are you crying your eyes see you later I can't believe how cheap it is I feel like they've made a mistake is that true Hello everybody welcome back to the channel my name is Alan this is my life in Taiwan and welcome to J dash where yes you have read the title correctly today is my first time in 16 years going under the knife that's it wow don't worry it's not lifethreatening but yes today we are putting taiwan's National Health Insurance system to the test I am feeling pretty nervous seeing how well they can look after me with this minor surgery I'll get into more details of what it is later but first let's get inside register for the surgery and then maybe get some hospital food p and have a chat about what's actually going to happen today this is the building where William came when he was born and he had uh septicemia blood poisoning and hang Dan hang Dan Inu say some jice forget what is hang but anyway that's where they say Williams [Music] life okay okay okay okay okay so the first update of many that are probably going to be in this video we have found the building where the surgery is going to take place and we've been into register but the girl told me we don't actually need to register they've got my cell phone so actually we can just wait around have a normal day do some work and then wait for their phone call which should be coming in the next couple of hours or so but the good news is as you can see on my Hospital Report Form I don't have to starve myself for this surgery I can eat before surgery so it's time to get inside get some hospital food because I'm looking forward to putting it to the test and comparing it to UK hospital food which is notoriously terrible but I've been reading some good Google reviews on China Medical University Hospital's food so we can get inside put the hospital food to the test and then maybe we can have a little bit more of a chat about what's wrong with me why I need the surgery and why you guys shouldn't be worried too much about my health [Music] okay so I have no idea really what is going on but they told me because it's somebody's birthday the canteen is closed so these bang outside the restaurants are the only options okay okay so after that little bit of Halo at the hospital canteen we eventually asked permission if we can eat in the public area so we found this little waiting area with air conditioning to get my healthy hospital food bendang eating starting with this rather healthy [ __ ] tiang very importantly it's still hot I was a little bit worried because of the location they were selling them from they were going to be cold but this one is still piping hot and for my second course in this Exquisite Hospital restaurant experience we've got a t Dan which actually looks a little bit more interesting there's a couple of beans mushrooms full of protein nice and healthy so good it's like an omelet in a cup so far so good the tend Dan certainly didn't let me down and so far this experience is comparing much better than an English Hospital would be but the star of the show has to be this huge bendang with this huge piece of fried chicken with a sweet and sour sauce topped with Tangerine to be honest is better than most bendang shops I've been to outside of a hospital usually as I say in England hospital food is the lowest of the low but uh here in Taiwan it seems like they put a lot more effort into their hospital food wow just look how juicy and thick that chicken meat looks that looks absolutely delicious I'm going to get sick more often I'm going to come to the hospital every day that is really good okay so time for me to sit back relax and get my B finished then we'll go get a drink and as friends do over a cup of coffee or tea we'll have a chat about what's wrong with me and why I need this surgery okay so while we're waiting for the call from the operating room we've come to take the rest in a local coffee shop but as I mentioned earlier I'm sure a lot of you are dying to know what the surgery is actually for I've been getting some health checks recently on a couple of symptoms that have been showing up with my nervous system this video is not related to any serious problems but a few weeks ago I was recommended to have a CT scan on my brain to see if I can find any problems and the doctor found a small tumor not inside my brain but on the outside of my skull underneath the skin known as a lipoma a lipoma is a benign tumor that could become cancerous probably wouldn't but the location of the lipoma is right on the top of my head right in my hairline and while editing a few videos recently I've noticed that it's started to become more apparent more evident probably because my hairline is going further and further back across my head so while the doctor explained that it probably won't cause me any problems in future you think you me the option of having it removed so I took the option of having it removed and that's what we're doing today but I thought seeing as I'm having a surgery I would share this part of my life in Taiwan with you guys it's the name of my channel I share the good with the bad so yeah hopefully everything goes well all we need to do now I sit back enjoy my drink and wait for the phone call from the operating [Music] theater okay so it's been a couple of hours I've been working in the coffee shop waiting for that phone call to come telling me when the surgery can start very unnerving just sitting and waiting for the surgery to commence and it made me think a little bit about that I haven't actually shared with you guys how I feel about having surgery in a foreign country and I am petrified I've actually come outside to film this little park because I don't want my Taiwanese friend who's come with me to help me translate and film everything to get worried and see me and see me and see me nervous like this I'm being pretty stoic and stiff uper lipped as a British person should be about the whole thing telling her I'm not worried but it is going to be worrying when I get in there not really knowing what happens not really knowing the procedure and not knowing whether or not my friend can come in to translate for me so surgery in my home country of England would be nerve-wracking enough but doing it in another country is putting so much trust into that system and so much trust into the doctors I'm sure everything is going to be fine it's not a major surgery I'm not having a kidney replaced or a heart transplant or brain surgery but it's just a little bit uh frightening so I thought it's best for me to share that feeling with you you guys as opposed to just pretending that everything is okay and that I'm really not worried I am a little bit worried I'll be so happy when it's over not to mention the fact that William is coming next week oh is it him that's him that's him and he's going to see me with a bandage or a scar or stitches on my head so he's going to be worried too I haven't told him anything about this surgery yet so um lots to think about lots to digest and process mentally we love CMU I'm hoping that I'm still going to say that when this is all finished and everything gets done but uh yeah I hope you don't mind me sharing a little bit of a personal feeling out here getting old sucks being unhealthy really sucks I'm so grateful for my uh General good health only when something like this happens that you start to think about other people that are less fortunate than you anyway let's go back to Coffee let's wait for that phone [Music] call okay G byee right yo the waiting is over we were just in Louisa coffee when we got a phone call from the hospital inviting us in to start the process of the surgery so we're heading back into the