The sounds you can hear even with cheap speakers, But you can experience the vividly distinct sounds when you hear them through these studio-grade speakers. It's the kind of speaker where you like to listen to all your favorite music once in a while. Today I would like to talk about soybean paste stew. Speaker and soybean paste stew?? Take a listen. It makes sense. The most important ingredient for soybean paste stew is soybean paste. You can make various stew according to your "taste". Just as you can make various foods with a sauce called soybean paste, think about what kind of output will be output when the sound source corresponding to soybean paste is input to the amplifier The representative amp that colors the original sound the most is the guitar amp. I really put soybean paste in it and it comes out with soybean paste stew (sometimes kimchi stew comes out too) , depending on the amp, it's a British-style soybean paste stew or an American-style soybean paste stew Because each guitar amp sounds so different, it is sometimes thought of as a category of instruments. But it's not just guitar amps. Devices that listen to music are similar. We don't hear the sound the way the creators intended it to be in the studio. Even if you change a few headphones and listen to it, you can tell that the sound is different. In the end, people often listen to music by choosing devices according their personal taste. In other words, although not as much as a guitar amp, it can be said that each device for listening to music has its own unique sound. So, people often distinguish between a "hi-fi" device that colorizes the sound richly, or a "monitoring" device that aims for an unadorned sound. For those who produce music in the studio, they have to think about what kind of device the consumer will listen to. Excessive production of certain sound will cause problems. This means that the soybean paste should not be too salty or too sweet so that it can be used as a cooking ingredient according to your taste . In other words, the speakers used by engineers in the studio should not emphasize or inaudible certain areas. They need a system that gives out a certain sound without embellishment within the audible frequency. Speakers developed for that purpose are called "monitoring speakers". The general public wants to hear the sound that engineers hear when they work in the studio .. Such demand has existed since the past. So, according to such demand, products for monitoring purposes were often used in general households. Personally, I prefer that type of speaker. In the past, people used a lot of passive speakers. A separate amplifier was required. For example, YAMAHA NS-10M These days, active speakers with built-in amplifiers are the mainstream. Among these types of products, three of the most famous brands are FOCAL from France, ADAM from Germany, and GENELEC from Finland 3 very famous brands for those who do business.. I carefully think they are the most used brands in the studio. Prices are not cheap. If you are new to this brand, you may be surprised. Conversely, those who are accustomed to expensive HIFI product prices may feel that it is a cost-effective product. Depending on the approach of this price, it may be expensive or cheap. By my personal standards (apart from the price), it's the final boss. It makes me wonder whether I'm qualified to review this product. The GENELEC 8000 series is famous. Through this video, I would like to give 8000 vs G series information to those who know the product, and introduce these types of speakers to those who are new to GENELEC. As I said, GENELEC has 8010~8050 series. In addition, there are some more expensive products out there. However, due to the relatively low price, the 8000 series seems to have sold the most The size is getting bigger from 8010 to 8050. G series is basically the same product as 8000 series. Usually, when selling the Pro version for home use, most companies remove some features and lower the price to market. For example, the difference between iPhone vs iPhone Pro Genelec seems to take the opposite approach. They added a few features to the 8000 Professional series and made it for home use. (Added RCA input, simplified input sensitivity setting) For example, the GENELEC G3 here is basically the same as the 8030. Rather, convenience has been added and the price has risen slightly. The product shown behind is the G5. I'll take a look at that product a little later. The advantage of these speakers is that they do not require a separate amplifier. You only need to connect the source device. A cheap PC speaker has power and circuitry on one side, and only the speaker wire is connected to the other speaker. Professional equipment over a certain price range has an independent amplifier for each speaker. So, the price is set on the basis of "one box". In the case of the G series, since it is a product for home use, the price is set on the basis of two pieces (1 pair). It's a 2 way system. Power LED Floor support made of elastic material (adjustable angle) The high-pitched sound has a strong straightness, so it is recommended to set it toward the ear. Therefore, when installing on the floor or table, it is better to face upward as much as possible. It looks like plastic, but the reason it's expensive is... aluminum. It is said that aluminum is used to minimize the resonance of the speaker exclosure because it can make the sound colorful at an exquisite point, but it is an element of seasoning that is different from the original sound in a way. Because the bass port is facing back, you may run into problems with unwanted bass amplification if you mount it close to a wall. In general, passive hi-fi speakers often have to be listened to as they are manufactured, but active-type monitoring speakers are capable of active sound tuning. GENELEC