🎉 Best HiFi and Home Theater Products 2022!! 🎉

can you believe it is December already before we say goodbye to 2022 we gotta give props to all the best home audio has given us this year that's right it is time to celebrate products of the year and for you to shout at us for leaving off your favorites so let's do this [Music] before we get started let's go over some ground rules and this is important so please pay attention in order to be eligible the product nominated had to be reviewed on this channel between January 1 and December 10th 2022. this means there is a chance your favorite may not be represented so apologies from both of us in advance one last note for the three products we will be reviewing later this month those are going to have to wait until next year to be eligible for a product of the year so with all of that out of the way let's give out some awards home theater receiver of the Year this ended up being probably the most controversial category for either one of us Christy and I we went back and forth on how to handle this one because while we reviewed a number of really good AV receivers this year two of our favorites the Denon x3800h and the Marantz Cinema 50 are disqualified because they're not finished this year we have decided in order for a product to win the cake has to be fully baked now and not later the nominees are the Onkyo NR 7100 Marantz sr8015 and the Integra DRX 3.4 but the winner is the Integra DRX 3.4 this one caused us to have the most conversation back and forth because we both love the cinema 50 and I really liked the 3800 age um but let's face it kind of the big reason why those got so much fanfare out of the gate from cedia's announcement onto right now is they're going to be the first receivers that seem to have all of the features currently available to Consumers right now except they don't in the 8015 sounds great it's arguably one of the best sounding receivers I've ever heard it's my personal favorite and it's sonically we had a bit of a yeah we had I kind of I in my opinion I wanted the Marantz sr8015 to win this particular category But ultimately we gave it to the Integra because it is it has more off options yeah it is the more up-to-date current model where the 8015 is likely going to be replaced in the next say six months or so and some of its functionality with respect to 4K 120 8K 60 capability is limited to just that one input whereas the Integra doesn't force you to choose so sonically if this was all about just sound it probably would have been the 8015 for both of us but overall the home theater receiver of the Year 2022 was the Integra DRX 3.4 Soundbar of the year seriously this is probably my favorite genre of home audio to talk about and there were a lot of really great ones this year the nominees are Klipsch Heritage Theater bar s and Wilkins panorama 3. JBL bar 5.1 Polk magnify mini ax Samsung q99db and the Bose 600. and the winner is Samsung q990b I mean it it wasn't even close I mean it really wasn't it wasn't even close and uh yeah I just I I I I there were so many good sound bars this year we had a great time with sound bars this year and I especially love the Bose 600 we just reviewed but pound for pound the Samsung q990b proved that it is possible to have a true home theater experience with a sound bar TV of the year [Music] before we name our nominees for TV of the Year remember only the TVs that were reviewed here are going to be eligible so before you blow us up in the comments please keep that in mind and the nominees are Sony's x95k mini LED TV LG C2 OLED tcl's 5 series and the Samsung qn 900b 8K mini LED display and the winner is the Sony x95k I'm literally filling you guys I feel you guys watching come and glued I know like they're I don't know if there's a category of products that we review that elicit a more passionate response than televisions because man you guys got feelings I I love TV reviews and I hate doing TV reviews and the thing that I hate is heaven forbid because we usually get TVs last like in the in the pecking order of review channels we usually have to wait for everyone else to have weighed in before we weigh in oh we're we're definitely the red-headed stepchild yeah we are the red-headed stepchild and man heaven forbid I do not back up validate or prove something someone else has said uh oh man you guys just you're brutal in the comments when it comes to TV reviews it I'm like I'm I'm I get nervous every time we publish one nevertheless the Sony wins and the Sony wins because Christy made some very very good points look my pick was going to be the LG C2 OLED because pound for pound and after calibration it was near as makes no difference perfect so if you are all about that Perfection you can make the argument that the LG C2 OLED is also like TV of the year but the reason I agree with you in giving it to the Sony is I I think the majority of people buying televisions do not calibrate they don't and we know this they don't know how to calibrate they don't have the tools to calibrate and understand that all of those all of those factors are 100 percent fine neither Christian or myself for not doing it because heck before I met Andrew I didn't know how to do that either I remember actually getting a Sony television based on the recommendation of an unnamed retailer telling me it was the best this was many years ago but um I got it home and I didn't like it and I I could I didn't know how to calibrate it I didn't pay for calibration yep I I'd like a lot of you I went to uh some some sources that said use these settings yeah guess what that didn't work yeah and it typically doesn't which is why we do not share our settings but anyway