Mother Nature you Matt and Joe are on the coast of the Pacific Northwest we are literally between a rock and a hard place caught by crashing waves everything's soaking wet very shortly Matt and I are going to be up to hear in water with no room for error if you fall off right there at sheer cliff in one of the darkest and wetest terrains on Earth this place just breeds hypothermia we every path to rescue ship horn is a dead end over here one match say a prayer come on the Pacific Northwest this Rocky Coast that stretches from Oregon to Canada's Vancouver Island has claimed over 2,000 ships in the past two centuries burning these Waters the nickname graveyard of the Pacific in this scenario alone fisherman in a wooden boat gets caught by an unexpected storm and the ocean sends his craft into the jagged Shore leaving him stranded there's not a whole lot of nothing left to that boat this boat has wrecked right on the shoreline problem is right now the tides are coming up so anytime a big wave or swell comes in we were caught in the wrong spot we can be swept out and Seed hey Matt I got a vest right now speed is security so Matt and I are going to gather up everything we can find and get back to safety what do you think Matt that's about it let's just bring it here out of the tideline we got a net what what's that shiny thing there's a lure tangled up it's got hooks on it oh good deal hey what's in that tin nothing it's empty we got some fishing line which would be nice beautiful some cordage vest is this a shirt yeah these blankets everything's soaking wet but we'll be able to dry them out at some point you know Matt the Tide's coming in fast where we just came from is underwater our plan right now is to get off of this Coastline because the tide is coming in quickly like right now bundle this stuff up the problem is to our left is nothing but Cliff we are literally between a rock and a hard place so let's move with a purpose quick we're going to have to walk down this Coast and hopefully find a way out of here it's raining on and off you've got high winds and the temperatur dropping this is textbook hypothermia situation oh no mother nature you if you're out in a situation like this where you can't get protected from the elements it could go downhill really fast damn wave got my foot wet so shelter is going to be really key got some caves oh yeah these are tital caves though that's a problem you can see how high the waters come up to here where the Moss line is this would all be underwater here soon definitely don't want to be here this is looking a little bit more inviting looks like we're above the tideline about as good as it gets huh yeah let's go check out that hole right there man see how far back that goes we found one area that's a little bit protected from the winds here and there's a cave take a quick peek Mac just to make sure we don't have any company caves are great shelters but animals like the hidinger and we are in Black Bear Country and cougar country well no grizzly bears came out of there I'm thinking this is home for the night I'm thinking we don't have a choice it's getting dark right now let me just throw up a down and dirty shelter for us just make it comfortable for the night well if you got that covered I'm going to go back down the shoreline I saw some muscles down there that sounds good done deal main thing with any shellfish really is to be careful it doesn't doesn't have red tide which is basically an organism that gets inside the meat and it creates a neurotoxin that can infect humans that if you get that it can kill you so I want a test for that what I'm going to do is crack it open and put my tongue right on the meat and I'm going to give that about 10 minutes and see it how it feels if my tongue starts to go a little bit numb then I know it's not safe to eat so I'm going to keep seeing what I can find around here and if it feels good I'm to come back here and collect some this will be perfect for collecting some water it's bulk K so it's got a big Hollow bulb in it stuff like this in nature is just golden when you find it these vest are actually made in layers so I'm going to lay those down first as a base and then just grab a bunch of these ferns lay them down and call it a date minimizing heat loss to the cold ground through conduction and to win through convection is critical for containing heat I can barely see you in there Joe's got a big nest built in the cave and I'm a huge fan of nest because it gets you off the cold ground which just sucks the heat out of you it's actually not bad in there you know we're out of the wind we should be all right man 90% of people that have hypothermia are usually dehydrated as well so it's very important for us to get water in our body and have everything work efficiently raw fish and other marine animals contain water to Aid digestion which will also help Joe and Matt generate body heat I was trying to maybe collect just a few of these drops I got a some of this bull Kel right now we're still stuck down here without any major fresh sources of water but mean we could collect rain water that's a good spot we should have at least a few sips before we go to bed whenever I see people eating raw oysters and muscles I always scratch my head it's like eating a slimy salty snot how could that possibly taste good [Music] just tastes like crap but for someone in this situation Matt and I need to refuel and we've got to