Hello! Welcome back to Plik Lhung Glong, a skincare review from a formulations perspective. This is the last video to the 2024 Sunscreen Review series. Thank you for joining us on this series. We've reviewed face and body sunscreens - so let's discuss sachet sunscreens today. As usual, we'll be measuring post application oiliness with the Sebumeter SM 815. Along with dissecting ingredients and marketing claims. Our mission is to find the best sachet sunscreens of 2024. This video isn't sponsored whatsoever. I'm here to help you find the best sunscreen. Ready? Let's go! Cute Press CI Lab Sensitive Ultra Mild Tone Up Sunscreen SPF50+ PA++++ 100% Mineral Sunscreen? This is about to get exciting... Its protection values have only been tested in vitro. It also claims to be a sunscreen that's perfect for all skin tones. That's a strong claim. Let's test it. 1/4 Teaspoon is the recommended amount for proper protection. As expected, there's a very clear whitecast. How can a 100% mineral sunscreen be "friendly to all skin tones?" We should stop lying to ourselves that mineral filters have no whitecast. They're made of insoluble white stones! There's no way you can make zinc oxide transparent. There's a time and place for everything - mineral filters are great for children and sensitive skin. But you need very light skin tones for these sunscreens to not look funny. It makes no sense to claim that mineral sunscreens suit all skin tones! You can't just overlook people with darker skin tones! Let's bring out the Sebumeter. We'll be testing out skin oiliness before application, one minute after application, and twenty minutes after application. Our volunteer has dry skin. Five minutes after application, her skin got a little less dry, then returned to initial dryness. My conclusion is this sunscreen suits people with light skin tones and combition or oily skin. What else does this sunscreen have? Hmmm.. Nothing jumps out in particular. But I think the intention was to create a truly sensitive skin-friendly sunscreen. The simpler the formula, the lower the risk. C for innovation and formula. It's not the most innovative I've seen. This sunscreen is perfect for a small group of people - people with light skin tones and sensitive skin. It's also good for children and people who don't care about whitecast. This sunscreen may not be the best in sachet form for sale in 7/11, a convenience store for the mass market. If I were their team, I would have them on the shelves of drug stores. B- for overall value. Up next - Jula's Herb Melon Milk UV Essence SPF50 PA++++ Is Jula's Herb a skincare brand or a juice store? Their products have all the world's fruits in them. This hybrid sunscreen combines old and new generation filters. From what I see, these quality filters should provide full protection. Their protection values have only been tested in vitro. It has a lightweight gel texture. No whitecast and feels a little matte. From having a feel of its texture, I had a feeling this type of sunscreen would pill. And I was right! Pilling is one of the biggest challenges in developing a sunscreen formula. The same sunscreen can pill on someone's skin and not the other. But from what I've seen, matte sunscreens have a high risk of pilling. Our volunteer has dry skin. Upon application, her skin got a little oilier and stayed within that level. This sunscreen fits all skin types and tones, but you better watch out for pilling. What else does this sunscreen have? This brand is known for its fruit extracts. To me, they sound like cheap gimmicks. This sunscreen has Melon Fruit Extract, an ingredient I can't seem to find research support for. Melons, just like other fruits, have antioxidants in them. But they may not be the best choice for antioxidants in your skincare. But I do like its Avena Sativa Kernel (Oat) Extract. Not sure how much of the ingredient is in it though. B for formulation. B- for overall value. My concern is the pilling. Next Up - Smooto Hya C Sunscreen SPF50 PA+++ 30 grams? Is this a typo? 30 grams fits a bottle. This hybrid sunscreen only provides SPF50 and PA+++ protection. Because of its market price, they have to keep their costs low. This may not be the best sunscreen for outdoor activities. Its also only tested in vitro. This sunscreen becomes very watery upon contact with the skin. It reminds me of a different Cathy Doll sunscreen. It feels very lightweight, but I'm not sure how effective it is in creating a protective film on the skin. The packaging