leafu building and uh yeah the nerves are starting to build a little bit now I've been distancing myself a little bit from it now it's time and yeah let's see how much of this procedure I can capture on camera for you guys so yeah thanks for coming with me it's an honor to have you accompany me through this rather difficult procedure that should be quite simple but hopefully uh I'll be able to show you as much of it as possible fifth floor operating theater here we come [Music] cook Alan Mony dokie let's get [Music] naked oh my God I am feeling pretty nervous probably the most nerve-wracking thing is that my is going to pop out of this thing why did you keep scratching I feel like it's going to pop out no it's so close and you have to make it tight someone's probably die blaring it yeah what you thinking this is where I just put all my trust into the what if if he's having a bad day if he had to argument with his wife last night or he got drunk or has a hangover I just have to trust that he's in good condition wish she could are you [Music] c yeah a little bit let me check you yeah we need to check it's the right thing we're not going to cut off my leg or cut off my [Laughter] balls five star hotel in the spa waiting for my massage so as you may be able to sense I was doing my best to hide my nervous feelings behind the life sense of humor joking and being silly but it wasn't until the nurse came in and asked me to sign the medical disclaimer that things really started to ramp up in seriousness but that didn't stop the YouTuber and me trying to get permission to film the surgery [Music] okay and I actually decided not to ask the surgeon and bother his important job but soon enough the nurse came to take me to the operating theater so I said my goodbyes to my friend bye see you later and was rather dramatically asked to sit in a wheelchair to be taken off to the operating room and it's here that filming had to stop but through the Wonder of my memory and the advancement of AI image creation I will tell the story here in voiceover as the nurse wheeled me into an elevator and took me to another floor before Wheeling me gently into the operating theater where I was asked to step out of the wheelchair and onto the operating table and this is where for some reason AI thinks I got dressed into a full suit tire and I was surprised by how serious the operating theater was I had expected this small surgery to take place in a normal Ward just behind a curtain but this was the real deal huge surgical lights surgical tools all laid out next to the bed and of course several nurses preparing everything for the surgeon's arrival and after waiting on the bed for a good few minutes the surgeon arrived and immediately came to expect what was to be done and interestingly seems to be accompanied by a Mexican intern who was taking notes and answering the doctor's questions in a mixx of of English and Chinese now I won't get into the full details of the procedure but first I think I was covered with iodine then the area around the lipoma was shaved then the surgeon told me he was about to inject the anesthetic which for some reason AI thought he injected into my stomach but yes he actually injected it into my head and that was basically the last thing I felt other than a little tugging on my skin here and there I didn't even feel it when the nurses replace my clothes with the Union Jack Flag and woming caped AI seems to think I was wearing until I overheard the doctor asking his Mexican intern in your country do you show the sample to the patients to which I blurted out I really want to see and the doctor obliged by showing me a shiny white lump to which I inexplicably declared looks like one of my testicles and the doctor pulled a face of pity and said I hope your testicles are bigger than this before disappearing without so much as a goodbye the whole surgery had taken about 45 minutes and of course the surgeon who I later found out was one of the top surgeons in Taiwan had performed the surgery excellently leaving me with a seven stitches and absolutely no no pain at all and I was then put back in the wheelchair and wheeled back to my friend where the filming can start once again you're finished and yes I did feel really emotional which I'll explain more in detail later but basically being so helpless and also so well- looked after it caught up with me and I was fighting the urge not to hug the nurse and thank him and all the other staff for taking such good care of me and perhaps a little part of me was thinking back to 11 years ago when they had done the same thing for William in the very same building but anyway back to the video and time to see how much this perfectly performed surgery was going to cost me using taiwan's national health insurance system she by Jo for a surgery to remove life from my head can't believe how cheap it is I feel like they've made a mistake is that true no it's no mistakes I like this part they crossed out this and just rode this we can go get some nice dinner after get medicine let's get medicine H okay and just like that my first time going under the knife here in Taiwan is over and I have to say I feel incredibly emotional incredibly moved but also incredibly lucky to live in this country where not only is medical treatment cheap and affordable but also at The Cutting Edge the Forefront of international medicine where I really didn't have to feel as nervous as I did before going into such a minor surgery as I said earlier chinen Zang was completely professional made me feel like there was not think it's all to worry about once I entered that surgery room and all of the nurses and other supporting staff that helped me I don't know what else to say other than a huge thank you for making me feel as um safe and well looked after is the probably the only way I can really describe it as simply as possible without crying here in the street I've got to wear this badge of honor for the next few weeks while William is here we're going to have to figure out a hat situation but that's just a small price to pay in order to be safe and healthy and well- looked after here in Taiwan thanks to Annie my friend who helped me and gave up her time I'm sure she won't want me to mention her in the video but without to friends like that it's um uh yeah life is difficult without Taiwanese friends so if you're coming to Taiwan to live here make sure you get yourself as many toes friends as possible that's my advice I think that's enough for this video thanks for watching to the very end of it I'll keep you updated with any progression or change of symptoms but hopefully everything is huny Dory from now on there will be another medical video coming pretty soon once I find out exactly what's wrong with me but um yeah everything else is pretty hunky dory and as I said just so happy and grateful to live in Taiwan where the medical system is so cheap affordable safe and downright amazing thanks for watching as for now and as always stay safe look after each other and I'll see you next time in my life peace [Music] bye-bye look who's here William is here a little sneak peek for anybody watching to the very very end of the video today is my chance to go and get my stitches taken out so I've got my number one caring assistant to come and help me hav't I yes okay and uh how are you enjoying Taiwan so far great it's awesome I'm having so much fun filming a lots of videos with William so if you've watched the very end of the video this is your little surprise don't tell anybody that this is at the end of the video right okay thanks for watching okay thanks for watching guys as for as always I'll see you next time M peace bye-bye he