eat what we've got to eat something at least it's [Music] calories that was a close one I mean we're lucky to find this place no doubt man with the dawn of a new day Matt and Joe set out in search of a route to get off the coast I don't want to spend another night down here noo I don't think we can get through that we're hitting a few dead ends here and there having to Circle back we're going to have to keep moving on and see if we can find something a little bit better kind of at our last leg here seemed like this spot had some possibility we got to make something work here Matt he what about this right here the only thing I'm worried about is that stuff is growing out of the rock Matt and I are basically in a dead end Cove is nothing but sheer Cliff but up to my left it looks like there's a way out of here let's see if we at least get up to that tree and if we can let's just keep going yeah let's do it this is a very slippery envir we're on a very steep slope but right now this little razor Ridge is our only option out of here all right yeah nice one think we got through it wow look at that that thing snapped off 30 ft in the air man that's a good thing it's not windy right now [Music] dude look at that ah I look off to my left and I see what looks like a trap cigarette butts little candy bar of some sort 6 G of fat sounds really good about now find the candy bar for us man yeah this Trapper definitely was not very conscious of the environment oh dude don't even tease me but his laxidasical attitude out here is actually going to be helpful for us oh that is gold out in this environment looks like there's just a few matches in there slightly damp it's hard to say if they're going to work or not we need to figure out what we're going to do Matt it seems like it'd be a good idea since we've seen this trap to go ahead and stay put prepared for the Long Haul I'm just not feeling this right now I think what we should do is is be very proactive trying to pick up this guy's Trail this is the difference between Matt and I I want to be proactive right now Matt likes to Camp he likes to stay out in nature like this this is what he does I think the best course of action right now is just go ahead and make the shelter hunker down be warm be comfortable the night so we could wait for the Trapper to come back all the signs indicate that this trap's being used somebody's going to come back here we're not hurting right now it'd be okay for us to go ahe and build a shelter I don't like being reactive waiting for him to come back is literally putting my fate in his hands and where I come from you don't do that I don't want to be Sheltering right now but I don't want to get into a pissing contest with Matt right now so I'll take one for the team with that said if you're going to work on the shelter why don't I work on trying to get a fire going yeah let me go look for PS there's lots of him loock BS here so I'm going to pile those up nice thing about them is they fan out and felt together so I don't need a lot of main body to get it to all hold together so what I'm going to do is focus the sod on the parts where Joe and I are going to be sleeping so the rain doesn't hit us directly and then that whole thing will still keep breathing really well all right nice one you feel good you got everything yeah man I'm going to give it a shot no promises we'll see walking up the creek I saw a fish there I'm going to just go down by the creek and check it out sounds good we do have a little bit of daylight left so I'm going to go down by the creek and see if I can come up with a plan to catch some fish in colder conditions like this being able to stay warm is critical you have to get a fire you have to get food fire fuels your heat from the outside and food fuels it from the inside but I'm not sure if it's going to work or not I'm just making some very fine shavings it's relatively dry and I'm going to use that hopefully to catch a spark off one of these matches last night wasn't exactly comfortable I would like to be able to dry ourselves out dry out that blanket we have dry out the shirt get our clothes dry but right now my biggest challenge is just to get one of these damn matches to light all right that's one down I've only got four matches left it's not much to work with and the outside of this box is wet and the striker is too there's an art to making a fire I've got everything I need the problem is everything's freaking wet I've got two matches left oh oh oh that's what I'm looking [Music] for the fire is going to be very helpful I plan on drawing out that blanket and that shirt hopefully cook some damn fish I'm seeing some movement in the net I think I got one actually there's a couple in there you see they're tangled up right there in the bottom of the net got four little fish in here it's not much they're borderline minnows but it's going to be some protein for us a little extra calories basically it's going to take that gnawing aching feeling out of our stomach and provide us with a little bit of internal fuel to stay warm tonight best part this beats raw muscles I'm liking that Matt good stuff huh beautiful this are are raw muscles dude really come on I was saying to myself too when I was making this fire it's like dude if you catch fish and I don't get this fire going I was not really in the mood for sushi man were there a lot more of these these where these came from you know I definitely saw more