Hello, everyone. Welcome back to the Pen Bar Review Room I'm the King of Pigs What we're going to talk about today In principle I hope you never have to use it But this is another Very useful computer trick when necessary Reinstall the system In this video I'll start from the beginning Hands on teaching everyone How to reinstall Windows OS for our laptop Although there are already a lot of reinstallation tutorials on B site But after reading some of them, I realized Most of them are for desktops Laptops may require a few extra steps to complete And Everyone has their own unique habits So for this video, we're going to focus on laptops. We'll use Windows 11 as an example. Let's talk about how to reinstall a system Since this is a tutorial program I'm going to be a bit long winded I'm going to be a little bit more verbose I want to show you as many details as possible. So that you can get your computer back to normal as soon as possible I'm going to break up the video into sections in the form of a "table of contents". You can jump to the corresponding markers according to your needs. Okay, so let's get started. First, let's address the first question. When do you need to reinstall? When I was new to laptops At that time Almost every new computer had to be reinstalled. In the old days when pirated systems were common When people didn't have a strong sense of legitimacy In order to reduce the cost of selling laptops Many of them used DOS system Or Linus system from the factory and sell it directly on the shelves At this time the laptop is equivalent to no system In a brick and mortar store Unboxing on the spot Installing systems on the spot has become a common occurrence And then Windows 8.1 became popular Microsoft lowered the price of pre-installed systems for OEMs. OEMs considered that the factory pre-installed the system, Office and other software Users can start using them right away It's more convenient Gradually, they also began to pre-install Windows In general Pre-installed systems are usually ready to use. Although nowadays some manufacturers are not very "ethical" Bundle the pre-installed system with a bunch of "useless software" Such as browsers, third-party anti-virus software, etc. But in fact, you can uninstall them yourself when you get it. It won't affect the normal use So usually I would recommend you to reinstall your system I would recommend you to reinstall your system First The system function is seriously abnormal, can not be repaired There will be a blue screen, black screen, crash, lagging Or directly no way to normal boot Second After installing the application software, the machine reports errors No matter how to uninstall and reinstall the software can not run normally Thirdly Too much software cluttering up the system The hard disk is full. No matter how much you clean up, you can't make room. I've moved the important stuff. There's still a lot of stuff I don't know what it is. Taking up space on your computer's hard drive. I want to clean up all of them at once Fourthly. The computer has been used for too long Want to upgrade to a new version of the system Experience the new interface, new features Fifth My friend's computer broke down. Or a female classmate's computer is out of order Ask for your help to re-install it In addition to the above mentioned cases I think all other cases You don't need to reinstall the computer There's no need to take the risk of damaging your computer. Okay, now that you've gotten this far. That means you're experiencing one of the problems mentioned above. You're ready to reinstall. Well, I'll have to quiz you. What's the first step in reinstalling a system? My answer is - backup important files Because reinstalling a system is similar to flashing a cell phone It's a risky operation Since it is risky The way to minimize the risk Is to transfer the important files from your computer in advance You can prepare a larger hard disk Put your important photos, videos, documents, chat records and other data backed up Copy it out. This way, even if the computer reinstallation breaks. Your data is still intact. If you don't know what's important on your computer. Imagine this. If you lost your computer right now. What are the first things you think of? I think this Should help you determine the importance of your data After you've backed up all your data Next, we have to move on to step two. Choosing a reinstallation plan. I'd like to introduce a special program first. Generally, this function is only available for laptops. It's rare to see it on desktops. Some laptops come with an official recovery image. You can use their system-level factory reset function to achieve the same result as "clear the hard disk and reinstall using the image". You can do the same thing as "Empty the hard disk and reinstall using the image". Unfortunately, not many manufacturers have this feature. As far as I know. Currently only Asus, MSI, Dell (Alien) and some of Blue Sky's machines will come with this option Let's take this Alienware m18 and Gunmetal 7 Ultra as an example The m18 can be accessed by pressing F12 after pressing the boot button. Find the "SupportAssist OS Recovery" option here. Click to enter After a few moments of waiting It will enter the system recovery assistant that comes with it. At the bottom right corner, you can find the Remake tab Make sure you have