[Music] southern georgia dominated by wetlands a very hostile environment every little thing here is trying to take you out of the game the dark waters provide cover to the most deadly predator of them all the american alligator there's an enormous amount of alligators out here and they can get up to 12 feet long over 300 pounds that means really big teeth [Music] this guy got himself in a bad spot that's putting it mildly hey i think it's got the crack right here here hole really yeah he ramps up really hard this john boat would have been our best asset unfortunately there's a hole in the bow so now we're stuck in alligator infested waters i've got a vest let's see we have in this thing it's first aid kit it's cotton ah we've got a feral rod all right so we don't have to spin up a fire again we definitely got some some supplies to work with but the main thing is just getting out of the water yeah give me a minute dude i want to go make something i'll be right back okay what you need to do is to split this into uh four quadrants one like that separate this one like that now we have a way not only to maybe gig a frog or a snapping turtle but we also have force protection for an alligator hey matt any sign of dry ground haven't seen anything i've got us a little force protection frog gigger nice well without seeing any high ground i'd say we just head in the path of least resistance yeah i'd have to agree he's moving oh look at that we're kind of exposed here because we can't really move out very fast matt let's we're going back yeah alligators are basically dinosaurs they haven't changed in millions of years and they're extremely powerful one of these things gets a hold of you even a small one and it will drag you underwater and do what's called a death roll come on come on come on it'll roll you over and over and over until you drown so you're dead any way you look at it i wonder if we can get up on this grass and make some headway wow this stuff is terrible how is it right there it is joe he's down to his neck and i'm trying to pull him out and it's it's basically like trying to get somebody out of a sheet of ice it just keeps crumbling as you're moving along this is really really dicey this is a really unstable ground get up yeah that's this is something i've never initially when you get on this stuff it's actually pretty fun but the reality is it's a lot of work walking over it but the pine forest has all the resources you need i mean i like it right here kind of had an idea for just building a simple ramada here if you got the shelter taken care of why don't i see if i can round up some stuff for a fire that would be great i think i can use these palmetto bushes right here yeah done deal okay i'll meet you back here all right see you in a bit [Music] these saplings growing nice tall and straight these are great for building so what i'm doing is i'm just going to cut it down to more of a sharper point so it'll stick into the ground really nicely now i don't need the full length of this so i'm going to go ahead and cut it provide a couple sections so i'm looking at the shelter trying to figure out how to make this without any cordage they're going to allow the tree to bend at a sharp angle at a 90 degree angle without breaking what i want to do is go just a little past halfway and i want each bend to fall so it falls just on the inside of the next stick right there and with downward weight it's still going to be solid putting together sort of this folded origami structure just seemed appropriate for the spot there's lots of saplings to work with could plant them in there and fold them in a way that just sort of spirals around and creates this beautiful ramada and the soft palmetto all around here is going to be great roofing material you can spread that out over these gaps really nicely dude that's nice he whipped that together quick yeah didn't take too long got some stuff to make a fire here some fat lighter take a sniff of that that's got a lot of sapping so i'm gonna get to work on a fire cool [Music] oh yeah this stuff is great because it's a nice type of river cane it's like any type of a bamboo family hollow stems so it creates some rigidity that one's actually too stiff for an outlander could make a throwing spear out of it but i just think with the game birds my chances of actually hitting one would be slim but that might be the right diameter that i could make a blow gun with so we're out here in the southeast and this is a place where a lot of native american tribes use the blow gun so now that i've got the materials that they used i feel like i might as well go ahead and give it a shot birds are taunting me already this is looking good right now i've got enough binding in the center it's time to make the darts great thing about the darts is i can make it right out of the cane as well then i've got cotton in the kit and then i've got some some braided fishing line so i'm gonna use that and spin it around the back side you know i i might not succeed but it's a blow gun it's a cool thing to make yeah not too bad yeah i still hear him right out there [Music] it's pretty good shot but it looked like i just barely missed i bolted out thinking maybe i could grab it but they all took off so close so close but no go joe has established fire and sets off in search of some quick calories near the creek i look down and i see some movement in the water and there's a frog staring right at me i've got to bag this thing for us we need to replenish calories this is food for matt and i you know it may not look like a lot and it's really not for two guys but it's better than nothing i mean there's some protein here so matt i think will be real happy with me right now hey what's going on man what is that a blow gun i just couldn't get it to be very accurate because it was a little bit too short that is pretty amazing that you could actually make a freaking usable functional blow game i appreciate that i was thinking you'd just be upset with me for now no dude not at all not a frog force ain't much but looks good i think it feels like a stun you ready i'll take a [Music] league oh yeah ah that creek i was thinking it's very black so it's running out of the swamp so my idea is why don't we follow the creek out because if we do that it's not going to take us back into the swamp it's going to take us out of it right i'm all down for a creek leading away from the swan now for someone in a situation you got to go with what you have and right now the only thing we have is a stream hopefully it'll lead either to a larger body of water or to civilization it really sucks we can't drink that stuff yeah looks tasty there's fresh tracks on it too yeah dude and they're heading in this direction look come here real quick matt i think we should go this way all right i'm game all right let's see what's up there you got a road i know it has better