and I mean I I caught these in like a half an hour so if I reset the Trap so my guess is by by morning there's going to be a lot more in there you know I I got to tell you I really love Wicky UPS it sure is nice being totally enclosed with the fire warming us up yeah no doubt man this is light years ahead of last night that's for sure I actually lived in one like this not much bigger than this for 3 years three years yeah man that's a long time to live in a thing like this bro yeah dude how do you have a girl come over and hang out I guess it takes a certain kind of individual to appreciate it oh man as the sun rises over the Pacific Northwest Joe sets off on his own in search of the Trapper that left the Trap and some litter in the area he hopes to pick up a trail and follow it back to civilization I'm quite sure Matt has his own opinions about what I should be doing right now but I'm doing what I'm going to do to get us out of here I'm going tracking man if somebody walked in they walked out so what I'm looking for are what's called a sport trap that's just a technical term for a footprint without that you're basically following nothing let me see here I'd love to find the guy's tracks and put the Trap there but I'm not very picky right now anybody's tracks is what I'm looking for all right look at this right here without a doubt that was man-made pretty fresh I have identified a footprint is it the guy that left the traps I have no clue there's no doubt the guy stepped right here pushed this dead log out of the way I finally found something and I'm working the trail right now while Joe pursues his Target Matt works to improve their comfort in the cold and damp climate it's a shi horn this is definitely not an elf bugling I hear a fog horn and I'm high tilling it out to the rim to see the ship I grab the red blanket because at least I'll have something to wave out in the wind over here hello over here it must have been way off in the distance or just curved around the point and I might have just missed it that was close there's definitely something out there I've been tracking this individual for quite a ways and the more I'm following this person's tracks the closer I'm getting to the coastline and that's not where I want to be going we've got a very well worn out Trail right here you can see it goes all the way down here to this Rock Beach low tide you can get a boat in here and you're gone he came in by boat boat and left by boat that's not going to help Matt I at all this is not where I wanted to end up it is what it is there's definitely signs that this is an active location Joe's found a trail and I heard this boat horn putting all that together and the steel trap that tells us somebody's probably going to come back here at some point there are people in and out of this area so you made a bomber shelter I would vote to just hunker down right here I like the hunker down scenario I know you do we're in a good spot we got some resources around here so to move would be counterintuitive I left the fish trap up overnight so hopefully there'll be some fish in there I did see some greens not too far back there why don't I go see if I can grab some of them I like that I'm hungry yeah okay take a look over here this plant right here is called a daisy plant it's got a little white flower that looks like a daisy great flavor it's almost a sweet and sour I mean if this was back home I'd be putting this on my salad I'm finding a lot of good stuff here if Matt comes back with some fish we're going to have a really nice meal perfect man my first thought is did we leave a little bit of fish in there did a bear come in and just start pulling it apart it's like this log fell down inside the shelter and it's like the rain came through and took out the fire fortunately with the wiki up design it's got very steep walls this was a lean to be completely flat but I've got one match left one match that's it all right here we go Matt come on baby how you doing in there buddy good man okay that's what I'm looking for right there start to see a little smoke you're seing a lot of smoke nice one all right well we should probably make sure we don't let this fire go out huh no Matt this bull kelp is really cool yeah you wouldn't think that you could heat with this yeah it seems like all fleshy materials you can boil water just takes a little bit longer those fish are coming along nicely Yeah by tomorrow morning these will be almost DED out starting to feel homey here that's got a great flavor mat oh yeah definitely sleep like a baby tonight man hey Matt do we have any more of that sod cut uh no negative get some more couple little spots I think the rain is washed away that I'd like to fill sounds good one here one here Joe there somebody over here what hello hey who what do you see somebody in an orange vest hey man it looks like he's got the yellow flag you're kidding me the rules of survival should be used as a guideline nature is dynamic and in constant change the more experience you have the more you can bend those rules to help your situation if you think in a survival situation you're not going to have a few disappointments think again it's what you do with those disappointments that's going to weigh heavily on whether you live or you die you the guy that left the traps I am we figured someone was going to come back sooner or later hey well I got a boat down there we'll take it man let's head out