backed up all the important files on your computer. Click on Start Reset In this menu You can select "Reset to Factory Settings" Click next It will ask you again if you need to backup You can choose according to your needs Then confirm your choice Click Next The machine will do a factory reset directly As long as you follow our options No need to do additional operations It takes less than 5 minutes. It'll be like a new computer you just bought. It'll just clear out everything. Back to the way it was when you first got it. Then you can follow the on-screen instructions to initialize it. During the networking process. Windows 11 will usually ask you to force a network connection To sign in to your Microsoft account. But domestic networks connect to Microsoft's potato servers It's slow and unstable. That's why I'm suggesting that you skip the Internet connection. So, it's best to disconnect your computer from the network first. When you get to the networking step. You can press Shift+F10 Use your mouse to select the CMD box that pops up. Type oobe Bypassnro Press enter. The computer will reboot Re-enter the initialization screen After that, in the networking step, there will be an additional option of "I don't have internet" option Click on this item to skip the whole thing. At this point the computer is already installed Follow the steps to complete the initialization you will be able to use the program as normal The functions are not affected in any way The same applies to ROG's Gunslinger 7. All you need to do is hold down the Shift key on the system page and click Reboot. Go to the Advanced Recovery screen Click on "Troubleshooting Then click on "ASUS WinRE Recovery to enter the recovery interface Then select the recovery system Click "Yes Recovery will be completed within 5 minutes Enter the initialization interface Follow the same steps to complete the initialization You can use it normally Functions are not affected When you see this, some students will ask Since reinstalling the system is so simple Why do we still have to go through the trouble of coming up with such a long video tutorial? This is not two minutes to make things clear Although this "OS Factory Recovery" function is useful But it also has a lot of drawbacks The first one is Except for these few vendors who have built-in recovery image Other manufacturers don't have this feature at the moment It's nothing like the system reset that comes with Windows. It is equivalent to a third-party system by extracting the pre-installed Windows image and overwriting it with a new one. Windows reset is a process of erasing and correcting errors on a currently installed On a currently installed system, it wipes and corrects errors. The essence is different The corresponding effect is also different The second scenario is If the original recovery partition has been corrupted This function is disabled You can only reinstall the system in the normal way. There is no way to do a system reinstallation and restore through this function. If the above methods don't work for you At this point, we will enter the main movie Disk reinstallation First of all, before you plan to reinstall Please buy a USB flash drive The minimum capacity is 8GB. Usually, we recommend 16GB or 32GB. Of course, you can buy a bigger one. We will then make this USB flash drive into a system installer. You can think of it this way. It's kind of like the system installation CDs of long ago. Or... A floppy disk. Only the storage medium of the system disk has been changed to a USB flash drive. The speed of USB flash drive is faster than CD-ROM. So the speed of your system installation will depend on the speed of your USB flash drive. So it's recommended to buy a USB3.0 or above. Of course, if you have a USB 2.0 disk in hand. It's not impossible to use it. It's just a little slower. It doesn't affect the function, don't worry. Actually, there are a lot of tutorials on the B site. There are a lot of tutorials on B-site that will teach you how to reinstall your system without a USB flash drive. I've done some research. This method usually involves dividing the free capacity of the existing hard disk into a partition. To install a PE system Then boot the PE system from this partition To reinstall the system on the original partition That's a good idea. But I've always felt that a reinstallation isn't a complete reinstallation without a disk. Not clean enough. "Not good enough." So I still suggest We use a USB flash drive to reinstall After the flash drive is ready We can make a boot disk Here I usually have two main cases The first is the official installation tool to create a USB flash drive The second is a third-party USB flash drive boot tool to burn the disk Maybe some viewers here will say I usually use a WinPE USB flash drive for reinstallation. It's much more convenient than making an image Moreover, running DiskGenius in PE can quickly format the hard disk. The image can also be installed directly by the installer, which is more convenient. And there are some special features in PE that are very useful. Yes, that's true. PE is the most widely used installation tool. It's been around since Windows XP. But because it's been around long enough. PE has a lot of drawbacks. For example. Some PEs install systems with bundled adware. It will alter the homepage of the browser and so on. That's a