this is an aquastar 48 it's a 2005 example and the interesting thing about these is they're made from the channel islands and they're made by a company that does a lot of commercial boats so aqua star build pilot boats they build customs boats they build hub master boats they build boats people who want to go to sea pretty much irrespective of conditions so they have a semi-displacement hull not a planing hull and what that means is they're designed to push through the big waves rather than bounce over the top of them they're not as fast but they are extremely seaworthy a lot of the lifeboats for example are some displacement boats for that reason it's an aft cabin configuration so you've got accommodation the full length of the boat and that's brilliant i'll show you that of course when we go inside just how much space that gives you and if we come right to the back you can see there's a passerail here that will swing out for stern ii boarding that's a life raft on there he's got his outboard fish tender and the tender itself is sloping up against the back of the boat that's not a bad idea actually because it keeps the length of the boat down which is what the birthing is based on and you just tilt it into the water when you want to use it that's quite nice now something you find on these which you won't find on something like a similar sized princess this is a 48-foot boat is the ability to step on the side on a princess or a sunset or any of those modern planing boats you've got to go on the bathing platform and up on this look at this such an easy boat to get on board of we'll go around to the bow first of all i think and then work our way back it's got the teak on this one all the way over which is a really nice finish a lot of good quality items like if you look at these hatches they're all stainless steel trimmed if you look at the window frames they're all stainless steel trimmed it's really nice job you've got these nice big thick bull walks around it again that's that sort of commercial boat feel to it again that little ship feel that's just access to a big deck locker for covers or fenders or whatever two anchor rollers on the front so if you want a second anchor on here then you can have it you've just got the one on here at the moment as you can see with the power winch just there but a really manageable boat very easy to walk around nice high rails on it and as i say that ability to step on the side when you're going to births where for example the back of the boat sticks out further than the berth as they are in some places it just makes it so easy to use decent handrails everywhere as well and if we come back here you'll see we step up now and now we're up on top of that half cabin and that gives brilliant duality of purpose because you've got this lovely copper area here and it's got the hard top on top so you've got some shelter and you've also got these covers which you can take off around the sides but there's a cabin underneath and i'll show you that in just a moment so we're heading through here sliding door and again because we're raised up here let's keep my shoes off we now step down into the accommodation we've got this lovely curved sweep of stairs going in and here we are in the main saloon area big windows around the place loads of light loads of visibility and a nice social area in here lots of seating about the place and it's got the polished cherry wood which of course is very popular in the early 2000s still looks very nice and again you can see those sort of commercial boat routes a little bit and things like this handrail up in the ceiling so when the weather's rough and you're going out anyway you can move around the boat and you've got something to hang on to something you don't often see in a lot of planing sports cruisers big chunky helm seat here ship's wheel and the engine controls engine instrumentation it's got two multi-function displays one here one here so you can choose you maybe have charts on one and radar on the other for example and another thing this boat's been fitted with is fin stabilizers really good stabilization system and again if you're out in rough weather that's really helpful it helps keep the boat on a really even keel very nice system indeed they're not cheap but they are excellent there we go axe star guernsey that's where these are built so that's the saloon area but if we head on forward we will find another really nice area tucked away down here in the form of this dinette now you can turn this into a sleeping area if you want it's quite good because sometimes on boats this size i'll have that as a third cabin with a third cabin you can only sleep in with a dinette you can use it for eating but you can also drop a table down and sleep there as well so it's dual purpose you'll see there's a curtain here that comes across so you can have some privacy there it's brilliant because it's unusual perhaps for people to go out with more than perhaps two couples on board so the third cabin often is a bit wasted and this means that it brings that area back into play there's a ship system up here and so this controls all of the systems on the boat which is rather nice it's a bit ahead of its time actually you wouldn't normally find this on a 2005 boat and that is the air conditioning systems up here so that's controlling the heating and air conditioning and then if we look on to the other side onto the port side really nice galley area loads of space i love the way this connects directly across it's a nice place to tuck yourself away make yourself something to eat chat to people eat here and you're sort of down you're not on show here it's weird down hidden sort of down into the lower areas of the boat i think that's great there's a fridge here this is storage same here all these are turn fellows so that uh you can see there that how the clip works they don't come flying able to see and you can push them shut completely if you want to you can leave them like that and just open them at will cooking here is all electric you can see there's the cooker and the hob up above it more storage up this end and more storage up around in places like this so plates in there for example now ahead of here we have got a guest cabin that's up here in the bow and what they've done with this in order to give more space here they push this bulkhead forward and then they've put the beds that go across each other which is really helpful because it means you get a lot more space back at this section of the boat so you've got a bed here and then another one