most people aren't calibrating they're not paying for it they don't know how to do it they want to be able to unbox the thing put it on their wall and turn it on and enjoy it yeah and in my opinion I felt like the Sony was the best television for that for that yeah yeah you put it in its custom one profile make sure the color temperature is warm one or you know warm two or custom uh and you're gonna be pretty close to there and then you couple that with the fact that I will say Sony has the best processor in a television right now that's why the Sony x95k is our TV of the year amplifier of the year there were so many good options this year for amplifier and by the way just real quick this category includes both integrated amplifiers as well as Standalone stereo or mono amplifiers and with that out of the way the nominees are the Marantz model 40n emotiva base X A1 Macintosh 7200 Rotel 1592 Mark II Technics g700 Mark II the rocks in a Tesa streaming amplifier and Denon A110 and the winner is the Marantz model 40n yeah this one was a hard category But ultimately for me why the 40n1 is because more than probably any other amplifier we had in-house this entire year we kept going back to it and everything that came through this house kept getting compared to it and it was almost the attessa all that came in so last second and impressed both of us to the point where ah it was my favorite yeah Tessa was my favorite yeah uh but I agree with Andrew you know ultimately we the 40n is the winner yeah uh for reason stated all of these all of these amplifiers the emotiva Super Value could win a value award yeah the Macintosh I know that's probably your personal favorite it was the sonically it was the best amp I heard this year was the 7200. and had they shipped it to us for review with the updated digital module that included HDMI I might have put up a harder fight for it um but again it's it's it's the model 40 Yen congratulations to everybody you all put out some really good products but but Marantz you're the winner that's a that's a killer killer amp right there yeah speaker of the Year under one thousand dollars a pair we reviewed a number of budget friendly speakers this year but there were a few that really stood out so the nominees are the Klipsch RP 600m Mark II projects speaker box 5s2 the r and all 1961 bookshelf speaker and the Polk xt60 Tower but the winner is the project speaker box 5s2 I love this speaker it's so good and yes it is different there isn't another model out there going by a very similar name but that is not the same it's not the same not the same yeah I I agree with you the speaker box it's kind of another product that came out of nowhere you don't who knew you don't at least I don't I don't think of speakers when I think of project I think about turntables but this speaker proves that you can put out a really really well made great sounding product at an affordable price they're really good they're just really really good uh so yes the project speaker box 5s2 is our budget speaker of the Year speaker of the Year costing 1 000 to three thousand dollars probably the most competitive category of the Year this category is starting to represent a real sweet spot in Hi-Fi and home theater I know that we had a difficult time picking a winner but it had to be done and the nominees are monitor audio silver 507g Polk Audio r700 Q acoustic concept 50. sonus Faber Lumina 5 and the JBL 4309 and the winner is Polk Audio r700 who needs high-end am I right this one was actually really hard and I am I'm anticipating a couple people already in the comments going you said the concept 50 was your desert island speaker and you are right you are right but no speaker on this channel has caused Christy or myself and many of you watching this year to stop and really ask yourself some pretty serious philosophical questions about just what do you need in a speaker and what are you buying and if it is truly about performance it's really hard to fault the r700 and the r700 beats the concept 50 because the concept 50 doesn't have the same bass response as the r700 and so for a lot of you you can get away with a pair of r700s and be done where some of you may still want to augment a concept 50 with a subwoofer so all things being equal all around performance it is astonishing what Polk Audio has done with the r700 and that's why it was our speaker of the year in this price bracket it's it's a solid solid speaker and it really is I I think that they should be so proud um yes I will admit the concept 50 is still my favorite um so if you bought the concept 50s I'm telling you you did a good job because they're fantastic yeah you did well and both the r700s and the concept 50s have become part of our ongoing speaker collection for next year so you're gonna be seeing a lot of them so you really can't go wrong with either one but the r700 is our winner high-end speaker of the year over three thousand dollars if you ask me high-end is getting harder and harder to distinguish these days so we're just gonna go buy the price tag this year we are only including speakers that cost more than three thousand dollars a pair and the nominees are Bowers and Wilkins 705 S3 Bowers and Wilkins 805 D4 kef's ls60 Wireless the wharfdale Elysian 4 missions new 770 and the Klipsch Cornwall 4. and the winner is the Bowers and Wilkins 805 D4 this one was hard this one was hard I could have easily gone one of three ways but ultimately for me the reason why I picked the 805 and I think you ultimately agreed with me was since it's a rival we keep pulling it out and we keep listening to it we keep enjoying ourselves with it and we keep finding new and interesting things