hell is that it's a beaver dude that looks like a solid block of ice i will get into that beaver one way or another that's a sumptuous piece that's pretty disgusting the colorado rockies are literally the backbone of north america as beautiful as they are they will leave you a dried up corpse in a heartbeat there's cold and then there's painful cold if you breathe through your nose too fast your nostrils will stick together conditions like these can be fatal to anyone caught unprepared in the rocky's icy ranges to make matters worse one of the pair leaves the safety of the car to find help and becomes lost an all-too-common occurrence and often a deadly mistake sending one person off by themselves in an environment like this is stupid if you don't have your together you're going to be dead cody my priority right now is to get cody back to me as fast as i can cody he's out there by himself in a very cold situation that guy will not survive a night out here without a fire owner's manual that's going to come in handy for some good tinder i've got a tool box with no holes in it god bless these guys all right i've got a tire got some jumper cables very nice i can use these for sure and i know that will start a spark as this battery in this car still works so here's my idea i'm going to use these jumper cables put them on the battery create a spark but i need something to catch that spark so what i plan on doing is draining some of the gas out of this vehicle some way the spark will catch the gas on fire and throw it right into my uh tp over there and get the fire cooking so what i'm gonna do is i'm gonna cut some of the back of the seat off and use it as a rag my plan is to just take the fuel out of the fuel filter oh there's the fuel tank i can see the fuel line there's a little alligator clip that is holding the fuel line on you know when your hands are cold you lose complete dexterity and that is the pain in the ass right now because i'd never be able to do this with my gloves on [Music] come on baby i've got everything i need to get this fire going the only thing i need to do is to connect the jumper cables to the battery and make a spark red on red red goes on positive black goes on the negative [Music] it works that's what i'm looking for right there that spark so i'm gonna set it right in the ah fire we go that's what i'm talking about beautiful so right now i've got a fire that's great but as you can see cody's never gonna see this smoke so i've gotta create black smoke so what i need to do quickly is get some pine vials and i'm going to use that tire that's in the back to throw that on the fire and it'll make some black smoke so what i'm going to do is just put a hole in it you've got to take the air out of it or it's going to explode and that's it good to go when rubber burns rubber gives off black smoke and that's what i need i need the contrast of the black against the sky you can see the gray of the pine balls but if you look over here you can see the tire burning it's just starting to catch hopefully he'll see this i've got the fire going i've got some black smoke going but eventually that's going to burn out so he's got to be situationally aware and look for something like this [Music] cody hey down here man [Music] you okay what are you okay yeah dude i was getting worried about you dude you all right man yeah you sure i'm tired take a rest warm up right off the bat i can see a disabled vehicle very stuck but with resources nonetheless i see a god blessed fire with fuel wood around it and i see my partner is not injured he's in good health but there's never any guarantee in a survival situation that you're going to survive through it this vehicle runs i tried to get it out as you can see it's not going anywhere how much gas did it have in it less than a quarter tank okay we don't want to wake up dead so does the heater work have you checked it yes i've turned it on it does blow and it is hot yes okay so that doesn't blow the fact that it does blow an often overlooked threat in cold weather survival is dehydration in frigid conditions a person can lose up to two quarts of water per day by just breathing as moisture is forced from the lungs with every breath what i'm going to do is set this close to the fire not on it because this tool box is painted and the last thing i want to do is bubble this paint off into the water that cody and i are going to be drinking so i'm just going to sit this thing and let it just melt naturally because we can't eat the snow it's going to lower your body core temperature fresh snow contains only 10 percent water so large amounts have to be eaten and melted inside the body in order to stave off dehydration further depleting the body of heat and calories [Music] hey cody take a look and see how much water we have right now man i know it's not a lot but it's better than nothing what do you think we got in there uh two-thirds of a quart go and pour some in here tastes like tobacco and rolling papers well at least we have a perpetual way to make that [Music] are we screwed it's the bed we're out of gas i guess we better talk about plan b the thing that happens with a vehicle in cold country is if you lose gasoline and the heater no longer works essentially it's an ice box it still cuts convection it deals with the wind and it'll keep you dry but there's no heat source this is no longer an option and we need to find another place to shelter you've got to think out of the box this is no longer a car period so you've got to compartmentalize this thing and look at each piece how can that help me food water shelter fire so i'm thinking i can tear this out first thing i see when i pop the hood are wires and i want them so coating i can have some cordage and that's what i'm looking for right there there's five six seven eight nine ten fifteen wires that's good stuff what i want from this vehicle is all the foam from the seats that's dead airspace supreme right there so we'll stuff our clothing with this we'll sit on this we'll make a bed of this whatever it takes insulation saves lives out here i want most of the carpet whatever will come up i want the headliner whatever we can take that's accessible directly to preventing hypothermia or acetylene for rescue ripping apart this old automobile makes me feel joy hey joe how do you feel [Music] how are you doing on your end i have an idea if we can take this hood off we can use this as a sled put all of our stuff on even though our new shelter is within close proximity of this vehicle the last thing we want to do is burn more calories so we want to make one trip oh there you go got it good job man cody what i'm doing here i'm just gonna put three sticks international distress signal and make an arrow pointing in the direction we're going even though this truck is in a highly distressed appearance i still want to put some other things out just in case somebody comes by here i think it's pretty obvious that someone got screwed here yeah so we put the gear on there santa sleigh on donna on blitzen i'll be rudolf too because my nose is better than joe's and we'll pull that sled up the mountain we go should i make farm animal noises no just give a little go i see a shape in the snow and it looks like a beaver is it dead is it live who the hell knows so i'm not going to rush up there with open arms i don't want to mess around with a angry beaver what man does that's a big beaver hey joe yeah come here a minute [Music] what the hell is that it's a beaver check it out you must be kidding me that's something you don't see every day wow what the hell we going to do with it i want to take it back to camp this has got to be less than 24 hours i have a license to pick up roadkill so i've eaten a lot of weird dead things we wouldn't even attempt this beaver if it wasn't flash frozen eyes intact no odor it's like a beaver sickle ready to eat dude that thing's like a solid block of ice believe me i will get into that beaver one way or another let's get it back by the fire i will take that beaver back to camp sit it by the fire light buy it flowers romance it and i'll have that beaver eaten before you can say 20. [Music] how in the hell am i going to cut this thing up i wish i had a chainsaw i'm pretty sure i can get this tail off i remember reading somewhere that beaver tail was actually a delicacy to the old pioneers it's always a first man this thing is literally like a block of ice [Applause] animal meat that is frozen and kept it zero degrees fahrenheit or below is safely preserved wow this extreme cold hinders the growth of microorganisms and slows down the changes that cause spoilage boy oh boy it is literally frozen solid wow all right man [Music] there we go yeah [Music] damn it tastes like crap tastes like eating the fat on a salmon god bless look at that that's a sumptuous piece look at that it's like a big rat tail that's pretty disgusting [Music]
