my gear for climbing Mount Fuji Introduction to the Mount Fuji Routes There are four main routes to climb Mount Fuji Yoshida, Subashiri, Gotemba and Fujinomiya trails. Considering that the Yoshida trail is the most popular(crowded) one,
and it's more difficult to book a mountain hut. so I decided to take the Subashiri trail and booked the Miharashi-kan at Original 7th station (3200m) (Stayed in a hotel near Gotemba Station last night) I checked the weather this morning, it seems to be better a little bit so the rain won't be too heavy, but it will still be a heavy rain tomorrow I was thinking the hut I booked is at an altitude of 3200m According to the official estimated time,
it would takes 3 hours from the hut to the top so if I want to catch the sunrise tomorrow, I have to start climbing at 2:00 what I'm thinking is that if I started at 8:30 today and arrived at the hut before 12:00 I should just take another 3 hours going up then come down and stay at the mountain hut. will see. (I'm so nervous haha) (It takes about 1 hour by bus from Gotemba Station to Subashiri 5th Station) (You will see a shopping street when you get off the bus) (donate 1000 yen for appreciating trails maintenance) (Although it's a bit steep at the beginning, it feels good to be under the shades) ( \ You can see the top of the mountain! / ) (I keep encountering this day hiker haha) What's your name? My name is Lee Faming. We're almost at the 6th station. phew we're at the 6th station! looks like it's going to rain down there. This is Kongō-zue! that's the descent route of Subashiri trail aka sand running route seems quite difficult for me:) starting to be foggy That should be the Original 6th station. The official estimated time said it only takes half an hour
from 6th station to Original 6th station. I think I was a little nervous at the beginning, so I walked too fast. it was expected to take 60 minutes but I walked 45 minutes. I want to slow down now and see how long it takes to reach the Original 6th station. Walk in a comfortable pace. Don't be stressed. Otherwise, I'm afraid I'll get a headache or altitude sickness. 9:40 Original 6th station (I couldn’t help but be tempted and bought a bottle of Pocari for 400 yen) (Incredible. I can't believe I can buy a refreshing cold drink on the mountain!) Wow, never thought there would be a Sika Deer on Mount Fuji. It’s looking at me :D Cowabunga! I’m so happy that I can recognized the wild strawberry now! TOT there's more!!! The wind is getting stronger and cooler the 7th station It really takes about 30 minutes to get here if I take my time So if I follow the official estimated time it will take another 3.5 hours to reach the top from 7th station 10:25 7th station we can see the next hut over there. I'm at the Original 7th station now. No, I am at the 7th station. having an energy bar and rest for a while the altitude now is 3090m so we have climbed 1000m (at 7th station, I met Kobayashi-san who was about to go down the mountain
and shared spiritual food aka candy with each other) ok. I am ready to keep going It's 10:35 now I have took a break at 7th station so I should be fine with this pace (finally feeling less stressed). probably can reach the summit before 14:00. the section after 7th station is relatively flat 5 mins to go to Miharashi-kan! Now the wind has become a bit strong. 11:00. There are many people resting at the 7th station. I just asked her if I could leave my stuffs here because I want to climb to the top. She said no problem! the mountain hut I'm going to sleep tonight. now only me I left my clothes and some food here. It's quite heavy actually I'm so glad that I can store my luggage before checking in I rested inside the hut for about 10 minutes I felt a little bit cold when I came out😂 But I have warm clothes with me the girl at the hut told me that I should start heading back from the top at 16:00 at the latest because it will be dark and it may start to rain later Now it's 11:10, I think I will reach the top in around two hours Now I finally meet more people that is Yoshida descent route. This is the 8th station (600 yen for beer!) (Yoshida descent route goes [left] / Subashiri descent route goes [right]) Dang. I think I'll be so scared tomorrow the trail looks very slippery. some people are having fun gliding but just now when I stood and looked back, I felt terrible (I was so scared so I kept observing them😅) I hope I can run down like this tomorrow... Uh, what should I do? I really don’t like it😖 Ahhh someone just slipped and fell. QQ will definitely freak out tomorrow. Oh no, I keep saying cursed words (but well, I’ll cut it). I’m at the Original 8th Station Torii Rrrrrr the descent trail is just so scary that I really can't relax now 11:50 Original 8th station (you can still buy a Kongō-zue here) (The most popular mountain hut-Goraikokan!) This is Yoshida’s ascent route. I also take this route after the 8th station Now we are at the 9th station it started to rain I should put on my rain jacket It was just foggy earlier But now it's really raining 12:22. the 9th station The sun is out again after I putting on a rain jacket After the 9th station, the trail starts to be very steep very rocky People go through a lot of struggles here 12:45 The top of Mount Fuji (I don’t know why people are sleeping outside😰It’s super cold) (You can download the summit certificate) I heard that it's very lively up here, but wow. There is literally a street! (all kinds of hot food and cold drinks) even vending machines! Amazing (I have already bought dinner at the mountain hut,
so only bread for lunch is totally ok😬) ( The person chilling out there is Rory, so I had the opportunity to chat with him later) (and also met Seth later) (We didn’t buy a Kongō-zue, but we all got a piece of wood from the donation this morning. We're gonna have a stamp on it!) (that's how Kongō-zue works~~) (Shopping street at the top of the mountain) (Although it's still foggy, we decided to walk around the crater) (This section is slippery😂) (14:35. highest peak in Japan!) (We met Scott who took some cute photos for us!) (my sole is jumping hard as well:D) (15:30 start heading down) (Descent trail split after 8th station) (Subashiri descent trail is on the right)
(we found a rainbow and mushroom cloud before saying goodbye to each other) (keep heading to the Original 7th station) (I'm back to the hut!) (the wind is too noisy) It took me 1 hour down here from the top. now is 16:30 It doesn't rain anymore 500 yen for dinner, and it's curry! so goooood TOT (we want to wait for sunset) (8000 yen including sleeping bag, pillow, free toilet) (22:30. The sky is clear when I go to toilet) (fancy western toilet!) (2:30 heading up to the top for sunrise) but honestly I'm not sure if it's a good idea. I'm going to see how I feel. (I stop at the 8th station and revalue the weather situation, my feelings)
(Since we're on the east side of Mt.Fuji, we can just watch the sunrise from the hut if the weather is good) And I decide to turn back to the hut (5:00. I wonder if we can see the sunrise, but it's too foggy) (so cold outside><) 6:15. Ready to hike down Seems like there would be a heavy rain at 9:00 so no more sleep in😬 sun is coming out! Sand running section..! they have so much fun, while I feel so helpless. I keep watching how they walk/run. Alright. Let's do it. I can do it.
I love sand running, I love sand running. use the heel. I know how to do this. Basically I'm talking to myself and try to calm myself down :D And it works. I'm not so scared now Well, but this section looks endless loll more like a trail for off-road motorbike Found these gloves. I'll bring them down since this is descent trail. Can't believe they still have so much food + 4L tea!
They can literally sell sandwiches on the top😂 I take the same bus but different destination.
Getting off at Subashiri Sengen Shrine, then take another bus to Kawaguchiko I hope I can see Mt. Fuji from far away:') my sole is dead again. I already used superglue to fix it few times haha Anyway, after all, I love Subashiri trail. I had so much fun:)