that goes across here this is actually quite a decent size i don't know this might be even almost a double but certainly a very generous single as use that one so very comfortable and of course the other thing that this configuration does is give a load more storage down in places like this so it's quite a practical setup really you've got windows you've got a hatch overhead of course more storage along in places like this little reading lights in here as well and you've also got ensuite access into the heads now this is a day heads as well you can see there's another door for it just there but that is a shower vestly and then you've got toilet in here as well so quite a nice sized compartment really but that as i say is the guest area you've got another sleeping area here if you want it but because it's an half cabin boat the owner gets his or their own area back aft and this is the real benefit as i say you've got the steps that go up to the aft deck and that creates this space take a look at this how nice is that we've got to remember this is a sub 50 foot boat she's 48 foot long and yet we've got a cabin that's really more of a bedroom isn't it lovely size again that beautiful woodwork everywhere and in here a ton of storage this is the sort of boat that people would go away on i mean it's sort of the is bought by people who are quite serious about their boating and so it might be somebody who decides they're going to spend a month on the boat and so all this storage and all this space is really helpful more storage down places like this oh no that's some neat packing isn't it well done mr owner i won't open them all because obviously the boat's still in use but you get the idea the dressing area over here but what a fabulous cabin that is and you've got decent windows in here as well if we open these you can see what tenders there at the moment of course but you have got a view out through here and through the side so plenty of light into here and then if we come across onto this side as you'd expect it's got its own ensuite and that lives in here so toilet is there sink and the shower in here like so and in fact there is a screen that comes across there which is nice because it means you can keep all of this area dry which works well but what a brilliant cabin that is isn't it let's come over here i think it's worth looking at this from all angles so that is that i think while we're here we're gonna take a look at the engines because the engines live under the saloon floor there are various sections this lean four you can lift up to get to but just to have a quick look and to show you them there's a really easy access in through here there we go now these are a pair of tamd 75 engines by warwick penta at 480 horsepower each so you've got nearly a thousand horsepower in this and top speed on this it's probably going to be 20 knots plus that sort of league it's not a planing boat it's not as fast as a planing boat tends to be what it is is very seaworthy so you set the speed on this at sort of i don't know 15 knots but the point of it is that when it gets rough you still do 15 knots it just powers through pretty much anything as i say pilot boats that kind of thing they all use this sort of configuration these sorts of engines in this sort of performance the straight shaft drive in fact you can see the shafts back here so the gearbox is on the back of the engine and the shaft runs out through and under the boat with a propeller on the end so very simple very straightforward and these are a nice engine actually they're a large capacity turbo diesel i think they're a straight six from memory pretty tidy isn't it this boat is a 2005 it is 16 years old that doesn't look bad at all does it and you can see there are traps in the ceiling so this is great just have a quick look but if you're doing servicing you get all the traps up and you get above the engines and you can get to everything properly very nice indeed very nice now there's one thing i haven't yet shown you and that is the fly bridge so we will head back outside for that lovely i do like this little staircase here the way this curls rounding that's great nice feature now again because you've got this raised aft deck another bonus of this is that it's not a huge climate for the fly bridge all you've got is these three steps and you're on it so up like this and there we go that's that hard top out across that copper area and up here you've got a bimini so you've got plenty of shade here if you want it there's seating in here you actually feel nice and enclosed in here it's quite deep so you feel very safe you don't feel like you're on the boat you still feel like you're in it and then here double helm seat is a backrest that will flip the other way so that you can face backwards of using this as a social area when you're at anchor or in the harbour and this is your home station bow and stern thruster on this one that makes life nice and easy throttle controls over there another multi-function display and of course you steer from here and this is your view and it makes this very manageable because when you're up here you've got such a good view out down the side of the boat you can see exactly what you're doing with it very nice indeed this all the boat is inevitably owner-operated you won't get one of these with a crew on and so the fact that it's easy to manage is very important awesome let's head back down inside and we'll finish up in there you can see how these two areas connect so nicely normally with a flabbridge bait because the cockpit is so much lower you know you couldn't stand in the cockpit and easily talk perhaps to the helmsman for example whereas here you can it's great when you're crewing because as you're coming in it's also means that the helmsman can be down here down the steps and down helping with the lines very easily so that is about it the only thing i didn't mention in fact is i believe that that seat there will fold back the other way to give forward-facing seating as well i think that's what that stainless steel plate on the side of it is i'm not too sure how that works so i won't try and do it instead i'll finish up here at the helm and say many thanks to berthon they organized this tour they've got this boat for sale so i'll put a link to those guys in the description and huge thanks as ever to you guys for watching i hope you've liked that one i think it's a fascinating boat and as i say a really serious boat as well proper heavy weather stuff we'll catch you on another one of these very soon take care bye