says its a tone up sunscreen. Our volunteer's skin looks brighter, and I think it does what it claims to do. Before applying, our volunteer's skin was leaning towards the dry side. Five minutes after application, her skin entered the "very dry" zone. Twenty minutes after application, her skin stayed on a very similar level. Because of its watery texture, I thought this sunscreen would have a moisturizing effect. Its oil control caught me by surprise. This sunscreen suits people with moderate and light skin tones and with very oily skin. It also claims to be a cooling sunscreen. I'm guessing it comes from menthol. I personally don't feel the cooling effect it claims to have. And I think that that's a good thing! Menthol is a common allergen, so it's best we leave it out of our skincare. It doesn't have any interesting active ingredient worth talking about. C for formulation. This sunscreen is a little confusing. It claims to be water resistant and cooling - all the traits you'd expect an outdoors sunscreen would have. But the filters and protection values aren't ones I'd expect in my outdoors sunscreen. The Product and Marketing Teams need to align directions. This sunscreen is very affordable for what it's worth. B for overall value. Merci Vitamin C UV Sunscreen SPF50+ PA+++ This is my first time reviewing this brand on camera. This hybrid sunscreen combines old and new generation filters. Oxybenzone surprised me because it has the highest risk of irritation out of the filters we see here. Oxybenzone also has the smallest molecular size so it penetrates your pores really well. The ingredient's safety is still debated by experts in the industry. Last year, the EU reduced the legal amount of oxybenzone allowed in skincare. The protection values were tested in vitro. The list says it has color ingredients that gives the sunscreen a blurring effect. I was worried about whitecast while our volunteer was massaging the sunscreen in. But after a while, it leaves a really nice finish. Thank you to Merci for not adding unnecessary orange scented fragrance into this Vitamin C sunscreen! Other brands take note! People have to stop associating Vitamin C with fragrance! The more the fragrance, the higher the risk of irritation. Our volunteer's skin was a little dry before application. Five minutes later, her skin stayed on a very similar level. Twenty minutes after application, her skin dried up a little from initial levels. This is an easy-to-use sunscreen for people of all skin types with light and moderate skin tones. This brand is known for its Vitamin C products. As you know, there are so many types of Vitamin C out there. Which ones are we dealing with? We have four Vitamin C derivatives - some are impressive, some are not. The inclusion of four different types makes this sunscreen a complete source of Vitamin C - I'll give them that! Watch this video for a full debrief of Vitamin C in skincare. A- for formulation. This is an interesting sunscreen. Affordable and easy to use. But I will deduct a few points for its inclusion of oxybenzone and in-vitro tests. B for overall value. Lastly, Srichand Sun Lotion Acne Care Sunscreen SPF50+ PA++++ This hybrid sunscreen has only been tested in-vitro. This is why Thai brands are lagging behind - we need to take testing seriously! This sunscreen is lightweight and is easy to spread. The finish doesn't feel oily but it doesn't feel dry either. I love its texture. There's no fragrance, but it smells like the classic Banana Boat sunscreen. I don't know about you guys, but this scent is very nostalgic to me. Our volunteer started off with dry skin, and the sunscreen made her skin a little oilier. This sunscreen suits all skin types and tones. It has gluconolactone and salicylic acid to support its "anti-acne" claims. These ingredients help exfoliate the skin. We don't know how much of these ingredients are in this sachet. But I don't think anyone is relying on sunscreen to treat acne either. It also has ceramides complex to strengthen the skin barrier. Buddieja Officinalis Flower Extract offers additional protection from blue light. And not the ones from your screens! Those are insignificant. A- for formulation. If I had to pick an emergency sunscreen, this would be at the top of my mind. A for overall value. This is a summary of all the sunscreens we reviewed today. If you have a bigger budget, please consider buying bigger sized sunscreen. Sachets aren't the best material for the Earth. These are non-recyclable.
