hey guys welcome back to Eileen's world and the next stop on my world tour and one of my favorite cities in the world Tokyo I spent three weeks in Tokyo and I'll be sharing a four day guide around the city with my favorite places to visit eat and things to do I'll also be sharing some optional day trips if you have more time as well we flew into Narita Airport and as of April 2023 you will need to create an account on the visit Japan website to speed up the customers process upon arrival you can complete quarantine Immigration and Customs information online ahead of time always check the website for any new updates you'll need these three screenshots in border control so make sure you have them ready the best way to get around the city is by using the subway train and by walking unlike other countries in Asia Rideshare apps like uber are quite expensive I added the passmo card to my Apple wallet and was able to charge it using a MasterCard if you do not have a MasterCard you can charge or reload it at most convenience stores or at the station keep in mind if you're reloading your card in person at a store or at a station you can only pay with cash these cards can also be used as form of payments at Shops restaurants and net vending machines to my surprise cash is vital in Japan some shops and restaurants are cash only while major stores convenience stores and chain restaurants will accept credit card so it's necessary to always have cash on hand I found the best money exchange rates at shops in Akihabara and Shinjuku if you do not have cash to exchange then ATMs are also widely available accommodation will probably be your biggest expense in Tokyo we booked our Airbnb for three weeks in ikebukuro which was just a short train ride away from Shinjuku Harajuku and Shibuya so you walk in and you have this little entryway you have the toilet here which is separated from everything else and now the rest of the apartment so you can walk in we got our kitchen over here we have everything we need we have a rice cooker Kettle microwave fridge sink stove we are responsible for separating all of our garbage here there's a TV the little work desk we have this huge window and we have this bar which I assume is to hang to dry the clothes I think we have our bed a little seating area here and then through this store is where you have the shower the washing machine and the sink the bathroom's actually really decently sized considering how small this apartment is from my experience hotels and airbnbs in Japan have late check-in times either 3 or 4 P.M so if you arrive early into the city you can use the echo cloak app to find a place to store your luggage most train stations have lockers as well but busier stations tend to get full very quickly so this app helps you find other locations that can also store your luggage good morning everyone today is or day one of my official Tokyo guide we are in asakusa this morning we will be going to sensoji Temple we'll be going to Tokyo Sky Tree we've been here for about two weeks and also we're practically locals no not really but I'm really excited to kind of do all the touristy things for you guys in this video first things first let's get something to drink I'm gonna get a coffee that looks that looks fine or this one I don't know eeny meeny miny moe well this one's cheaper so this is a black coffee but it's sweetened already pretty good if you like iced coffee you don't like creamer in it holy she asakusa is the perfect spot to rent a kimono for the day there are plenty of shops around and prices start at around 30 US dollars for a basic package which includes hair and accessories as well during peak season I highly recommend booking ahead of time online or you can also walk into a store to see if they can take you getting into a komodo is an experience itself and I can't recommend it enough foreign a written Fortune now so have a hundred yen we're gonna drop it in shake this character so now I have to find this character I got the best Fortune you will meet good luck by chance just like a gem from the Rocks while you are digging and just in case you got a bad fortune it will say on the paper it's a bad fortune and you can tie it over here this is red bean and mochi we also got the Stick of the white strawberry the regular strawberries I get dibs on that one because that one's expensive Mom you can get the regular one oh okay we got some sweet potato cake was it 300 Yen each or together each it was 300 Yen each strawberry stuff strawberry stuff with us so we got some yams that have like a what sauce is this mom a syrup over it ooh it's gooey just a couple minutes from sin soji Temple is umemura a small shop specializing in traditional Japanese dessert I came here twice during my visit to try the ad mitsa which is a cold sweet dessert with jelly fruit Dango azuki bean paste and a dark brown syrup there are no photos or videos allowed but during our second visit the nice lady let us take some photos foreign we're here on