real bummer. Since I've taught you to reinstall your system I have to make sure that the system you install Is exactly the same as the image package provided by Microsoft. So, I'm going to recommend a few options that I personally use. It's not right or wrong. It's all a matter of personal habits and preferences So just follow your own ideas The first option is to use the official Windows 11 image maker. This is the most official and formal program As long as you use this method to create a USB flash drive Basically, it's guaranteed to be 100% problem-free First of all, go to the Microsoft software download center In this page Click to select the system version you need Here we take Windows 11 for example On this page You can click Download Now in the "Create Windows 11 installation" section You will get a boot disk creation tool Plug the USB flash drive into your computer If your computer is no longer working You can use another working computer to create the USB flash drive. The process is very simple and even "no-brainer". Click Next Next In this section, select the USB flash drive Select the disk drive that corresponds to the one you plugged in. Note that it is best to insert only the disk you want to create. Unplug any other disks that are not relevant The next step is to format all the contents of your USB flash drive. After confirming It will start the automated process of making a bootable USB flash drive. It's easy, right? But then comes the pain. The utility is only a few megabytes long. But as we all know. A full Windows install can be 4 or 5 gigabytes. So it has to download the image for you on the spot. Notice the "it won't affect your normal use of the computer" warning? Which means it... It doesn't take up much internet speed. So the download is really, really slow. It usually takes an hour or more to get it ready. Really, a gigabit broadband line feels like a 10-megabit pipe. In addition to the first official method of creating a boot disk. I personally recommend using a third-party tool to create a bootable USB flash drive. Commonly used software I personally recommend Rufus and Ventoy This software is a windows linus system open source boot disk creation tool Just like the description of its official website Small but complete A 1.4MB software can directly burn the system image to a USB flash disk The same effect as the official tool At this point, we need to prepare another thing called "system image". Where to download this image? Here I recommend a website called next i tell you. The predecessor of this site is msdn i tell you It is one of the more well-known mirror download sites Here you can easily find a variety of system and software images After simply registering and logging in You can find Windows 11 mirrors here. In addition to the recommended version You can also find the previous version below. Choose whichever one you want If you don't know what version you want to install I would suggest Go back one version up from the latest version There may still be some bugs in the latest version The latest version may still have some bugs That's why the last version is often the most reliable one. So if you have to ask me Which system to install Or Can I install my old system on my new computer this way? There's a very honest way to tell What version of drivers does your computer have? There is an easy way to confirm this You can go to your laptop's website first Check what version of driver is available for this model of machine Usually Newer computers only have drivers for Windows 11 Older computers may have drivers for Windows 8.1, Windows 10 and 11. Older ones may still support Windows 7 Systems are usually backwards compatible Which means Older computers can install newer systems. But a new computer with an old system It may not be able to use all the functions properly From my personal habits I would recommend that if you can install Windows 11 I would try to install Windows 11 Currently, from the compatibility point of view Windows 11 is basically the same as the previous system It doesn't have too many problems. And because of the Core processors after the 12th generation. Added the function of small and large cores And Windows 11 compatibility is relatively the best. So in principle I would recommend you to install Windows 11 some more It's less likely to have performance problems. Of course, if you have a special job If your job is special, you have some special requirements for the system. You can install the old system. But the driver adaptation may only be the general version Some functions may not work properly. You have to consider this point yourself Then the system version Generally speaking, there are two types of Microsoft images For C and for B Version C systems can usually be installed with Home Edition and Professional Edition. The B version of the system can be installed Education Edition, Enterprise Edition, Professional Edition, and Professional Workstation Edition. If there is no special need I suggest you choose the Home Edition Currently, Home Edition can meet the needs of most users. Even without group policy tools You can stop system updates by modifying the registry. Turn off Windows Defender, etc. And Our laptops nowadays usually include a copy of the activation serial number of the home edition system It's like you've already paid for the system. The