as well as other brands offer similar features. LOW BASS : ROLL-OFF This switch cuts the unwanted amplified frequency band. You can create a slightly flatter frequency response using these switches. ISS : Whether to use power saving mode LED OFF : Function to turn off the LED when it is annoying LEVEL : -10dB Input sensitivity adjustment The amplifier amplifies proportionally. For example, if you can output 100 when receiving an input of 10, If it is only 1, then only the output of 10 is possible, not the output of 100. However, there are two main types of input signal (LINE LEVEL). The boundaries are a bit blurry, but the LINE LEVEL voltages on pro vs consumer devices are different. Naturally, the voltage of the signal of the pro-grade equipment is high. For reference, the weakest signal is an absurd output of 0.5Vrms based on 1kHz sine due to the Hearing Protection Act of smartphones sold in Korea.. Other overseas versions output up to 1Vrms. 100% output is not available if this device is made only for professional grade equipment. So, there is a switch that can adjust the input sensitivity (in the case of 8030, you can adjust it by turning the knob) -10dB As the switch is turned ON/OFF, the input sensitivity changes. Even if you input a small signal (household equipment), a large output is possible. If you calculate and measure the headroom very precisely, there may be a numerical difference when you measure it, but in reality, you can only feel the difference in how sensitive the volume of the source device is. (However, the domestic version of the smartphone is a bit frustrating) I will show you the experimental results a little later if you look at the specifications, it is said that the most flat frequency response comes out when all cut switches are off, but this space is not perfect. It is a space with a lot of reflected sound. The sound coming from the speaker is not 100% transmitted to my ears direct, but it bounces around this space and enters my ears. In the process, as frequencies overlap, certain sounds become louder or softer. So, if you do a frequency response test in this space, there is bound to be a difference from that announced by the manufacturer. However, it can be adjusted through a switch so that the characteristic is as close to a straight line as possible. In the case of the bass roll off switch, you can feel a difference in an instant, but the sound does not change completely depending on each switch. However, it is also true that you can feel the difference when you listen to the recordings after making the final adjustments. RCA terminals have been added to the G series. In fact, if you have an XLR input, you shouldn't have any problems using it. You can buy or make a conversion cable and connect it. Especially if you don't use long cables of several tens of meters, the balanced advantage of XLR is almost meaningless. Now let's take a look at the G5. The size is BIG ! The woofer sizes vary a lot. Looking at the specs, the difference in bass reproduction ability is obvious. There is a difference even if you listen to it. I can tell the difference with my eyes closed. Amplifier circuit is G1,2,3 - Class D G4,6 - Class A/B It is hard to tell the difference between the two methods with my ears... But it is still Class A/B that Class A/B is used for expensive products I guess it's because it's getting a little better sound quality. The peculiar thing is that the rear control part is very different from the G3. There are many more sophisticated switches that can cut frequencies. The fact that the Treble has a + switch is also unique. Also, there is no power saving switch. Because this is using a mechanical switch. It is the same with the addition of RCA input. In terms of HIFI, a speaker of this size is not big, but I think the maximum size that can be placed on my desk is about the G3 I have been using both products continuously for over a week. It is impossible to deliver the sound of this speaker through a YouTube video. Instead, I will show you a little recorded file comparing the G3 and G5. When I first listened to only the G3, the bass sound was really satisfactory.. but the moment I listened to the G5... lol But.. One thing to point out is that this space is a place where I can listen to music at high volume. At high volume, the G5 was absolutely better in terms of performance, but at home I can't listen to music at that volume. At the volume I listen to at home, I rather like the G3's balance. In a way, even the G3 feels a little overwhelming at home. In reality (at home or in the corner of the room), I wonder if the G1 (8010) is optimal. The reason the 8010 sold so much was its low price as well as limited space. I think it's because it gives the best balance in home volume. I'm enjoying making shitty DIY speakers. To be honest, I haven't been able to make a speaker that objectively sounds good. It's just the level of enjoying the process of making and destroying. It's been a long time since I've listened to music with a proper speaker, and one interesting thing is that I've been listening to all of my favorite music at least once. The frequency response curve doesn't say everything. You can make a good frequency response curve with a guitar amp. But I can't listen to music with it. It is also important to achieve clean amplification without distortion. When I listen to the music I often listen to through this speaker, did this music have this kind of sound??? You will make a lot of these discoveries. It's not like you can't hear sounds from cheap speakers. Yes, you can hear it, too. However, in that speaker, the sound was cluttered and had no presence, but in such a high-quality system, it popped out. So, I listened to all the music I liked once in a while. Just in case.. for those of you who are waiting to open it.. I took an additional video.