in the music we listen to through it and it really took me back to like my very first experience with high high-end Bowers and Wilkins so much that I had kind of forgotten how much I missed it so that's why it won for me now I know you put up a fight for another speaker I did I did and I and I know this really surprised you I actually uh made a push for the kef ls60 yeah to win and the reason why I thought it deserved to win is because for me it's one of the more forward-thinking speakers it's wireless so you don't have to think about what amp you put with it if you use the app correctly you can make it sound like anything you want it to sound like yeah and to me that is kind of the future of Hi-Fi and I agree and I agree and it was very close between these these two speakers and I'm sure some of you are even surprised to hear that or maybe you forgot we even did the ls60 I don't know but um there were a lot of really great ones I I know Andrew's uh top top three were the missions the Bowers and Wilkins and the Illusions yeah um we you know the elysians are Maybe I mean if you want to just look at like specs and stuff like that um measurements I think you'll have to correct me if I'm wrong I think the wharf delusion is probably at the top of the list oh I mean I mean pound for pound full range playback I don't know if there's a better value in all of high-end loudspeakers I just I just don't I just don't yes they are massive they are massive they are massive they make r700s look small um the Finish options were not my favorite but there is no denying when we had them in this house with that honken Center Channel our home theater kind of kicked ass oh it it destroyed it just crushed all of these speakers are beautiful yeah and just one quick shout out the the Klipsch the Cornwall four yeah they are stunning yeah because we designed them not that the other is not okay let me rephrase that that sounds like a whole thing to say we customize we customize them the regular finishes that are offered are are beautiful yeah they're great and just just to put some confusion to rest we liked we and still do like the cornwalls yeah you're going to be seeing them they're they're actually coming up in a video in several videos we still have them we liked them uh I apologize for not crying in the Cornwall review like I did in the La Scala review I had no idea that you wanted to see me that emotional all the time they don't they don't but anyway through yeah they're they're very good all of these speakers are deserving yeah of winning so congratulations to everybody congratulations to everybody congratulations to Bowers and Wilkins but honestly if you are one of the fortunate few to have any of the speakers on this list you got something design of the year [Music] this is one of my favorite categories oh I love it because I do feel like an expert in design I'm not but I can say it's this this is our channel so yeah anyway to be nominated these products had to excel in their design construction or innovation the best hopefully embodying all three so the nominees Are kef ls60 Wireless Marantz model 40n the Hi-Fi Rose ra180 the rocks in a Tessa streaming amplifier and the Bowers and Wilkins Panorama 3 Soundbar but there can only be one winner and this year's design of the Year winner is the kef ls60 wireless speaker I don't disagree I don't disagree that speaker by the parameters set and design of the year it hit all three categories out of the park uh yeah out of the park I very impressed with that speaker very very impressed but I I love the design of it I loved how narrow it was I love the fact that when I saw it in the press releases and everyone kept saying it's like it's like a blade-ish type speaker I was expecting something that was like six feet tall it's tiny you could put this in a small space you could put it in an apartment but it works just as well in a large room like ours well they were so so good um yeah they are expensive for a speaker but if you can if you consider that you don't have to buy a bunch of associated equipment then you you are saving a little bit in that regard I think last year's winner was the bail lab 28 28 and this is like half or okay a third it's a third cost um such a good good design and again kind of going back to what I've said previously in this video about the the Kev I just think it's the way forward um and I and I I really enjoyed them yeah yeah I I they're fabulous they're fabulous and they are 100 deserving of design of the Year overall product of the year no intro needed it's time to name the best of the best and the nominees are the Marantz model 40n the Polk r700 project speaker box 5s2 the Samsung q990b LG's C2 OLED Bowers and Wilkins 805 D4 and the Q acoustic concept 50s but the winner is product of the Year overall the Polk r700 I mean again again I don't know if there has been a product that has caused more of us Christy myself and you guys to really hit pause and go what is it we're talking about here I mean it's just I don't want to say it's a generational type of a product or it's like I don't know if it's going to be an icon or it's iconic but I have not come across a speaker on this channel in the three years we've been doing this that has really gotten me to kind of rethink my priorities the way that the r700 has so I agree I mean obviously I haven't been doing this as long as you but the whole Reserve Series has been so impressive I think that coming out with this product has shaken up Hi-Fi in a home theater a little bit I'm sure there's a lot of a lot of Brands out there that are looking that this speaker going whoa where did this come from and how do we especially if you're a