activation code for the system stays tied to your motherboard at all times After reinstalling your system. The machine will read your activation code and activate the system for you. If you install another version It's not the right one. There's no way to activate it. Windows is not free. From the standpoint of supporting the original... So you'll have to buy a new copy of the system. The next step is to download the image We're going to go with Windows 11 Consumer. Look at the download speed of this image. It's true that modern tools are more reliable. It took 5 minutes to download. Then we run the Rufus tool in administrator mode. Choose your USB flash drive as the device. Select the image file as the boot type. Click on the Select button on the right Find the image you just downloaded The partition type will be GPT by default Keep the target system type as UEFI by default. Both of these options are supported by default on newer laptops. The following formatting options Just leave it as default. Note that the official Microsoft tools above And this rufus tool will format the flash drive. Empty the USB drive of all data So before you make a system disk Please also remember to save the important files in the USB flash drive Then click start The options that pop up here I suggest is the default Or you can do it according to your needs Then confirm. Wait for a few moments. A system disk is ready After unplugging the flash drive and plugging it back in There should be these files on the flash drive If you get an error in the middle of the process. Then you can change the image Or change the interface or the flash drive and try again. At this time, plug in the USB flash drive. Take this Lenovo Rescuer R9000X for example. Press F2 to enter the laptop's BIOS Click on "More Settings" Enter the advanced management interface Press F9 to restore the factory settings. Set the USB flash drive as the first boot item in the BOOT directory. Then press F10 to save and reboot Then you can boot the USB flash drive. Of course you can. You can also press F12 while booting up to enter the advanced boot options In this screen, you can select the USB disk to boot You can also achieve the same effect In addition to the above mentioned "Rufus" Ventoy is another tool that my colleague gave me. It works in a similar way First create a boot directory for the USB flash drive But the difference is It can store multiple system images on the USB flash drive and then load them after booting So you don't have to reburn the disk every time you use an image. Download this program and unzip it Start "Ventoy to Disk" as administrator. Then click "Install" here It will prompt you to format After clicking OK on both sides It will automatically generate a USB flash drive bootloader for you. When it's done You can find the corresponding disk drive in your computer. Then you can put the image you need on this disk. and then eject Plug the flash drive into your computer Follow the same steps as above Select the USB flash drive to boot up Some computers may prompt you during bootup to Your computer's security policy does not allow you to boot this USB flash drive. At this point you can choose to find the Secure boot option in the BIOS. Turn it off. This will allow you to boot without any problems. After booting, we'll move on to the installation step. Once you're on this page. You can leave the options as default. Click on the next page. Click on "Install Now". Select the system version you want to install here As mentioned above If you want to activate it directly Then choose the Home Edition. Next, check "Accept Software License Terms". Click on "Next". Here it will prompt you It will prompt you which upgrade to install. Select "Customize" This will take you to the disk selection page. It will ask you "Where do you want to install Windows?" If you have the system installed in your computer You will see a screen like this Drive 0 plus several different partitions 1234 They're labeled as such. System partition, MSR partition (reserved), primary partition, recovery partition. I'll have a post-processor put the purpose of the partitions on the screen. If you are interested, you can refer to it. Attention. These partitions are necessary for the system to function properly. If you don't intend to clear them all Please do not tweak it If you need to split the disk Or keep other directories in your hard disk such as the contents of the D drive You can use the capacity to determine which is the C drive Then format the corresponding "primary partition" of C drive Then you can choose to install to the C drive This way, the contents of other disks such as D and E will be preserved. Here My personal suggestion is If you only have one hard drive It's best to empty the entire drive Re-partition it This will solve most of the bugs caused by the system installation Moreover, nowadays everyone is using solid state drives Basically, you don't need to follow the old mechanical disk "multiple partitions are needed, put as much software as possible on the D drive". So I usually just roughly delete all the partitions on the corresponding drive. Because I've backed up all my data. So don't be afraid. Then just click Next The system will automatically repartition your system And install the system in the "primary" partition. Next, wait for it to automatically read the