the eighth floor which is where we have the viewing deck and on this side you have a whole entire view of nakamise Dori Street we are now going to head over to that building there where the Asahi headquarters are at and we're gonna have a beer can you tell that it looks like a tall glass of beer with some foam on the top we finally got seated and we got a corner View actually we're a big party of six so they had to separate us but as soon as we got seated some space freed up in this and this fit together now and we're facing we are just leaving the Asahi building very nice experience from the Asahi building to the Tokyo Sky Street should be like 10 minutes we are at Tokyo Skytree and they have this store which I'll put the name on the screen but they have every single kind of anime or cartoon character that you like they have a good tired dedicated section with like all the merch from that character I'll show you we got some BTS hair clips would you like some Doraemon towels with what I assume is going to be your name on it we have high chew merch look there's High chews in here we got a pen with some koala biscuits on it oh my goodness thank you you can do shrimp and miso shrimp and salt or shrimp and show you and I got the shrimp and miso you can get thick noodles or thin noodles and I got thick noodles and also ordered an onigiri I've never gotten it from Russia before I've always just gotten the ones from Family Mart or 7-Eleven or Lawsons treatment we just finished our lunch yeah we found this cute little matcha spot so we got the tri-color one which has like a brown rice a roasted tea and a matcha saucer with a Sky Tree spoon on it [Music] if you're a cooking buff into kitchenware or want to see stores full of realistic food samples then check out capabashi street you'll find store selling everything from restaurant uniforms Japanese knives to colorful bowls and kitchen gadgets and of course you gotta see the giant Chef statue [Music] this is where we are headed we just got to the train it couldn't have been a more packed like sardines ride but we made it so team lab opens up at nine o'clock and we got tickets to enter the first time slot which is from 9 to 9 30 and I bought these tickets I want to say maybe two weeks ago online because a lot of the dates were already sold out here is a line situation it's 8 58 and we're going in some areas water depths are knee deep we put everything in our locker we got our keys [Music] wow [Music] thank you [Music] all right Pro tip make sure you wear pants that you can easily roll up like maybe not like skinny jeans or something because this is Shin deep [Music] good morning I guess the wolf just for a moment will be playing very shortly [Music] it's almost 11 o'clock and we just finished at Team Labs my one tip is to make sure you get the earliest ticket possible because like it's just hordes of people after that in one of the exhibits it is kind of a I can see if you're older or not physically fit it's going to be pretty difficult for you to crawl to the other side of the room but there is a detour it's just that they don't really tell you what you're kind of getting yourself into I mean I had three old people with me and they they're fine now we are going to go to the new fish market building which should be right next to where team Labs is at and then from there we're going to go over to the old fish building and get some lunch we've made it in this is the food area looks like people are getting in line and get their fresh seafood wow all right we got our two stamps we're still looking for a tuna tuna stand lots of informative things here that's your style you know since we can't see the tune auction there's some graphics here for us so this is a blue fin tuna caught in Japanese Waters in 19. 86 it's one of the largest traded in the tsuchiki market I assume this is where you could watch it from the sign said auction typically from 5 30 to 6 30 in the morning we're only like six hours late or something do you know why the floor is green let me tell you because green is complementary to red and when they're taking a look at the tuna meat which is red they want to see how red it is um there's a fun fact for the day it is definitely very crowded here headed trying to find a place to get some lunch and that will fit a party of six which is proving to be quite difficult here in Japan just because the restaurants are typically super small people eat by themselves or like a party of two but they make it work we make it work Lisa and I split in a table of two but they're next to each other so it's all good all right this is where we're having our lunch oh God we got some tunes do you like the fish ing if you're the first time you eat fish egg foreign [Music] look what we have in hand I think we wait about 30 minutes in line and then waited well in total from getting in line to making it does take a while and it's hot and we're gonna find a place to go eat it now let me break off a piece hmm frippy I'm not