higher end company like how do we then how do we rise to the occasion how do we rise to the occasion yeah how do we justify our existence that is that's it right there it's like how do we how do you justify and and you know finishes are one way to do it but sometimes it's like yeah how much you paying for that or how much you willing to pay for that um because performance wise between the between the goal posts as they say oh man yeah it's a it's a damn damn good speaker yeah yeah the bar has just been raised so here we go congratulations Polk your r700 is our overall product of the year my personal product of the year the nominees are Bowers and Wilkins 805 D4 LG's C2 OLED the Denon PMA A110 the Polk Audio r700 Q Acoustics concept 50 and the Klipsch Cornwall fours and my favorite product of the year ah I thought you had this I thought I did too and then in the back of my head it's like well do you should do that no my favorite product of the year has been the Polk r700 it really has um I'm I don't need to go I don't need to gush about it anymore I don't need to go into it anymore it's just it's just great it's just great and that review was one of my favorites all year the discussion that we had at the end of that review is one that I am very proud of you asked an amazing question I didn't know she was going to ask it um so if you haven't seen that review or if you wanna you wanna watch any review that encapsulates what I really hope this channel has been has been become or is about over the course of the last three years uh it's that one and so it has been my favorite product of the year the Polk r700 [Music] but we all know which category you're really here for and that is which is Christy's favorite product of the year I'm speaking to my people hahaha okay okay uh you you made a great selection okay uh it's not the right one but that's fine just hit him with the nominees will you okay the nominees are the Q acoustic concept 50s the rocks and a Tessa the Sony x95k TV Technics r1000 yeah I'm breaking my own rules you did technically deal with it we did technically get it back the JBL bar 5.1 the Clips in ceilings and the Marantz sr8015 receiver all right okay who's your favorite my favorite product of the year is the Q acoustic concept 50 speakers I love those speakers they are the speaker that I want out in my room more than any other speaker true story they sound so good I think they look great I never struggle with understanding movie dialogue which is such an important factor for me there is nothing worse than having to turn to the person you're sitting next to and say what did they say I hate that I do I hate that but I don't have to do that with the Q Acoustics they're so good they sound great with music um they're like the perfect form factor in terms of size they come in white um I love them I love your pick like I said the concept 50s too they're they're really really special was it your backup yeah I think it was I think I think pound for pound both the r700 and the concept 50 in terms of just sheer raw impressiveness is that a word um there no two speakers have routinely continued to put my jaw on the floor and even when we've compared them to speakers that are quote cost No Object they're right there they're right there so we can always pick out one or two things that something twice the price or three times the price does better or differently I'm gonna use the word differently because who's to say it's better um it's just always hard to like say and that makes more expensive or product X just better no it honestly doesn't because there's always one or two things the concept 50 or the r700 does that the other ones can't do at all yeah and so yeah I those two speakers pound per pound most impressive we reviewed on this channel by a country mile I think that's it yep we've I think that's it we yeah we're at the end of our uh that's the show that is the show another year that's 2022. in 2022 almost in the books uh and I can sense when you see the other three reviews coming this year uh in December I'm gonna send some of you asking some questions in the comments like well where would that rank watch those videos and find out or actually tune in next year and yeah you'll have to wait until the next we're not saying yeah we're not saying but anyway uh I love these videos I know you know people say you know words don't matter and all of this and it's it's fun oh crap it's fun bull crap Awards do matter you know because I think that if they didn't matter you guys wouldn't constantly ask well what do you prefer over this I mean that is always a question that with every review well how does it compare to this how does it compare to this and a lot of people a lot of people will start asking us well which is the best and and you know we'll get those questions like in July and and look I get it there are Publications out there that will give that suddenly something is the best of whatever year you're in and it's June and it's like how how we've got six months to go how are you do you are you stopping your you know no more no more products coming in I mean we're closed maybe your rules are different but uh yeah we we try to get as many products in the year as possible yeah um so that we can give you the best educated answer yeah and that means after listening to you know processing and viewing all of them for the whole year yeah so yeah it's it's fun um I want to just again say congratulations to all of the nominees you should be proud of the work you've done um and thanks to all the viewers who continue to watch every week we truly appreciate you um and I guess that's it right yeah that I mean that's it for the products you