entries. Reboot several times And then you're back to the familiar interface. Then, you can follow the on-screen instructions to initialize. After a long, long, long, long, long, long, long, long, long, long, long, long, long, long, long, long, long, long, long. After many reboots. You're finally able to get to the desktop. If it's resetting the system Then it's over at this step But if you're reinstalling a laptop It's only 50% done at this point. You'll notice that during the initialization process, the screen frame rate is very low. Some machines even have touchpads that don't work, no networking, no sound. The next step is what I think is the most important. I think it's the most important step that many tutorials don't teach you. And it's an essential step in the system reinstallation process. That is to install the driver While it already seems like a very simple thing to do Even in the new Windows 10 11 operating system. All you have to do is connect to the Internet And turn on windows auto update And it's going to run the drivers for you. The question marks in the device manager will disappear one by one. But from my personal experience of using it for so long This is not the best way What Microsoft automatically installs for you Usually from their database. According to the "recognized hardware ID" of your hardware Provides the corresponding driver Since it is only a generic version It is not the version that your computer OEM has actually verified according to your computer. So it basically only "works" But it may be "missing". And some special parts It may not recognize them at all. Or even worse. Like this R9000X. After installing the system by default There is no wireless card driver integrated into the system It can't plug in the cable directly It can't connect to the Internet. Naturally, it can't use this automatic update Today, I'll give you a more reliable solution. Usually our laptop brand website will provide the driver for the corresponding model. So the best way is Download the drivers from the website in advance Install them one by one Let's use the Savior R9000x as an example here First go to the Lenovo driver download site Find the driver page for R9000X Download the drivers for the corresponding components here I customarily categorize the drivers we need to install into several categories "Chipset", "Sound", "Display". "NIC-related", "Peripheral-related", and "Software-related". One special item is "BIOS". If there are no special circumstances There is no need to download the BIOS update. Remember. There are no additional requirements for the installation order on this computer. My personal practice is to install "chipset related" drivers first and then install the other drivers. After installation, it is best to reboot when prompted. The R9000X has fewer components. If there are more functions. The number of drivers is usually higher. It's best to download them all as a package Install them one by one. It's a bit of a hassle. But it's the safest and most secure way. Here we also demonstrated the installation of the m18 driver. This high-end gaming laptop has many special features. So it may need to install more drivers The process is also a bit more complicated In addition, the control center software of each company usually provides the driver installation function. Most of the major drivers can also be installed through the control center But according to my experience This software's driver detection is not very comprehensive Some missing drivers may not be detected Reliability is not as high as downloading drivers from the official website After all the installation is completed We can open the device manager Check if there is a yellow exclamation mark If there is no yellow exclamation mark Or if all your common functions are normal Then the installation of the driver is basically finished Finally, the setup and activation steps If you follow the instructions above I'm installing a home version of the system. As long as it's connected to the Internet. Your computer should have been activated You can find it in "Settings" - "System" - "Activation" page But if you are installing another version of the system And the system doesn't come with a digital activation key you may need to activate it manually Windows comes with the command line "Slmgr", a Windows software license management tool. You can quickly set your version key via CMD. Activation key Or set the KMS server address Or activate it through a third-party KMS tool But in any case Please support the original Thank you for your support. In addition to the driver some necessary applications It's better to install them as well To avoid long nightmares Office software can consider WPS Or use Office tool Plus to install the Office suite. I personally recommend 360 Compressor International Edition. Pure and no ads But if you have a 360 fetish 7zip is also a good choice. Players that come with Windows don't work well PotPlayer is currently one of the most popular players It's more convenient There are a lot of other popular software, you are welcome to type it out in the pop-up or comment section. I won't go into details here. Okay, this is the end of the reinstallation tutorial. This is the end of this tutorial. If it helps you If it helps you, why don't you long press the like button to give us a one-click trifecta of support?