a shrimp fan but at least this part is good [Music] [Music] we've got some green tea foreign store in Ginza which is apparently Super Famous and I found my favorite toy the monkey name something more Kawaii than the face of a Monchichi [Music] [Music] thank you so a lot of the things are kind of sold out here we wanted The Omelette rice it was sold out so I got the hamburger which you can never go wrong with yum yum yum yum yum yum yum yum good morning we are starting our day off well not at takashita Street we're just waiting for our family to come and we said why don't we take advantage of the time that it's not full of people so it's 10 o'clock right now and nothing is open hence no crowds there are no crowds to beat because there are no stores that are open but we passed by this otter Cafe while we were strolling through the street this morning and it looks like they open at 10 45. this group in front of me told me that they don't take reservations which is perfect because we don't have any we're gonna do the 25 minute option which is 1600 Yen we just saw this band just drop off the Otters to start their work day they're just like us we gotta change into a whole thing jacket skirt mask and sandals also video recording within 10 intense foreign [Music] we just finished up at the otter Cafe and it was super fun Ashley was I'm an otter Cafe because no drinks are available which is fine by me I think when you have to order drinks and stuff it wastes time 25 minutes is perfect perfect amount of time to spend over there so highly recommend that if you didn't get enough at Otter's petting or prefer another animal me pig Cafe is another popular option with location in Harajuku and here you can play and pet micro pigs over a cup of coffee and donut make sure to make reservations well in advance if you want to visit because spots fill up quickly [Music] we are at Santa Monica Crepes and I'm 99.9 sure that the cashier is also the crepe maker and there's only one person working because this line is taking forever oh yeah there he is he's a it's a one one-man show one-man band over here we got the food and custard pardon my French with custard and mixed berries pretty good if you're in Japan make sure you bring a plastic bag or something that you just keep and collect your trash throughout the day because if you didn't know it's very hard about a trash can so you might as well just try to keep it organized till you get home [Music] [Music] so we got a couple what would you call these um sorry this one is for finding the right mate I believe I believe and this one is for protection of your family right we are now grabbing lunch at the food court Cafe inside of the shrine I have a pretty good variety you have udon you got some rice Curry yakisoba I got some Kitsune udon and a dongle we are all finished up with lunch and I definitely recommend if you're looking for some really quick food pretty inexpensive tasty and you're at the Meiji Shrine and you're like I can't be bothered to go find food somewhere else definitely check out that Cafe uh we all ordered something different and we really liked it and we also got the roasted green tea ice cream on the cafe side and it was she there are two parks around this area that you can easily walk to shinjoku going National Park and yoyogi park between the two I enjoy Shinjuku Gowan National Park more even without the cherry blossoms entrance is 500 yen and there are some beautiful views of the city and a greenhouse inside of the park the yogi park was the site of the Olympic Village during the 1964 Tokyo Olympics and it's free to enter [Music] we are now at the Tokyo Metropolitan building and we're gonna head up to the observatory I visited three times during my stay in Tokyo and the wait time always range from 10 to about 20 minutes and it was never too long despite how long the line looked this is something that any other country would charge you like thirty dollars for and first things first I see a gift shop [Music] thank you [Music] the second floor now where you'll find some 2020 Olympic memorabilia stuff so we have this up here we got the 2020 mascots that are again like everything else here Kawaii [Music] foreign last minute decision here is our selection of five five chai my favorite [Music] we can only eat wagyu from now on I got a jacket today [Music] I am on my way to the train station today we are taking a trip outside of Tokyo and we're heading to Kamakura [Music] we made it we arrived we stopped at the Kita Kamakura station it feels to be out of the city and I've only just stepped one foot outside of the train station so here's a map of Kamakura and all of the temples shrines that they have here it's like so many we just came from this one because that's where we got dropped off we are now at komachi Dori Street which is kind of like the Lively busy area of this town I guess you can get souvenirs here and food which is what we're trying to do pretty Lively is the most amount of people we've seen in a