would like to see these flip throughs i have already made a post of a poll about it but i would also like to know your thoughts as well so let me know if you guys are interested and more in-depth flip throughs about my structure and style and just the logic behind these spreads that would really help me decide which way i want to go that is it we are now at a one hour mark and this is the longest video i've ever made but there was just so much stuff that i wanted to cover so i'm really glad that we got here and that you guys are still here with me i hope that you enjoyed this video and if you did don't forget to give it a thumbs up and leave a comment because it really helps with the channel thank you guys so much and i hope to see you guys again in the next video bye