while you're hungry just got a little something to hold me over until we find a proper restaurant this is 400 Yen and it has shrimp Mayo onion it's like a giant fish cake pretty much fine it's like Mayo filling good so I got a little buddha good luck Buddha I got the custard filling and my brother got a red bean filling [Music] honestly there's so much street food available here we might just try a little bit of everything and then we won't even need to sit down and have a real meal got a strawberry that's like dipped in sugar it was 500 yen and my mom wanted to try this cucumber we thought maybe be dipped to Sugar but it's not what is it salty right salty this is 300 Yen well I didn't realize [Music] it's like sweet no no no it's salty pickle I guess it's also called a pickle right and we also got a croissant taiyaki so this one has like all those little white fishes in it it's called White bait I didn't know that yeah not bad so we stumbled across this cutest little peanut shop they got us with the samples we tried one of each lemon green apple oh my God they're so good they're like nuts covered with like a cracker but flavored cracker the lemon one kind of is like fruit loops that green apple one was really good we bought green apple and this is the Lemon one I was telling you guys about that's really good you can also get a sampler package with a mix of flavors for just 486 yen all the Buddha merch all the Buddha merch right over here look at this look at this pen [Music] oh my God how cute is this she's wearing a watermelon hat all right we are going to take the train now to go over to see the Giant Buddha and looks like everybody's coming back from it we made it to the great Buddha and it's from the train it's literally a straight walk about seven minutes but if you stop to buy a bunch of food like we did then it might take a little longer closes at five We Made It by four we spent so much time on that street finding food for eating food and going to the stores we finally made it four o'clock so I gave my brother my mom a hundred Yen so that they can go inside they'll have to report back we're running a lot of money over here you know so it's like we can't all go and plus includes at 420 so they have like that must say the gift shop here is very impressive we got Buddha everything we got Buddha cookies we got more Buddha sweets red bean Buddha Buddha cookie of course I couldn't help myself I got a Hello Kitty towel she's pulling the Rickshaw driving the Rickshaw and there's Buddha in the back and if you're here you're in the station you need a snack you got to come and try these Croquettes they are so freaking delicious they only come in two flavors you can get the big Kamakura which is just mince meat potatoes and onions which was and then you have the Murasaki IMO koroke which is sweet chestnuts and sweet potatoes if you leave Kamakura once a great Buddha closes at five o'clock and head back to Tokyo there will be enough time to explore Akihabara in my opinion it's more fun to walk a rocky Hopper at night when all the lights of the buildings are on this is the center of anime gaming and manga and you can easily spend a couple hours roaming the streets visiting a maid or animal Cafe trying to win the Squishies plus you can with a UFO catcher or spending your 100 yen coins on a gashapon machine we've changed into slippers fitting everything in the locker let's try a green tea warm oh it's perfect it's warm and if you have more time in Tokyo or traveling with kids here are my favorite half and full day trips nearby Tokyo puroland this is a must for all Hello Kitty fans of all ages it takes around an hour from City Center by train and tickets are around twenty dollars the park opens from 10 to 5 PM so you really only need half a day to experience the entire park it's an indoor park with a few rides geared towards kids but I had just as much fun on them there are several shows and meet and greets throughout the day they have a couple gift shops a cafe and a buffet so there's plenty to do even if you don't want to wait in line for the rides Disney sea and Tokyo Disneyland if you love Disneyland you have to experience it Japanese style both parks are around an hour from the city center by train and only one day tickets are available so unfortunately Park hopping is not an option both parks are truly amazing but if you're limited on time or going to both parks is not in your budget I recommend going to Tokyo DisneySea since that Park is completely unique and trying all the Disney themed food is enough reason to visit and that wraps up my Tokyo guide Tokyo is one of my favorite cities and even being that for three weeks was not enough I hope you found this guide helpful in planning your trip and please leave your questions down in the comments below and follow me on Instagram at it's Eileen's world for real-time updates on where I'm at on my world tour Arigato goza Master watching and I'll see you in my next video thanks [Music] foreign [Music]
